Re: [Frameworks] Apexart On the sensations of Tone-last weekend

2015-03-06 Thread Chris Lynn
Dear Frameworks,
For those who live in NY City,
I would recommend visiting the exhibit Footnotes: On the sensation of Tone at
the Apexart Gallery.
This is the final weekend and it is a really special show on sound art.
Here is something from the NY Times-
http://www.nytimes.com/events/art/galleries-other/foot-notes-on-the-sensations-of-tone-24416.html
and a link to the exhibit-

Thanks for your time.
Enjoy the weekend.
Best,

Re: [Frameworks] LA super 8 camera: borrow/rental

2013-12-28 Thread Chris Lynn
Happy Holidays!
If you are in Washington DC live music and screenings tonight!
Films Below
1.Invocation (Ancient Harps) (Nick Collins, 2012)
U.K. 6:00 minutes.
Rhythms of summer light and ancient stone.

2.Marshy Place Across (Lorenzo Gattorna, 2012)
USA | Format: 16mm transferred to DV | color/b&w | sound | 4:30 minutes
The title signifies the Native American name for Assateague Island, a national
seashore and natural landmark located off the coast of Maryland. A passive bay
and pristine beach compose the barriers of this subtle yet stunning passage.
Distractions amongst the dunes awaken development of the ecological and
departure of the artificial. The film culminates in close proximity to a small
band of feral horses
that share a common territory and domesticated ancestry. — L.G.

Without failure you can never achieve success. I have based my process and my

Zero/Emily Roberts-Negron show

The next Synthetic Zero show at BronxArtSpace, "Looking In/Looking Out" will be
co-curated by Emily Roberts-Negron and Mitsu Hadeishi. We are looking for
experimental video and film, visual art, performance, music, readings, dance,
or other work for the show. The theme of the show is described below; please
feel free to submit any and all work related to the theme closely or remotely.
The submission deadline is October 10.
Looking in: I look at you, but I see a mixture of me and you, a facade of our
reflections. When we look in on someone or some thing, we imagine what we see
doesn't notice our gaze, yet the act of looking forever changes what we see as
well as ourselves. Can we ever really be separate from what we see? Can we ever
really touch what we see?
Looking out: A romantic gesture beyond ourselves. We look out at what appears
to be a/the/our world, surrounding us in sequence. But its expanse is
indefinite.  How far can we see before the lines begin to blur?
Can we see without looking?
Please email us at eve...@syntheticzero.com with information about your
submission; links, images, artist statement. If you would like to submit video,
please do NOT send DVDs --- send links to videos on Vimeo, YouTube, or download
links for video files.
Please call 718 772-4961
DIRECTIONS:
The art space is at 305 E. 140th St., #1A, Bronx NY 10454.

We're about 20 minutes from Union Square. From Manhattan, 4-5 train to 125th,
transfer to 6, one stop to 3rd Ave/138th St, it's 2 blocks from there. Note
there are two exits at 3rd Ave/138th, one at Alexander Ave and one at 3rd Ave.
Ring 3A or 1B if 1A does not answer.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO FRIENDS! Thanks.

Sure, useful site, fine, but the Web keeps making us stupider; why not learn to
do the calculations yourself? It's not hard. 20 minutes X 60 seconds per minute
X 24 frames per second divided by 40 frames per foot of 16mm = 720 feet.

It's always useful to have in one's head a few key statistics regarding one's
chosen gauge(s): frames in a foot, length of typical reels

Gabriele Stellbaum

My over-groomed sense of entitlement

Thursday, 25 April 2013
21:00

Z-Bar

Bergstraße 2

10115 Berlin-Mitte

A woman, the sole character in the scene and obviously in some
dependent employment stops to act according to the role expected of
her as employe. With unblinking eyes she seems to follow a different
agenda, or maybe a ³vision². She seems to act strange or
unreasonable, however it could be the opposite, that all of her
surroundings appear to be unreasonable to her. ³I would prefer not
to...² is her response when asked directly (Bartleby) This brief
outline of ³Bartleby² a video adaptation of the novel of Herman
Melville basically matches several of Gabriele Stellbaum's more recent
works. Another response of the female main character is: ³What you
call a violation has been an act of disgust² (Summer Frost). The
films are set in very different locations or studio sets. The camera
follows her almost all the time, it is very rarely allowed to detach
from her, and thus transmits a claustrophobic feeling, already. The
picture is clear, pristine and of that unforgiving sharpness of high
definition video realism, and still there is a sense of surrealism
similar to some of Lars von Trier's Dogma films (and ³Dogville²).
According to the artist it is all based on images, she starts a
project with a mental image she has, and searches or builds the sets
she is looking for: an office space that totally matches the color of
her printed cotton dress (Bartleby); a public indoor pool and all the
adjacent facility spaces connected with it (Friday, the 13th); a
seemingly endless parking garage that functions as a spiral-shaped
maze (Honest Lies); or a flat, snow covered winter landscape used as
intermitted images.

