 Quick question, is there a specific reason why ctld doesnt create the file /
 device for iscsi, or fc ?
 the previous iscsi would read the config file and create the file / device
 ... it now appears to be a
 manual process.

You mean, the backing files (path /dev/zvol/whatever, for example), right?

I thought about it. Problem is, while it makes it somewhat easier in very
simple
situations, it's not very useful in real life - ctld (or CTL) has no
information what
the permissions should be, should the file be fully or thin provisioned (in
other
words, whether it supposed to be filled with zeroes, truncated to a correct
length,
or perhaps it's a ZVOL with reservation set), etc. And you don't want it to
create
files when you make a typo in path name.

Re: mysql-client-5.6.14 build failed

 Subject: mysql-client-5.6.14 build failed
 Message-ID: 524b54e2.1040...@gmail.com

 Hi all.

 mysql-client-5.6.14 not build with clang

 /usr/ports/databases/mysql56-client/work/mysql-5.6.14/sql/net_serv.cc:48:
 In file included from /usr/include/c++/v1/algorithm:627:
 /usr/include/c++/v1/memory:968:39: error: expected unqualified-id
  template class _Up static __two test(...);

The build fails because the 'test' macro is defined in include/my_global.h:
#define test(a) ((a) ? 1 : 0)
yet libc++ standard header memory defines 'test' as the name of a
function:
template class _Up static char test(typename _Up::pointer* = 0);

MySQL C++ source code files like sql/net_serv.cc #include my_global.h
before
including memory. This ordering will result in the 'test' function in
memory
macro-expanded into nonsense.

After a casual scan, more C++ source code files might be affacted:

client/mysql.cc:45:#include algorithm
client/mysqlbinlog.cc:58:#include algorithm
client/mysqltest.cc:51:#include algorithm
client/sql_string.cc:28:#include algorithm
...

I've prepared an ad hoc patch that modifies include/my_global.h to include
memory before defining the 'test' macro, so that further including of
memory
will be uneffective and hence unharmful. I believe this likely to be useful
before there is a fix from upstream mysql or libc++. Now this package
(mysql56-client) and the server counterpart (mysql56-server) build fine.
I'm new
to FreeBSD so I hope someone else could produce a better solution. Any
comments
will be highly appreciated! Thanks.

 including memory. This ordering will result in the 'test' function in
 memory
 macro-expanded into nonsense.

 After a casual scan, more C++ source code files might be affacted:

 client/mysql.cc:45:#include algorithm
 client/mysqlbinlog.cc:58:#include algorithm
 client/mysqltest.cc:51:#include algorithm
 client/sql_string.cc:28:#include algorithm
 ...

 I've prepared an ad hoc patch that modifies include/my_global.h to include
 memory before defining the 'test' macro, so that further including of
 memory
 will be uneffective and hence unharmful. I believe this likely to be useful
 before there is a fix from upstream mysql or libc++. Now this package
 (mysql56-client) and the server counterpart (mysql56-server) build fine.
 I'm new
 to FreeBSD so I hope someone else could produce a better solution. Any
 comments
 will be highly appreciated! Thanks.

 Here comes the patch (see also the attachment):

Please update to latest HEAD (about mid last week) and to latest portstree
because the issues are already fixed in libc++ and the mysql 5.6 port.

Btw your analysis is correct but I have chosen a less intrusive fix in libc++
memory to rename that internal test function and another patch to mysql 5.6.

RFC: support for first boot rc.d scripts

2013-10-13 Thread Colin Percival
Hi all,

I've attached a very simple patch which makes /etc/rc:

1. Skip any rc.d scripts with the firstboot keyword if /var/db/firstboot
does not exist,

2. If /var/db/firstboot and /var/db/firstboot-reboot exist after running rc.d
scripts, reboot.

3. Delete /var/db/firstboot (and firstboot-reboot) after the first boot.

The purpose of this is to support run on first boot rc.d scripts. These can
be useful for both virtual machines and embedded systems; unlike conventional
desktops and servers, these may have a lengthy gap between installing and
turning on the system.

As examples of what such scripts could do:

* In Amazon EC2, I use a first boot script to download an SSH public key
from EC2 so that users can log in to newly provisioned EC2 instances.

* Now that (starting from 10.0-BETA1) it is possible to use FreeBSD Update
to update everything on EC2 instances, I'm planning on writing a script which
runs 'freebsd-update fetch install' when the system first boots, and then
reboots if there were updates installed. (I imagine this would be useful
to other embedded / VM providers too.)

* Once packages are provided (properly) for 10.0 I'd like to allow people to
specify a list of packages they want installed onto an EC2 instance and have
them downloaded and installed when the EC2 instance launches.

I'd like to get this into HEAD in the near future in the hope that I can
convince re@ that this is a simple enough (and safe enough) change to merge
before 10.0-RELEASE.

Comments?

I saw that bind was removed from the current branch because of security

It was removed, but I believe that there was a bit more to it than
security problems.

I think it was just a personal preference that managed to get communicated
as important, and no-one had the energy or will to argue about it.
(that's the way software projects often work.. loudest and most
persistent voice wins).

but didn't know nslookup was part of BIND.

Now I see in $PORTSDIR/dns/bind-tools/pkg-plist

bin/dig
bin/host
bin/nslookup

so host is also part of BIND?

:-} The version of host we had when BIND was part of base was part of
BIND, yes. Looking in src/usr.bin/host/Makefile, I see:

# $FreeBSD: head/usr.bin/host/Makefile 255949 2013-09-30 17:23:45Z des $

LDNSDIR=${.CURDIR}/../../contrib/ldns
LDNSHOSTDIR=${.CURDIR}/../../contrib/ldns-host
...

which indicates that this is a re-implementation of host as
provided by contrib/ldns.

I will remember to use host in the future.

I have found it generally easy to use (easier by far than nslookup).

Peace,
david

Re: ZFS panic (dn-dn_datablkshift != 0) with r256304 and send/recv

2013-10-13 Thread Andriy Gapon
on 14/10/2013 03:34 Keith White said the following:
 I get the following assert failure with a recent current:

 panic: solaris assert: dn-dn_datablkshift != 0, file:
 /usr/src/sys/modules/zfs/../../cddl/contrib/opensolaris/uts/common/fs/zfs/dmu_tx.c,
 line: 638

Please see https://www.illumos.org/issues/4188
The current best known fix is to simply drop the assertion.
Though, I am not entirely sure if this will be the final solution. I'll
double-check with Matt.
