[Frameworks] The Situated Cinema Project; in camera

2015-09-02 Thread Melanie Wilmink
*The Situated Cinema Project; in-camera* is a portable micro-cinema
commissioned by Toronto-based Pleasure Dome media arts exhibition
collective to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Created by Halifax-based
filmmaker Solomon Nagler with architects Thomas Evans and Jonathan
Mandeville of passage studio, the structure features pilgrimage (16mm, 4
min. looped, 2015) — an experimental film created by Nagler and his
artistic collaborator Alexandre Larose.

>From September 10 — 20, the Situated Cinema will travel to three Toronto
locations, hosted by the Toronto International Film Festival®, 8-11 Gallery
and Artscape Youngplace. As it travels, the architectural structure of the
cinema will intervene in the city, creating unexpected situations where
chance encounters and dislocated spaces forge new relationships between the
spectatorial body and the urban landscape. Inseparable from its context,
the Situated Cinema Project;in-camera explores intersections of film and
architecture through a rejection of conventional cinematic
representation, reinventing the cinema space as temporary and mobile.

Dates & Locations:

September 10-13: The Toronto International Film Festival’s Festival Street
- Intersection of King Street West & Peter St. (TIFF Festival Street hours
of operation)

September 14-16: 8-11 Gallery - 233 Spadina Ave (10am-10pm)

September 17-20: Artscape Youngplace - 180 Shaw St. (10am-10pm)

Artist talk: Sat Sept 12 @ 7:30pm - Artscape Youngplace
Reception: Thurs Sept 17 @ 6-10pm - Artscape Youngplace

Many thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts for their assistance for
this project through a Media Arts Initiatives Grant, and to our programming
partners, The Toronto International Film Festival, 8-11 Gallery and

Pleasure Dome is made possible through the ongoing support of:The Canada
Council for the Arts, The Ontario Arts Council and the City of Toronto

[Frameworks] Friday, Sept. 4--NO NEW YORK show at Microscope Gallery

2015-09-02 Thread Beebe, Roger W.
All,

As always, I’ve missed the This Week deadline, but I wanted to let those if you
in the New York area know that on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Microscope Gallery
(1329 Willoughby Ave., Brooklyn, NY) I’ll be presenting a program that I’m
calling (perversely?) NO NEW YORK. The show is focused on work made outside of
the traditional centers of experimental film (NYC, SF, LA, Chicago) and draws
on the films screened during my 10 years running FLEXfest (www.flexfest.org).
Much more info on the show is on Microscope’s website:

http://www.microscopegallery.com/?page_id=16593

Hope to see some of you there.

[Frameworks] looking for a room or sublet in Brooklyn this November

2015-09-02 Thread Amanda Christie
Hello all!

I'm coming to Brooklyn for the month of November, and am looking for either a
room to rent or an apartment to sublet.
In addition to paying rent, I'm also happy to take care of cats, dogs, or
plants should you, or anyone you know be out of town and looking for someone to
love their pets or plants.

Also, while in town it would be great to meet any of you on this list who are
in the vicinity... a nice chance to put real life faces with names!

Drop me a line if you have any leads on rooms to rent or apartments to sublet
for the month of November.

Thanks!

festival. If your film is selected for exhibition, you will be asked to
ship A FILM PRINT to the CSIF approximately one month before the Festival.
The $100 Film Festival will make every attempt to avoid any damage to your

your film will be shipped back to you, pre-paid (with the exception of
filmmakers in Calgary whose films will be available for pick-up).

SUBMISSIONS
Submit your film or film-based installation documentation via, Vimeo or
Youtube link, or Dropbox download along with the completed submission form (
http://www.100dollarfilmfestival.org/assets/PDF/2016100CallTrilingual.pdf)

FOR MORE INFORMATION
Visit the $100FF website at www.100dollarfilmfestival.org
or email CSIF at festi...@csif.org

Calgary's $100 Film Festival is one of only a few festivals worldwide that
exhibits film exclusively on Super 8 and 16mm. When the $100 Film Festival
was born in 1992, it showcased eight short films on Super 8. The name
sprung from the challenge to shoot a short film on four roll of Super 8 –
which tallied to the cost of $100. In following years, the festival dropped
the budgetary limit and allowed 16 mm film, which shifted the focus from
low budget to quality small-format films. The festival is now an
international celebration of creative story telling on celluloid.