Gabriele Stellbaum will be present for Q&A. Curated by Klaus W.
Eisenlohr

Re: [Frameworks] Revolutions per Minute - Golgate

2013-03-02 Thread Chris Lynn
Speaking of Sound Art-If anyone  is in Washington  DC tonight-you should try to
make this-films and experimental musicSonic Circuits presents:
BLK TAG
BLK TAG are a collaborative effort between JS Adams (BLK w/BEAR) and Chris
Videll (Tag Cloud) first created for Long Division with Remainders’
Collision/Detection project. Their VERSION 5 download EP was released October
2012 on Front & Follow (UK) and will be included in a 2013 CD collection of all
versions and additional tracks. BLK TAG contributed to Music for Restrooms
(District of Noise) and the STYLUS!BLACK!FACTORY performance at the Sonic
Circuits 2012 festival. Zeromoon net label released BLK FRIDAY : TAG SALE -
their spontaneous response to Black Friday consumerism and post-apocalyptic
consumption - in December 2013. The pair finds influence in disparate pairings
of dead media recording blanks, Peter Hammill, Wir(e), Throbbing Gristle, Coil,
10cc, Henry Rollins, Amon Düül II, György Ligeti and the accordion music of
Aimable Pluchard. Additional assist on BLK TAG recordings comes from Doug
Poplin (BLK w/BEAR, Bach Sinfonia), Mark Ophidian
(Animals With Machinery; Crippled Black Phoenix) and PD Sexton (BLK w/BEAR).
Thanks to Mark Beazley - Trace Recordings (UK) for mastering and to Justin
Watson (Front & Follow) for first suggesting the collaboration. This
performance marks the live premiere of BLK TAG and will include some very
special guests on guitar and cello.

InMacro (Janx)
Several AM/FM receivers will be tuned to commercial stations, borrowing from
the commercial spectrum. The audio from these receivers will be fed into
several low power AM/FM transmitter/receiver pairs. The audio from this will be
routed to a central control station which will have a series of signal
processors as well as controls for the various radios. Simultaneously, visual
representations of the sound, created through either digital or analog means,
will be projected in different areas of the space. Finally, the created sound
will be broadcast back onto an FM wavelength, representing the return of what
we have borrowed to its natural environment. InMacro features radio producer
and multi-instrumentalist Luke Stewart, violist and lifelong tinkerer Patrick
McNameeking, programmer and musician Craig Roche.

Weed Tree
Layne Garrett works with guitars, found objects, and self-built instruments. He
plays in the improvising duo Weed Tree with drummer Amanda Huron. Other
activities have included organizing a large-scale tape-loop intervention in
Rock Creek Park, constructing a found-metal gong garden in his back yard, and
building a strange rolling sound sculpture for last year's Sonic Circuits
festival that was a real hit with the kids. “Layne Garrett is one of
Washington, DC's most creative artists. He is consistently pushing the
boundaries of instrumentation and approaches sound in ways that are always
fresh." -Socket Records

Bay Players Experimental Music Collective
The Bay Players Experimental Music Collective is a group of composers and
performers whose sole purpose is the performance and advocacy of experimental
music from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. We utilize traditional
instruments, such as electric and double bass, percussion, trombone, piano,
violin, and saxophone; voice; computers; and found objects. Our specialization
is in performing boundary-pushing scores—works that showcase the use of graphic
notation, indeterminacy, improvisation, installation, theater, and live
electronics.

I am an artist and improviser working in the fields of sound, kinetics,
assemblage, and optics. My primary interest is in the process of discovery
experienced through observation and experimentation. Playing a fundamental role
in my creative processes as well as in their realization is the use of chance,
non-intention, and natural phenomena to produce self-sustaining systems of
movement, sound, and light. My sound work includes musique concrete, field
recording, installation, and electronic, electro-acoustic, and
electro-mechanical improvisation. My work also exhibits various types of
movement, and reveals optical phenomena such as shadow, caustics, reflection,
refraction, and projection. Pieces are presented as performance installations /
interventions and as autonomous, kinetic assemblage-environments. In addition
to solo activities, I create sound and light design in collaboration with
dance, film/video and theatre artists.

Hi Zach,
There were other processes for older Ektachromes:
EM-24 / EM-25
EM-26 / EM-27
Last I checked, Martin Baumgarten at Plattsburgh Photographic Services is
still offering processing for these older Ektachromes, but while he's the
best value around for this kind of processing, I think its still around
double what you'd pay for E-6.

I don't recommend the older Ektachromes (even the E-6 stocks prior to
100D) unless you're doing it FOR that look - drab and cold by my eye when
it was fresh and who knows if its 10-years+ expired. Grab some 100D while
you still can for anything you want to look "good".

All,

Apologies for not listing this in the proper way (i.e., via This Week in the
Avant Garde), but I'm heading out on a 2+ month/30ish show (mostly) East Coast
tour starting tomorrow, and I thought I should give everyone a heads up.  The
full tour dates are
listed at the end of the press release here:

http://www.clas.ufl.edu/users/rogerbb/films/fall11tour.pdf

Any of you who find yourself along this path and feel like coming out should
introduce yourselves--it's always nice to put a face to the text-only personas
we meet on Frameworks.

Best,
Roger
