Re: [Frameworks] 16mm film Guillotine Splicer
sorry for grammatical errors, para beginning with Whenshould read: hold the roll of tape after it is placed onto the film, gently push back the tape so it is straight and tight. Then lower the splicing unit. Last paragraph last word of the first sentence should read "plate" and not place Dominic On Mon, Aug 10, 2015 at 12:25 PM, Dominic Angerame < dominic.anger...@gmail.com> wrote: > I have had my guillotine splicer for more than 35 years and NEVER had to > sharpen the blade. Re: [Frameworks] 16mm film Guillotine Splicer
I have had my guillotine splicer for more than 35 years and NEVER had to sharpen the blade. The reason you may be getting sloppy splices is that the blades are not alligned correctly. When making a splice hold the roll of tape after to placed it on the film and push down on the splicer. The splicer should clean and sharp. I was taught that if you sharpen the blade is may cause damage to the Guillotine. Like I said after 35 years of using mine I never had to sharpen the blades. Try cleaning all the guk out of the perorations on the blade unit and on the place. Rubbing alcohol works fine for this. After all is cleaned spray a small amount of trusty old WD40 on the blades, perf puncher and bed of the spicer. Wipe away after spraying the machine should operate as new. No oil or substance from the WD40 gets on the film is wiped clean after spaying. Hope this helps. On Mon, Aug 10, 2015 at 11:21 AM, Isaac Brooks wrote: > Dwight Cody used to service them. There used to be a place up north of Boston that would do a "tune up" on splicers. Don't know if they are still in business. Probably not cheap either. Re: [Frameworks] 16mm film Guillotine Splicer
Cardinal Sound and Motion Picture in Elkridge, MD has parts for the Catozzi splicers on the shelf and can work on them. You can sharpen the blade yourself with a stone if you want, though. It will stay lined up when put back into position. --scott ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
