Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s fondness for this technique was on display at the
Martin Gropius Bau in Berlin last year. Here’s a list of films that were
displayed: “Another room in
Fassbinder – JETZT is dedicated to one of Fassbinder’s favoured formal
techniques: the 360 degree tracking shot. Scenes from
Rio das Mortes (1970), World on a Wire (1973),
Martha (1973), Chinese Roulette (1976),
Berlin Alexanderplatz (1979/80), and Querelle (1982) play on a loop on a
hanging screen.”

‘Chinese Roulette’ has my favorite 720 degree tracking shot through glass
shelves.

Glad to see this topic here. Searching for a Yosemite compatible
replacement for Mac the Ripper is complicated by whether it is a lossless
rip, or not. MtR was a lossless extraction of the VIDEO_TS, but others
produce generational loss as part of a conversion. Thanks in advance for
more comments on the available solutions.

Hey Viktoria,

I strongly doubt you will find a projector rental outlet in Osnabrück,
which is a small town. Especially if you're after Bauer's, which are
more difficult to find than Eiki's.

You should look for services in Berlin, Hamburg, Münich and have them
shipped.

Good luck,
Marco

Does anyone know about 16mm-projector-rentals in the area around
Osnabrück?

 thank u!

Hi Adam,

I've been using one of the iSkysoft products. There are a couple for
mac, Video Converter and Media Converter, which work with yosemite.
These are commercial, but affordable, $40 to $60 or something like
that, and will convert pretty much anything, with flexible settings and
good results. They also capture/download streaming video from
websites. One, if not both, will rip DVDs directly to a .mov -- but not
ProRes, so you'd still need to do that with Quicktime. It's a consumer
product, so easy interface and presets for all kinds of device/online
formats, but you can ignore them and set exact specs. Also way faster
than handbrake and others I've used.

Cheers,

Todd

Boards online are cluttered with people hawking software.

[Frameworks] Grants for Experimental Media

Thanks in advance.

You could still use Handbrake, then use Mpeg Streamclip to convert it to
mov. Either way it's a two step process.

Re: [Frameworks] CAPTURING DVD

2014-09-13 Thread salise.hug...@gmail.com
Most of the DVDs I've come across aren't copy protected, but it's still a two
step process. Handbrake, which is freeware will rip the NTSC DVD to a mpeg 4
format, then I use mpeg streamclip to make a mov file. With PAL DVD you can rip
it with just mpeg streamclip.

MPEG Streamclip will not do the job alone for commercial DVDs. They're copy
protected. Capturing clips from them for educational/scholarly purposes is Fair
Use, but the technology to defeat the copy protection is illegal.

AFAIK, there are only two current Mac apps that rip copy-protected discs:

'Mac DVD Ripper Pro'http://www.macdvdripperpro.com/
This works pretty well.

'DVDFab Mac'http://www.dvdfab.cn/dvd-ripper-for-mac.htm
This is a Mac port of a popular PC app. Can't say how well it works. The full
version lets you select specific clips and out put in various formats.

There's also a freeware version of the decrypter that just does the whole disc
or main title:
http://www.dvdfab.cn/hd-decrypter-for-mac.htm
Once you have a decrypted file or VIDEO-TS folder, you can open it in MPEG
Streamclip, define specific clips, and export them to a variety of formats.

...

On the Windows side, there are more options, most notably AnyDVD, which makes
encrypted DVDs appear unencrypted to the OS, and thus you can use and copy
conversion whatever software on them. The no-longer developed (i.e. shut-down)
old reliables DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink still work on most DVDs.

...

You can always see what's available out there by checking the 'Tools' page on
WideoHelp.com
http://www.videohelp.com/tools

The specific sub-categories are all for PC, and all the Mac stuff is gathered
under 'MacOS video tools.

[Frameworks] Serbian / Woodstock home movies

2014-07-27 Thread salise.hug...@gmail.com
Dear Frameworkers,
I'm hoping one of you can solve a mystery for me. I was given some found
footage from a Serbian filmmaker who bought it from a gypsy, so its origins are
unknown. Most of the footage contains decades of home movies of a Serbian
family, except for this one small section.

http://vimeo.com101359349

I think this footage might be home movies from the Woodstock festival, or maybe
some other festival around the same time near water. It is completely out of
context with the rest, and I think it may have been recorded from projection.
The original footage bought from the gypsy was shot on S8 then later transfered
to video by projection so there's already distortion. It starts with a strange
illustration of covered wagons, and later a title that says Jefferson Airplane.
The oddest thing is in the end there are some large triangle floatation
devises. If this is from Woodstock I would think these floats would of made it
into the documentary. So, if anyone can solve this mystery please let me know.
