Oracle 9i installation makes my system reboot

2003-10-25 Thread Vitalis
Hi,

I followed the meaningful instructions from
http://www.shadowcom.net/freebsd-oracle9i/

All worked well until the installer tried to launch netca. The netca GUI
never appeared.
Then OUI tried to launch dbca. A blank windows appeared, and a few
second later the system rebooted.

I uninstalled the whole thing and I tried again to no avail.

There are not many clues in the system or Oracle log files. Here is the
end of oraInventory/logs/installActions2003-10-25_04-32-02PM.log

The "Unable to read ..." lines look suspiscious. Did they appear in a

After multiple checks and handlings of the analog cable, sounds from my
audio CD "magically" came to my ears; I'll change it ASAP since it seems
seriously corrupted.

Thanks for your answer. I've just installed the port, but when I launch
xmms, I get this message:
/usr/X11R6/lib/xmms/Input/libcdread.so: Undefined symbol
"playlist_generate_shuffle_list"

and the plug-in does not appear in xmms configuration.

Any idea?

Can't hear audio CDs (Asus P4P800 / Soundmax)

2003-09-23 Thread Vitalis
Hi,

On my box there is an Asus P4P800 motherboard with an integrated
Soundmax soundcard. I can play audio files through it thanks to the
snd_ich and snd_pcm drivers. But when I play audio CDs, with cdcontrol
or X11 apps, no sound is heard, though the mixer settings are correct.

The audio tracks are recognized correctly by all players, they actually
seem to play them, but without any sound (which could be useful 8)

TIA

(FreeBSD 5.1-CURRENT)

The output is unreadable: control characters such as newline characters
are discarded so that vi shows the whole files on one huge line. It's
the same thing with sysinstall; we can not navigate within it and it
dumps core after a few second.

ncurses-5.3 buggy under 5.1-current

2003-09-21 Thread Vitalis
Hi!

The installation of the ncurses-5.3 port leaves the system unusable for
apps needing libncurses e.g. vi, sysinstall... The characters on output
are severely scrambled.

Its desinstallation solves the problem (the ncurses-5.2 from src/contrib
works fine with 5.1-current). But some good ports require ncurses-5.3!

Hi!

Is anybody working on this critical bug?
Do you know what's the source of the problem? According to the PR report, it seems
that mount_ext2fs works on some 5.x system...

/stand/sysinstall with upgraded 5.1-BETA

2003-05-31 Thread Vitalis
Hi!

I've searched the ML archives to no avail, so here's my questions:

* What's the difference between /stand/sysinstall and /usr/sbin/sysinstall?
* I've remade world from the latest cvs tree, and /stand/sysinstall was not updated.
The handbook suggests to run a "make all install" from /usr/src/release/sysinstall,
but this directory does not exist. Is it because the handbook was not updated
accordingly to versions 5.x?
* So what do I have to do with /stand/sysinstall?

TIA
