Hi Hedley,

Nice to hear from you!
Yes. You can buy a regular personal licence
and install it on your own PC.
Or you can subscribe and get all upgrades (which I prefer).

Best regards

I've been away for a very long time. Is it possible to download FM with a
licence and install it on your own computer? Or is only available by
(crippling) monthly subscription?

Re: [Framers] Installable FrameMaker

2019-06-04 Thread Lin Sims
While I tend to prefer the perpetual license model myself, the subscription
actually works out to a little over 50% of the full license over an
18-month period ($539.82‬ versus $999), which is the now established
timespan between releases. If you want to keep upgrading each time a new
release comes out, it's actually cheaper.

Whichever license you buy, you always have to download and install it.
You can buy a one-year license for $360 (which you can pay up front or
in monthly installments of $30) or a permanent license for $1000.

Re: [Framers] Installable FrameMaker

2019-06-14 Thread Lin Sims
Adobe no longer supports perpetual licenses for the applications in the
Creative Cloud suite, but FrameMaker is not part of that suite; it is in
the Technical Communications Suite. I have heard no rumors or information
that perpetual licenses are being discontinued for that, but I am checking
to confirm.

Also, in case anyone was worrying, Adobe is NOT discontinuing FrameMaker.
They are currently working on the 4th update to FM2019 and they are
starting development for the next major release. Amitoj is promising "some
great new features".

I don't speak legalese or corporate-ese, so I'm not sure what this means.
I'm asking techc...@adobe.com for clarification, since I, personally, own
TCS as an individual on a perpetual license and if it's being moved to
subscription only I may want to update to FM2019 now rather than wait for
whatever comes next ...

The products are always installable. A perpetual license just means
the software will work indefinitely.

As I read that, if you want a perpetual license for FM 2019, upgrade
before July 1.

I'm not sure about that. He specifically said:

*Customers will still be able to purchase perpetual licenses* of all the
above-mentioned products through Channel (Adobe authorized resellers) under
Transactional Licensing Program (TLP) and Cumulative Licensing Program
(CLP) *even after 1 July 2019*.

However, as I said, I don't speak corporate or legal, so I've asked for
clarification. All the programs he talks about are aimed at corporations
buying in bulk (which they seem to define as more than 9 licenses?); I have
no idea what this means for individuals or for companies that do not buy in
bulk.

So it sounds like it will remain possible for individuals to purchase a

It would be helpful if Amitoj/Adobe make it very clear on their web
site where individual perpetual users can purchase a new license. If
you look at
https://www.adobe.com/products/framemaker.html
there is no option for this. Only subscription, enterprise, and
education. The same situation exists for TechComm Suite.

In a follow-up response on the Forums, Amitoj says that this information is
available on the Buying Guides:

TCS:
https://www.adobe.com/products/technicalcommunicationsuite/buying-guide.html
FrameMaker: https://www.adobe.com/products/framemaker/buying-guide.html

I expect other buying guides are available for the other individual
components of TCS. He provided the TCS link, I googled "adobe buying guide
framemaker" to find the one for FrameMaker.

Options are available to buy perpetual licenses or subscriptions, on either
an individual or enterprise level basis. I hope this helps.

A correction from Amitoj: The Gold Support program is also being
discontinued as of July 1, 2019.

So, according to Amitoj, the following programs are being discontinued:

Gold Support
ASA
M&S

Does that mean individual perpetual licenses will still be available
but only with limited support?

I don't know what ASA and M&S are.

Re: [Framers] Installable FrameMaker

2019-06-24 Thread Lin Sims
I believe it means that perpetual licenses are still available to
individuals and businesses, but people buying the various support programs
will need to check with Adobe about support options going forward as their
support contracts expire.

I would assume that individuals will have the same support they've always
had.
