Re: [Frameworks] Interviews on Digital Filmmaking and Impacts

2019-08-22 Thread Tarık Aktaş
Dear Rob,
Thanks a lot for your recommendations. I know most of the guys for sure.
But what I need for this course is a bit more mainstream even boring let's
say. The students are digital born and most of them have a terrible taste
when they first start school. Those boring guys are a bit icebreakers for
me. I cover experimental approaches in another course.
Thank you.

Best,

[Frameworks] Patrice Kirchhofer

2019-08-22 Thread Pip Chodorov
Very sad to relate the death of French experimental filmmaker Patrice
Kirchhofer.

I guess his films are not well known outside France but his work is strong and
beautiful and he was a very important presence in the scene here.

Here is a link to a portrait of him on Arte from 2006:

[Frameworks] Call for applications: Workspace Residency, Spring 2020

2019-08-22 Thread Ekrem Serdar
Hello,

I wanted to let you know that the application instructions for the Spring
2020 session of Squeaky Wheel’s Workspace Residency are now online.
Applications will be accepted between September 1-October 5, however, you
can find the application questions on our website if you would like to start
preparing your application now. The Spring 2020 residency will take place
from March 7–21, 2020.

SWs Workspace Residency is a short-term residency for artists & researchers
(curators, programmers, archivists, scholars, writers, etc) providing them with
time, facilities, and support for new or ongoing media art projects. The
Spring 2020 session will provide successful applicants with $950 in
stipends/artist fees, accommodations and $300 in travel funds for
applicants outside Buffalo, and access to the gear and facilities of SW and our
partners at Buffalo Game Space and The Foundry.

You can find more information, and a new Application Instructions and
Overview document here . You can
see bios and juries of previous residents here
.

If you had looked at our residency before, I would like to highlight some
updates:

1. Eligibility
The application language used to indicate that the residency was open to US
Citizens and valid work visa holders only. We have updated this language to
state that applicants must have a social security number in order to
receive payment by filling out a W9 form. All payments are made via
check. Full-time
students are not eligible to apply.Applicants from Buffalo who have
received a residency or solo exhibition at Squeaky Wheel must wait a period
of two years before applying (again) to the residency. Non-local applicants
(from outside of Buffalo) must wait a period of five years. You can see
more information regarding this in the FAQ on the website.

2. Accessibility
We have updated SWs accessibility information which you can see here
. As the residency can have several off-site
components, we encourage applicants to inquire with the curator regarding
any accessibility needs for the residency, including assistance with
filling out the application.

3. Workshop Proposal
We have updated the language of the workshop proposal question, with links
to our educational programs and workshops by previous residents, so
applicants have a better reference in writing their proposal. Please
remember that the workshop proposal is one of four criteria the jury rates
when considering proposals.

4. FAQ
We have updated the FAQ with additional information regarding bringing
children to the residency, film projects (Super 8mm, 16mm, etc.), how long
it takes to fill out the application, and more. You can find the FAQ on the
Workspace Residency page.

Feel free to share this application with your networks, and if you are
interested in applying, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any
questions, or would like feedback on your proposal ahead of the deadline.

Thank you,

Hi Tarik

I’m sure you know that there are a number of Turkish experimental filmmakers
working, I saw some films at Alchemy this year :

  Far better than
referencing boring US feature films.

Best Wishes

[Frameworks] Interviews on Digital Filmmaking and Impacts

2019-08-22 Thread Tarık Aktaş
Hi Everyone,

I'm writing a piece for my class on the impacts of digital technology (of
any sort) and covered the basics already. (We will also have the
documentary Side by Side in our library to watch when the course starts.) I
want to enrich the text with some views of well-known and acclaimed
directors, DOPS and editors. I've been already checking magazines and
websites for such interviews. The students are in the second year so
professionals like Inarritu, George Lucas, Spielberg, Scorcese, Soderberg,
Fincher, in brief the mainstream are more in their interest. (Also
professional that have worked with both film and digital.) If you have
encountered a source that involves such interviews I'll be more than glad
if you can also share it with me. A book, magazine or anything that I can
also reach online from Turkey will help.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,
Tarik
