That sounds very interesting, though. I think you should try to publish it
somewhere else.

[Frameworks] Luther Price RIP

2020-06-20 Thread Bernard Roddy
Esperanza Collado, it's on my hard drive. I sent it to Critical Inquiry and
they said I had to talk more about film. So I tried to get Luther to come
up with a DVD. I had seen the film only once. On the phone Luther said he
didn't have a DVD, but he said he'd ask some guy at Anthology to come up
with one. The guy never came through. So the essay remains rather
philosophical, with periodic returns to Clown and the cinema.

2020-06-17 Thread Brigitta Burger-Utzer
Yesterday sixpackfilm had its general assembly and in the evening Peter
Tscherkassky told us the sad news and he added that Luther had a stroke and he
was far too young to pass away. Also I met him for the first time in A Coruna
and liked him with his eccentric character. We talked about the fetish of
fashion and his horrifying masterpiece SODOM: first time I saw it in the cinema
I had to hold on to my seat. What a nightmarish film! And it was remarkable how
dedicated he was into his art and especially the work with Found Footage.
Peter yesterday immediately asked if we ever invited him because this was my
plan after meeting him personally, now it is too late.

I wish him that his films will last very long !!

Yeah, Tom Rhoads.  That said it is important to recognize him as  Luther
Price.  Strange, I think I saw him use both names on a bill at the RAT in the
early 90s.    Mass Art owns a copy of Sodom, and maybe another.  I think a few
other prints exist in private collections.

2020-06-16 Thread Daniel A. Swarthnas
Dear all!

Very sad news about Luther Price. I heard he had a fatal stroke, but I can't confirm this information ...

LightCone in Paris distribute a few of his super 8 films on film:

Best regards,

I'm very sorry to hear that. The intensity of his work was profound, a
revelation about what experimental film can be.

Hi all,

I just heard that Luther Price passed away but don't know the
reason. I only met him once in 2017 in A Coruña and we had the most
bizarre conversation in a jazz bar. Ed Halter was with him and took
care of him, I don't know much more but I thought I would share
here. There certainly was an aura of mystery around him.

Best,
