[Frameworks] LOOKING FOR ALTERNATIVE/ HAND PROCESSING RESOURCES ON THE WEB

2013-08-29 Thread Jason Wade
HELLO,
I'm looking for links to places on the web that feature information on
alternative processing/ cross processing/ and hand processing of super 8 and
16mm stocks.

Unfortunately many of the links I have found for this subject do not work.
Thank you for your time everyone, have a great day!

Re: [Frameworks] Self Developing Mess

2013-09-17 Thread Jason Wade
it's gotta be the bleach. I would recommend maybe mixing your bleach a less
strong or have the chemicals in the bleach for less time. Perhaps do a short
test or two. I've seen Tri-x that was stored in the worst conditions, after
being shot even, for like 30 years come out looking like it was brand new. I
don't think the temperature would have anything to do with this problem. Best
luck.

Hi Scott,

All the chemicals were at 20 Celsius, but I wasn't completely careful on the
rinses. If anything the water may have been a bit cooler. Could this have been
the problem?

It was 7278 from Kodak. Now that it is drying it looks like the emulsion looks
like it's sticking, but while it was wet, it was coming off all over and we
could barely handle the film to get it hung. One false slip of a finger and the
frame was on my hand instead of on the base.

there is a place called "Zajia Lab" in Beijing, small really nice place for
moving images and music. I showed a program there last year. You can
contact Ambra Corinti (ambra.cori...@gmail.com), she runs the place with
her chinese husband.

They dont have a website, mostly because of governmental content control i
guess, but they update their facebook-page.

Re: [Frameworks] Hand processing E6 as B&W reversal

2014-01-03 Thread Jason Wade
I believe rocky mountain film labs in CO processes all those old ektachrome
stocks as a black and white negative. The guy that runs Rocky mountain film
labs, Steve, is very helpful and easy to talk to... I have called him in the
past and he has been very nice, helpful, and easy to talk to Google their
info and give him a call, but you'd better either record the call or be able to
write fast cause he really has a wealth of information. BEST!

http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3141/52c71445b8c63144522a4st01ducAll colour films can be processed in B&W chemistry to get a B&W image. I've not
really done much of it except for the odd time of a mistake when a colour short
end got mislabeled as B&W and the film was not as ancient as your stock. Why
don't you just process a snip test of your ektachrome? You'll want to push it a
stop for the age of the film and the image will still be rather flat compared
to a true B&W image.

Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone has experience/advice/formulas for processing E6 as
B&W reversal. I have some Ektachrome 160 (EM-26, so remjet) super 8 (expired in
'97) that I'd like to experiment with. I haven't been able to find too much
information and I've only processed B&W negative and reversal before, so I lack
color experience, but have a general working knowledge of these film types and
realize that there will be some alteration in the process in consideration of
the color layers.

Thanks,
Chris

Scott,
Rocky mountain film labs is still open. They moved. I sat down and visited
with Steve for about two hours less than two months ago when I was in Colorado.

Small labs have a hard enough time as it is, please take the time to become
better informed before you spread a rumor about struggling independent
businesses closing.

here is their website. http://www.rockymountainfilm.com/

I am sorry to report that Rocky Mountain Film Labs shut down about two
years back. They did lovely work and were always free to explain what
they were doing in great detail.

If I had E-6, I'd try running it through pincryptol yellow and then developing
by inspection in D-76. Otherwise I'd take a few clip tests to develop in
D-76 to get the development time correct. Develop until you get a nice black
highlight with some highlight detail, don't worry about the shadows.

[Frameworks] looking for darkroom/ film resources in bay area CA

2014-01-22 Thread Jason Wade

Hey everyone!
I am gonna be around California (Oakland, Berkeley, San Francisco) for the
next couple months. Does anyone have any tips on where to get chemistry or any
other supplies around here? I need some darkroom access. Really what I need
is to find some FILM nerds like me out here that are interested in film
processing and process or have processed their own film that will really know
what I am talking about. Are there any labs here?

I contacted people from Canyon Cinema and Other Cinema, but so far I have not
really been able to find hand processing/ film resources. Any advice is most
appreciated. Other artists that hand process in this area that I can check
out?

thanks,
Jason Wade
