RE: RE: Epic Arbortext to Adobe FrameMaker

2010-01-07 Thread Matt Sullivan
Yes, the one-way route is easier, as you won't have to hang on to any
AT-specific processing commands and your FM read/write rules may be fewer in
number.

To clarify Diane's situation, there is more there than just AT and FM
compatibility. A few of the processes she has to use are for institutional
reasons and are not required aspects of AT and FM compatibility.

Thanks to all of you on this.

My concern is the AT-to-FM route. It's a one-way trip, not a roundtrip. So
maybe the journey won't be as difficultThe manufacturer provides us with
their documentation via AT and we do "that thing we do" without having to
respect a round trip back to AT...

Pressing on

Thanks again

RE: Epic Arbortext to Adobe FrameMaker

2010-01-06 Thread Diane Gaskill
Hi Matt,

Happy New Year.

We transfer files from FM to AT and back to FM via XML. The process
requires a common DTD, schema, and EDD, as well as FM and AT templates that
use the same XML elements and the same version of DocBook. I expect that
you can do it with DITA too. The FM book is validated in FM8, saved as XML,
and then validated in Oxygen with a tool called Schematron. I'm not sure how
the XML is generated from from AT, but I believe the process is almost the
same. Note that this processis not as simple as it sounds. It took several
months to get it working. You also have to coordinate filenames, directory
structures, graphics formats, etc., so that the files open corectly on both
ends.

Good afternoon Fellow Framers

First, my setup: WXP Pro 2002 SP2, FrameMaker 8 and 9 (I have both)...

My aircraft manufacturer composes material/documentation in Epic
Arbortext.

I compose my material/documentation in Adobe FrameMaker.

to no avail.

RE: Epic Arbortext to Adobe FrameMaker

2010-01-06 Thread Matt Sullivan
Hi Eduardo,

No plugin or procedure needed, but you need to set up any version of
structured FrameMaker to understand and interpret your (XML?) info coming
from ArborText or any other XML editor. (unless you want to edit in a
standard text editor like Notepad...)

In FrameMaker, you will want to create a structured application to point to
the DTD and other files needed to process the XML and format as desired,
since your DTD will not address formatting.

As with AT, setting up these details is not a simple 5-minute process; since
you probably won't be doing this with regularity, you may want to leverage
company resources who understand the process, or engage someone familiar
with it to speed up development time.

Subject: Epic Arbortext to Adobe FrameMaker
Importance: High

Good afternoon Fellow Framers

First, my setup: WXP Pro 2002 SP2, FrameMaker 8 and 9 (I have both)...

My aircraft manufacturer composes material/documentation in Epic Arbortext.

I compose my material/documentation in Adobe FrameMaker.

Is there a plug in or procedure for converting Epic Arbortext documentation
to Adobe Framemaker. The manufacturer provided me with a DTD and I've tried
creating an EDD, then opening the .SGM file using the newly formed EDD, but
to no avail.

...just looking for a solution somewhere out here.

All the best to all of you.

Eduardo
