Re: [Frameworks] Looking for Moviescop in Berlin or in Austria

2013-09-17 Thread Diana Arce
HI Ruth,

Film coop Wien is checking to see if they have a viewer, but they are not sure.
would you have one I could possible borrow? there is another filmmaker in
Vienna who will be coming to the same event as me, she has so kindly offered to
pick it up. Let me know if this is a possibility. she will be leaving Wien
tomorrow.

Thanks again,
Diana

Just confirmed with Jean Fee, Director of Operations at Alpha Cine Labs in
Seattle that as of September 27, 2013 they will be shutting down all film
processing. September 25th is the last day to get it in before the shut down. I
have one last roll of pre-paid 16mm that I'll be shooting over the weekend.
It is a sad day indeed for such a venerable lab as Alpha Cine.

What? They just did a timed answer print for me a couple months ago!

They have a best-light for me in their queue right now, I was told it
would take an extra week or two because their timer wasn't working full
time anymore. But they still have a timer on staff, at least this week!

Colorlab will also do beautiful answer prints as well. Certainly some of
the best printing work ever, but also a good bit more expensive than Alpha.

I have been saving my last roll of Plus-X for something special and it
looks like this is it. I will be shooting it this weekend since it has
prepaid processing from alpha. Seems I have been doing a lot of "last
rolls" recently.

[Frameworks] Call for Entries: Looking In/Looking Out - Synthetic Zero/Emily Roberts-Negron show

2013-09-17 Thread Mitsu Hadeishi
The next Synthetic Zero show at BronxArtSpace, "Looking In/Looking Out" will be
co-curated by Emily Roberts-Negron and Mitsu Hadeishi. We are looking for
experimental video and film, visual art, performance, music, readings, dance,
or other work for the show. The theme of the show is described below; please
feel free to submit any and all work related to the theme closely or remotely.
The submission deadline is October 10.

Looking in: I look at you, but I see a mixture of me and you, a facade of our
reflections. When we look in on someone or some thing, we imagine what we see
doesn't notice our gaze, yet the act of looking forever changes what we see as
well as ourselves. Can we ever really be separate from what we see? Can we ever
really touch what we see?

Looking out: A romantic gesture beyond ourselves. We look out at what appears
to be a/the/our world, surrounding us in sequence. But its expanse is
indefinite. How far can we see before the lines begin to blur?

Can we see without looking?

Please email us at eve...@syntheticzero.com with information about your
submission; links, images, artist statement. If you would like to submit video,
please do NOT send DVDs --- send links to videos on Vimeo, YouTube, or download
links for video files.

Please call 718 772-4961

DIRECTIONS:

The art space is at 305 E. 140th St., #1A, Bronx NY 10454.

We're about 20 minutes from Union Square. From Manhattan, 4-5 train to 125th,
transfer to 6, one stop to 3rd Ave/138th St, it's 2 blocks from there. Note
there are two exits at 3rd Ave/138th, one at Alexander Ave and one at 3rd Ave.
Ring 3A or 1B if 1A does not answer.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO FRIENDS! Thanks.

Hi,

I just did some further research and it looks like the Fomakit bleach is pretty
strong and made to remove the annihilation layer found on films like Fomapan
and ORWO - this is probably where the whole thing went to the wayside!

Thanks again everyone for all of your help!

Re: [Frameworks] Self Developing Mess

it's gotta be the bleach. I would recommend maybe mixing your bleach a less
strong or have the chemicals in the bleach for less time. Perhaps do a short
test or two. I've seen Tri-x that was stored in the worst conditions, after
being shot even, for like 30 years come out looking like it was brand new. I
don't think the temperature would have anything to do with this problem. Best
luck.

Hi Scott,

All the chemicals were at 20 Celsius, but I wasn't completely careful on the
rinses. If anything the water may have been a bit cooler. Could this have been
the problem?

It was 7278 from Kodak. Now that it is drying it looks like the emulsion looks
like it's sticking, but while it was wet, it was coming off all over and we
could barely handle the film to get it hung. One false slip of a finger and the
frame was on my hand instead of on the base.
