[Frameworks] 16mm Camera In The Fridge

2012-08-07 Thread alex . mccarron
Hey Guys,

So I'm looking for a way to keep film in a camera for awhile in an apartment
that sometimes gets pretty warm. I'm wondering how bad of an idea it'd be to
keep the camera in the fridge.

I'm working on a project that mostly involves stills but also some motion, I'd
like to able to keep exposed film in my Scoopic possibly over the course of a
week or two if not longer. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Alex McCarron

Re: [Frameworks] Traders? Sellers? Broken Scoopics? Boulex Lenses?

2012-07-31 Thread Alex McCarron
It has some nicks and scratches. I rolled the dice on a cheap "as is" ebay
posting. I usually don't see anything wrong in developed footage but at
certain f-stops and focal lengths you do see the flaws in the lens. At the
end of the roll I'm shooting now I'm going to do a thorough test and if
anyone is interested I can share the results. Right now I'm just putting
the feelers out if anyone wants to me reshuffle my gear situation.

[Frameworks] Traders? Sellers? Broken Scoopics? Boulex Lenses?

2012-07-31 Thread alex . mccarron
Hey,

So I've had a Scoopic 16M with a jacked up lens and a Bolex Rex-5 without
lenses for awhile and I think it's about time to solve either problem.

Does anyone have:
A broken Scoopic with a well cared for lens?

OR

A need for a Scoopic with a jacked up lens (that still takes great pictures
most of the time) and either C-Mount lenses or enough cash to buy some in
exchange?

It's a movie me and my auto-correct are writing together.

Full disclosure: I am a young crank and I would love to have an esoteric
conversation about reversal vs. negative but it saddens me that all web
communities do this, turn into stuffy cohabitations with people you used to
enjoy.

If the galleries and theaters don't want experimental film surely places like
this are the future and we should find some way to let dumb jokes pass by
without comment.

I will take my comments off the air.

2. We should be more reverent when talking about the man who made Kustom Karen

I don't post much but that's partly because I don't read much because so many

Re: [Frameworks] Cheap Transfer In NYC

2012-06-22 Thread Alex McCarron
I thought about that and was following the other discussion about this. I'd
really like something that will look good when the stills are uploaded to a
website later.

So I guess I'm looking for the cheapest professional looking transfer in
NYC or a time consuming and cheap way of achieving that quality that is
maybe something like finding the stills and motion parts I want with a
steenbeck and hand scanning the 3600 individual frames myself?

Anything but a garage transfer is what I'm saying.

Technicolor is saying $0.48/ft with a student discount. Anyone think I can
beat that?

2012-06-22 Thread alex . mccarron
So, I have a 100' roll of Tri-X 16mm that I want an HD transfer of. It's mostly
stills and little burst of video that I intended as sketches and tests for a
longer project.

Anyone know of lab that's not gonna give me any jive about roll minimums that I
can take a subway to? Or any ad hoc solutions?

[Frameworks] Cleaning a Scoopic

2012-04-29 Thread Alex McCarron
Hey all,

I took the pressure plate off my Scoopic today to clean the gate and saw
that the piece of glass beyond the shutter (the prism?) is filthy.

It's been two years since I had it cleaned and greased.

How bad of an idea would it be to try and clean the camera myself? Just as
a temporary solution before I can send it in to get serviced again?

Re: [Frameworks] 16mm stills in LA

2012-01-03 Thread Alex McCarron
Recipes for Disaster had a good sounding solution - photo enlarger pointed
at a 35mm camera with its lens taken off, use the internal light meter to
judge the correct shutter speed.

I tried it on my DSLR and it looked pretty good.

Re: [Frameworks] MSNBC: "Report: 35mm film will be dead by 2015"

2011-11-16 Thread Alex McCarron
I would really like you to be right and for there still be a reason for
distributors to release new films as prints just to cater to poor, hot
countries like India and that it would somehow be more affordable for
theaters in those countries to deal with the current distribution system
rather than whatever is coming next with digital projectors. I have to
admit I don't know that much about theaters in the third world but I'm
still skeptical that the poor will keep a more expensive way of
distributing films alive.

The unions should start supporting celluloid. You'll always need human
