I second DuAll for repair/maintenance and parts. A bit pricy though...

Now that Swiss-American is no longer in business, I have been sending stuff
to DuAll and they have done good work.

Has anyone used Chambless recently? Jesse must be getting on in years but
he used to have some of the best Bolex techs.

Thanks, Pablo. I’m eager to see this one. I wonder if Sarah Christman's

Though it's not exactly a desktop doc, I always thought Herman
Asselberghs *Dear

2017-10-26 Thread Ruth Hayes
Greetings all,

If you know of technicians qualified to maintain and repair Bolex 16mm cameras,
would you please respond with that info? We have about a dozen of these
beauties here at Evergreen and we need help keeping them in service. It’s a
critical part of our media curriculum.

Thank you!

[Frameworks] Studio Share in Greenpoint Brklyn.

2017-10-26 Thread Thomas Dexter
Hello ~

I am looking for a third person to share a multi-use studio space in North
Greenpoint Brooklyn currently shared by yours truly (working with analog
cinema, sound, objects, digital media), a projectionist / performer, a
painter, an industrial designer, and another filmmaker with a band
(apologies if I have mis-categorized anyone...) We are seldom all there at
the same time.
It's a unique space totaling 1000 square feet - your share would be a
configurable third of an open 500 square foot workspace with a great deal
of built-in storage.

Rent is approximately 330.00 / month

551 Stewart Avenue between Meeker and Thomas

North Greenpoint under the Kosciusko Sky Way

15 minute walk from the 'G' train – Norman Avenue stop
The right person would have to be comfortable with occasional high volume
rehearsal and a raw industrial space in an industrial corner of town.
Musician, sound artist, filmmaker ideal..

Thanks - inquires can be directed here:

Re: [Frameworks] sprockets

2017-10-26 Thread Pip Chodorov

Hans Richter used the white square in Rythmus 21 (1921-1924).

And Len Lye used sprocket actual holes in Trade Tattoo (1936). At
the end of Trade Tattoo a white envelope recedes into the distance
just like in Rhythmus 21 making reference both to Richter's film and
to the sprocket holes.

[Frameworks] sprockets

2017-10-26 Thread graemehogg

I'd like to tap the great collective mind/soul that is frameworks and ask
what people think are the earliest (not actually looking for 'firsts'
really) examples of perforations and sprocket holes deliberately within
the frame as image material.

I know Land (Landows) 1966 'Film in Which There Appear Edge '
and various German and UK artists like the Heins (Rohfilm 1968) and
LeGrice ('Little Dog...' 1967) and a few other but I'm hoping to discover
some earlier works that made this sideways move into the margins.

Cheers
