Import Formats - Document Properties List
Hi, I'm looking for a complete list of what gets imported when doing a File - Import - Formats - Document Properties. I'm running FM8 Windows. I looked at the FM8 User Guide, but I don't believe the list provided on page 417 is complete. For example, information set under File - File Info gets imported, but is not listed in the User Guide. Hi, Jeff: I haven't tested this, but you might try it and let us know: * Create an empty MIF file (see the MIF Reference PDF in the FrameMaker directory). * Create a new blank FM file. * Open the MIF file in FM. * Import formats from the FM file - perhaps one at a time, or all at once. ***See note below * Save the receiving file to a new name as MIF. * Open the MIF file in a text editor, or in FM by holding Ctrl while choosing Open, then choose Text. * Examine the MIF to see what properties have been imported. *** You can save the MIF files of individual-property imports with identifying names, and compare them with File Utilities Compare Documents for some clues about exactly what comes in with each type of imported property. Get ImportFormatsSpecial from Carmen Publishing. It's a low-cost replacement for the standard Import Formats window that gives you complete control over everything that can be imported. I have been using Rick's ImportFormatsSpecial plugin for a couple of years now, and my clients liked it so much they bought it, too. It has really helped us be more efficient and accurate in this area of FM...can't say enough good things about it!!! Rene L. Rick, Does your ImportsFormatsSpecial have an option to clean the existing properties, like CleanImport does? Without that, you just keep adding properties instead of cleaning up which in many cases may be what you want, but I usually prefer to start with empty catalogs.
