[Frameworks] Call for Entries: Inside is Not the Opposite of Outside - Synthetic Zero/Emily Roberts-Negron show

2012-04-11 Thread Mitsu Hadeishi
The next Synthetic Zero show at BronxArtSpace, "Inside is Not the Opposite of
Outside" will be co-curated by Emily Roberts-Negron and Mitsu Hadeishi. We are
looking for experimental video, visual art, performance, music, readings,
dance, or other work for the show. The theme of the show is described below;
please feel free to submit any and all work related to the theme closely or
remotely.

Define extrovert. Introvert.

These two words have been interpreted and reinterpreted to conform to a general
understanding of disposition. But perhaps these varying definitions illustrate
a much more complex idea, that they aren't really in opposition of one another.
Perhaps the two exist on their own; individual spectrums which echo one another
like the rise and fall of an ocean's tide.

How does one describe an array of emotion, taking account of every nuance and
change? This show will be an exploration of the
behavior/idiosyncrasies/characterstics of introversion both as an emotional
mode and a space of introspection and creative incubation, not as the polar
opposite of extroversion, but overlapping with it, undulating together with it,
in waves. We are looking for works across the full gradation of emotion and
expression. They can be romantic, pessimistic, hairy, toothsome, frustrated,
proud, intellectual, courteous, hungry, lonely, horny, cautious, congenial,
meditative... together they will form a collective depiction of this singular
paradoxical relation.

Please email us at eve...@syntheticzero.com with information about your
submission; links, images, etc. See below for information on sending DVDs

If you're submitting a DVD, you can send it to:

interests. By working this way, we hope the events reflect back the dialogue

audience. In the past, a diverse set of curators has chosen work by artists
from around the world, including Miranda July, Yoshi Sodeoka, Zoe Leonard,
Hector Canonge, Benton Bainbridge, and many others. Prior event programs can be
found here.

[Frameworks] Call for Entries: Looking In/Looking Out - Synthetic Zero/Emily Roberts-Negron show

2013-09-17 Thread Mitsu Hadeishi
The next Synthetic Zero show at BronxArtSpace, "Looking In/Looking Out" will be
co-curated by Emily Roberts-Negron and Mitsu Hadeishi. We are looking for
experimental video and film, visual art, performance, music, readings, dance,
or other work for the show. The theme of the show is described below; please
feel free to submit any and all work related to the theme closely or remotely.
The submission deadline is October 10.

Looking in: I look at you, but I see a mixture of me and you, a facade of our
reflections. When we look in on someone or some thing, we imagine what we see
doesn't notice our gaze, yet the act of looking forever changes what we see as
well as ourselves. Can we ever really be separate from what we see? Can we ever
really touch what we see?

Looking out: A romantic gesture beyond ourselves. We look out at what appears
to be a/the/our world, surrounding us in sequence. But its expanse is
indefinite. How far can we see before the lines begin to blur?

Can we see without looking?

Please email us at eve...@syntheticzero.com with information about your
submission; links, images, artist statement. If you would like to submit video,
please do NOT send DVDs --- send links to videos on Vimeo, YouTube, or download
links for video files.

Please call 718 772-4961
