hi pip,

that's great, thankyou. i'll need to use one first thing tuesday morning,

i'd be really grateful for your help. i'm going to email l'ab and etna and see
if we can make a friendly agreement, one thing i'm unsure of though (because of
my terrible french!) is where they're both based in the city. i'd like to use
somewhere as close to the communist party headquarters as possible, which i

travel anywhere if i have to! which of the two do you think would be best,
bearing that in mind?

thanks again,

films in particular for me to look into? I feel like I've seen this a
lot of war films, especially ones based on WWII, but I'm having
trouble thinking of specific titles. Any help is appreciated

I put this question to a bunch of my colleagues and friends and will
undoubtedly have a nice long answer for you shortly.
Off the top of my head, though, I came up with a few:

Battleground
God Is My Co-Pilot
Objective Burma
Forty Seconds Over Tokyo

You should also check Jeanine Basinger's book The WWII Combat Film and
Thomas Doherty's Projections of War, both very smart books that touch on
the subject.

2012-02-20 Thread Chris Kennedy

From: Fred Camper f...@fredcamper.com
Subject:
Lately I am part time and
junior at a strongly tuition-driven
 school in which avant-garde film
is certainly not the focus. So I don't show a
lot of that. But I have
found that if you intelligently and passionately make
 the case to students
for, for example, showing film on film, many are
 receptive. I use some of
my prints, borrow some from friends, and use the
 prints in the school's
library that few faculty there use today.

I would point out that none of those options directly help Canyon. One of
the revenue losses that distributors are suffering is related to the schools
that do have an archive. Why would they rent a Brakhage film from Canyon
when they bought one ten years ago and can use the library version? Very few
universities are now buying prints, so distributors are primarily a rental
only source.

Another disturbing thing from the article:
..it has sent letters appealing for funds to its 325 filmmaker members and
to 1,500 renters. The letter-raising campaign has raised about $500 so far,
Mr. Angerame said.

I don't know how long that campaign has been running, but I $500 is pretty
disgruntling.

As I recall, there's an interesting although brief sequence of
soldiers participating in a post-battle mass in Apocalypse Now. I
believe it happens after one of the two battles featuring Robert
Duvall's character.

I remember it being pretty loaded visually, with a lamb (or maybe a
calf? ) being hoisted into the air by a helicopter in the background.

Might be worth a look...

I think the movie BATAAN has a scene with Robert Walker praying right before
he's killed...but I can't remember if he's actually praying or if it's just a
prayer-like moment. Also SEVENTH HEAVEN with Jimmy Stewart right before he
loses his sight.

Hi folks,

I'll be doing video improvisations Friday night at 119 Gallery in

local artists perform. On Fri and Sat evenings there are 10 half-hour
