Another approach is to use Frame Below and Frame Above for the paragraph
tag(s) used in the second column, referencing a frame defined in the
reference page with the desired rule.

Other than setting the Frame Above/Below properties for the Note paragraph
(eg if you would like to have multiple note paragraphs), it is also
possible to set up the table so that it has empty heading and/or footing
rows with a custom paragraph (assuming that the note is not allowed to
split between pages).

Upon updating the table format, the paragraphs tags being used (in the
first heading, footing and body row) will be stored as part of the table
format, and will be repeated in new tables you insert.

Table formatting

2007-07-09 Thread Bodvar Bjorgvinsson
I guess you are using the first cell for graphics, am I right?

I have had some luck with using a sidehead paragraph tag for this
purpose with font size and line space set to a minimum and the space
below to a minus equaling the line size. The paragraph will call a
certain graphic in the reference pages. You can also set the next
paragraph format to the note paragraph tag you want. Then you can have
the note para tag with all the settings needed: line above, line
below, NOTE as "numbering", etc.

I find this way easier to use than the table. Especially when you want
different border formatting for each cell.

On a reference page, create a text frame and insert an
empty anchor paragraph at the top. Then, create the
customized table below the anchor paragraph. If the
first column contains the word "Note" (or a note
icon), put that in the first column. Once all that is
done, you simply copy the table (including the anchor
paragraph), and paste it anywhere it's needed within
the document.

I'd like to create a table format for a note, with one row and two columns.
I want a line above and below the second column. I've only managed to do
this using custom ruling and shading, which I don't want to use because
custom ruling can't be stored as part of the table format.

Any ideas?

Consider buying the Auto-Text plugin from www.SiliconPrairieSoftware.com.
It's very cheap and highly useful. It will let you create an empty table in
the format you want, and import a copy with a couple of keystrokes, whenever
needed. It's great for inserting regularly-used text and graphics, too.
Auto-Text has been a huge time-saver for me.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but Rick Quatro ran up a
FrameScript for me that does something similar, so that's one route.
Run the script once for all Tables of that type and you're done.
