Re: [Frameworks] Dizziness and Disorientation

2013-04-01 Thread Peter Mudie
Geez, Mike Snow's Back and Forth has nothing to do with 'dizziness' or
'disorientation'. There is a room, four windows, a door and some people doing
things – the camera position only moves once (just after the beginning). In
terms of phenomena it is remarkably 'static'. Ask yourself, is Wavelength
'about' 'horizontal vertigo'? Yikes.

If you're in Wien then check out Kurt's material with Günter Brus and Otto's
films.

Peter

Michael Snow's Back and Forth would be the best example I can think of off the
top of my head.

There are wonderful scenes of (LSD-induced) disorientation in Tony Gault's "Not

found footage film that I hope will stay on people's radar screens.

Hi laura,

I don't know if this is an easier option for you but what I have done for many
a workshop is taken junk 16mm footage and bleached it with standard chlorox or
similar. We've done thousands of feet at a time in our bathtub. Just fill the
tub with water, pour a cup or two of bleach in, and let tge film soak until the
emulsion comes off. Stir if necessary. Ensure adequate ventilation and or wear
a respirator!

Hope this helps,

[Frameworks] Looking for 16mm projector / Direct Current

2013-04-01 Thread vassily bourikas
Dear All,

Does anyone one out there (Europe would be easier) have one 300 series
projector by Bell and Howell? Following Scott Dorsey's helpful reply/advice
(below) I found that models include the Filmosound 302 and the Filmosound
Specialist 384,385, 398 and 399.
If you have one of these that works or could work and want to sell it please
contact me off list.

Or if you have another model that runs on DIRECT CURRENT (DC). It concerns a
16mm projector, not super 8.

To avoid misunderstandings, I repeat: I am already using an inverter, in order
to change the already existing Alternate Current to DC. I must use a projector
that runs on DC for critical safety reasons.

Thanks
VB

Some of the 300-series Bell and Howell projectors are designed for AC/DC
use.  Also some of the Ampro projectors were.  You can tell because they
employ universal motors with electromechanical governor arrangements instead
of modern AC synchronous motors.

Note that SOME of the 300-series projectors used power transformers for the
tube electronics, but most of them were hot chassis and just ran directly
off the power line.

This was a big deal in the 1940s when these were made, since a lot of these
were used by the military in places that may have had DC or 50 Hz mains.
However, since we live in an era where cheap inverters are available, there
is really no reason not to just use one today and make solid AC from your
DC line.

[Frameworks] Advice please: 16mm projector on Direct Current

2013-04-01 Thread vassily bourikas
Hello,

Has any of you had experience with running a projector on direct current?
Even if you heard of anyone who modified a projector to run on dirct current
(from battery, solar or wind cells, dynamos or any type of electric machine)
please let me know. I will use a regular (internal combustion) engine generator
that produces alternate (AC) but I must use an inverter to change it to DC for
certain safety reasons. And I am not sure if a 16mm projector can run on Direct
Current.

If it is possible and any of you by any chance have such a modified projector
PLEASE get in touch off list.
Thanks
