Re: [Frameworks] Standish Lawder Runaway

I know Standish's daughter Cynthia would be happy to have his work on DVD, as
would I. The Academy doesn't do DVD publishing, but we've assisted and
sometimes co-supervised a bunch of times with folks who do (Criterion, Flicker
Alley, etc.) I'd be happy to help with such an effort. Ingo, is there any
reason why you couldn't continue to do it?

 Hi Mark and Pip,
I find this only now after returning from a longer absence and would like to
add a few lines. In fact, Standish was a bit disorganized as you can see by
the fact hat he even planned to release a DVD with me on Red Avocado Film -
to bring him to Osnabrück was my idea and done with my financial
contribution. We even managed to shoot an interview documentary on the spot
for inclusion on the DVD. Trying to continue this co-operation long-distance
and all the while to no avail was more than frustrating - but such is life,
sometimes. News of his passing away were sad but didn't come completely as a
surprise. The only question that really matters now: is there a possibility
for you to release a DVD of his truely essential work? I would simply LOVE to
see it. And as for the interview film: I will probably upload it to the Red
Avocado Film web site. In its edited version it's just a bit over 30 minutes
but probably depicts one of the last times that Standish was up to the task
and gave insights into his life and work. May this great and too often
 overlooked filmmaker rest in peace.

 Thanks Mark,
That's a very nice blog post.
I met Standish a couple of years ago on his trip to Osnabruck and Paris and
we became good friends. He stayed in my place, and he sold me a good print
of Corridor at that time. We stayed in touch and planned to release a DVD of
his films together, but he soon became disorganized in his thoughts as some
dementia set in and he moved to California.
It was great to revisit him a little in your post.
My only criticism is that it's hard to read white text on a black
background (Jonas would really take you to task for that). So I'm seeing
lines everywhere in my head now.
 All the best,

 Hi all -
If you're interested, I've written something about my experience picking up
Standish Lawder's films in 2007, prompted by the arrival of the rest of his
film elements today from his daughter (and the discovery of one element in
 particular).

I wrote to the LA Kodak rep (who has always been very helpful) to get her
response about the discontinuations. Will pass it along when I hear anything!

Well, if 3378 goes away, there is always the Agfa ST-8 replacement.

But I can see 3378 disappearing as projection prints become less and less
in demand, and I can see an age where electroprinting returns.

Re: [Frameworks] If you want Kodak hicon, order it now

2014-08-27 Thread Film Object
Hey Lindsay,

It's not on the discontinuation list they sent me earlier this month, but a rep
offhandedly mentioned it, though that may have been an error. I just emailed
them to get the official word.

 Hi Mark

Are you sure about the 5363? You were right about everything else but
I hadn't heard about 5363. I've got my order in for 7363 but just
wondering if I need to worry about this one too.
 Thanks

 Hi all,

I spoke to the L.A. Kodak rep yesterday, and 7363 16mm hicon is on back
order, but the current plan is for Kodak to most likely fill any order as
long as it comes in basically NOW.

So if you want any of this stuff, call 1-800-621-FILM and place an order
while you can. You will likely be told it's on back order, but you should
be able to place an order anyway. It's not a 100% guarantee at this point
that you'll get the stock, but it's very likely.

The same should be the case for 5363 35mm hicon, which I believe is also
 being discontinued.

 All the best,
