I highly recommended using Sequential fields for numbering in Word. Read
the one page in Word's help on Sequential fields. Then use the Tech-Tav
macros (free) to quickly insert them.

Also, in Word, you can lock documents to force users to use only the
formatting you specifiy in a document.

I for one would appreciate understanding the 'proper' way to handle
numbering in Word. For me, it would help to fix garbaged numbers in
document I receive to convert to SGML - numbering is an issue because if
it's wrong, the structure requires a lot of manual correction.

Hi all:

Someone, I think named Albert, asked for the Autonumbering Workshop
I've been sending to people. The email has disappeared.

So if you asked for the workshop and haven't received it, let me know.

Thanks so much to everyone for their very nice comments about the workshop.

Re: MS Word Numbering (was RE: FrameMaker uses)

2008-05-13 Thread Deirdre Reagan
Hi:

I've had a number people ask for the workshop, and I've sent it on.
The workshop is for formatting Headings 1 through 9.

I will be writing up the directions for formatting other levels, such
as 1., (1), a., (a), etc.

The concepts are exactly the same, so if you get the Heading 1 - 9
logic, you can create the other levels. They just involve creating a
new style for each new level, which is accomplished by right clicking
New Style in the upper box of the Styles and Formatting dialog box,
and naming the new style whatever you want.

I tend to use Style1, Style2, etc.

But as I said, I'll write up that workshop as well and send it on to
anyone interested.
