Paste Lithuanian doc file into FrameMaker document
Hello Framers Thanks to all who gave their input to solve this problem. I finally found a "workaround". I actually do not know, which element did the trick, but the below procedure worked for me, nevertheless: > - Download WGL Assistant and tick all Baltic fonts - Save Word file in rtf-format - Change all fonts to Arial Unicode MS - Highlight all text in rtf-file and copy - Paste text in NEW FrameMaker document with Insert Special command - as Rich Text Format - Change fonts in FrameMaker document til Baltic fonts - Copy to English FrameMaker document where text is to be replace by Baltic text. - Change fonts in this FrameMaker document to Baltic fonts. > I know that this may seem slightly troublesome, and I shall welcome any suggestions on how to simplfy. Hello Lisbeth, unfortunately there is no 'simple' solution for this, unless you can work on a Lithuanian Wondows system. We have been struggling with this, same for other CE and EE languages.Problem is, FrameMakert does not support Unicode and it does not automatically take the correct character set from the Open Type fonts (Arial, Times New Roman). Work around is to tweak the register and add some 'fonts' using the FontSubstitutes key. See below for the current key contents, this works for me. Notice the notation of the 'codepage' or set number after the font names. Basically it says: basic set of font named Arial CE uses set 238 from Arial (Open Type font). Now when you choose Arial CE from the FrameMaker font menu, it should display correct in FrameMaker. Same for Arial Baltic with Lithuanian text. The 0 (zero) in the left part seems to be essential. Paste Lithuanian doc file into FrameMaker document
Hello all experts, I have trouble pasting Lithuanian doc-text into a FM document. The present procedure is as follows: 1. I receive a Lithuanian doc-file, the font being shown in Word as Times Roman 2. I save file in rtf-format 3. I change font to Arial Unicode MS 4. I copy the text in Word and use the "paste special" option in the English version of the text in FM (as rich text format or text). 5. I change fonts to Arial Baltic / Times New Roman Baltic which ever appropriate. Some time it works, but more often than not I lose the special Lithuanian characters which are replaced by question marks in FM. Could any of you suggest a simple solution to this? What I should like to avoid is to import the entire Lithuanian file, having to reformat it again. For your information, I work in an English version of FrameMaker 7.0p492 on a Danish version of Windows XP. Many thanks Lisbeth Nielsen
