2019-12-10 Thread Seth Fein
Saturday evening, December 14, I will preview *Small Kitchens*
<http://www.sevenlocalfilm.com/what-we-make/small-kitchens>, a (25 min)
artdoc that examines work in confined cooking spaces beneath the 7 train in
Queens. The screening is at *Terraza 7
<http://terraza7.com/event/small-kitchens-documentary-screening-preview/> *near
where I shot the work, between a Nepali and a Mexican establishment, a few
blocks from each other, between Jackson Heights and Emhurst.

[Frameworks] Between Neighborhoods screens Saturday 17 November 2018 @ 2:30 in Queens

2018-11-14 Thread Seth Fein
Compañeros, I'm looking forward to discussing the interborough and
international future and past of Queens –– between the ages of
Ocasio-Cortez and Robert Moses, Amazon occupying LIC and the last New York
World's Fair's occupation of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park –– when I
screen *Between
Neighborhoods*, my split-screen artdoc about the histories of imperialism
and immigration that orbit the Unisphere, at the Queens Historical Society
this Saturday, 17 November 2018
.
I particularly relish conversing with y'all, experimental filmmaker
comrades, about the promise of video to do history, critically,
nonlinearly, and provocatively, so please consider joining. More about
Between Neighborhoods is on my site below.

[Frameworks] August 4th Queens Museum Screening of Between Neighborhoods

2018-07-30 Thread Seth Fein
My experimental artdoc, BETWEEN NEIGHBORHOODS, about the Unisphere will
play this coming
Saturday,
August 4, at the Queens Museum at noon
.
It's part of the Kew Gardens Festival of Cinema, and I'm happy that it's
nominated for Best Doc, but I'm happiest that this film will play in a
building at the center of the histories it connects between today and the
1960s, right in front of its principal subject, the Unisphere –– an unusual
opportunity to contemplate the place of cinema to create and mediate
present and past. But it's not just a matter of place but also time;
Between Neighborhoods studies the forces generated by immigration, which
have recently reshaped US politics, most noticeably in Queens. In any case, in
any case, in addition to the clip linked to the festival details above, here
are a couple of more as well as additional background on the film
.

[Frameworks] audiovisual piece about documentary art and history in the new Jump Cut 58

2018-04-27 Thread Seth Fein
I hope that this essay and interview, "*Between Neighborhoods* (2017):
documentary art, audiovisual history, and public humanities," Josh Glick in
conversation with Seth Fein, in the new
<https://www.ejumpcut.org/currentissue/GlickFeinQueens/index.html>Jump Cut
58 <https://www.ejumpcut.org/currentissue/GlickFeinQueens/index.html> will
be of interest to Frameworks; the film it focuses on, and illustrates with
clips, is in dialogue with the experimental work of this list and Anthology
(where, who knows?, maybe it screens someday!).

[Frameworks] Steenbeck for research

2018-04-08 Thread Seth Fein
Does anyone know of a Steenbeck I can use for research, to review 16mm
footage for a doc I'm making.

Also, does anyone have a good quality (economical) rec for digital
transfers of 16mm (answer) prints?

Appreciate any help, much. Also could use a good intern!
