Known problem on fbsd5.0RC1 is that arla uses the pioctl syscall (339) but the built in libkafs in freebsd uses 210 (lkmsys), set AFS_SYSCALL=339 in your enviroment (including arlad's). ftp://ftp.stacken.kth.se/pub/arla/snap/arla-0.36pre5.tar.gz MD5 (arla-0.36pre5.tar.gz) = 48a9955df0e69fac5a323a48b29aec66 (untested) binaries releases for random platforms might be found in ftp://ftp.stacken.kth.se/pub/arla/binaries/0.36pre5 Feedback is appreciated. I added most off the Andrea's patches into current arla, so there is better hope of getting that working with FreeBSD 5.0 current. I just downloaded the RC1 images and will see if I can get it working later today. Love To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe freebsd-current" in the body of the message

More interesting, I had patches to put the xfs layer in the kernel, and I was able to run with them linked in or as a module. Locking however was very primitive, and I'm not sure it still compiles cleanly. However, my company has since dropped its AFS project, so I don't have any test lab available anymore. If anybody would want to take over the project, I might be able to help - but not much more than that. Bye, Andrea -- Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with your Microsoft product. [not that I have openafs working on -current > either, but I do hope to get to that soon...] I don't actually care about whether it's arla or openafs (we are running openafs on linux boxes and it's running OK) but I need to have AFS client (and even better a server) working. I've noticed some rather sporadic mails on freebsd port openafs mailing list but I felt like it's not under heavy development. BTW: how about commiting openafs to the ports tree to have at least some common place for patches that can be tested... If I can help with getting one (or both) of these ported to -CURRENT I'd be happy to do so (e.g. testing of current patches etc.) Petr Petr Holub CESNET z.s.p.o. Can anybody help? I believe arla needs to have some effort put into it to get it working on -current. I started looking into that about six to eight months ago, but ran into a streak of bad luck trying to do anything at all with -current, and eventually gave up. That wasn't arla's fault, I was just having a string of bad luck. Now that I'm having much better luck with -current, I haven't had the time to go back and look into arla. Also, since that time there has been a fair amount of progress with openafs support for freebsd, and for my own purposes that would be an "easier sell" to my managers anyway. [not that I have openafs working on -current either, but I do hope to get to that soon...] When I was looking into this, I was talking with Andrea Campi about some changes he had for arla on -current. He was also very busy at the time, but maybe he still has that around. (I'm in the middle of upgrading & shuffling my hardware around, and I think I lost my copy of those arla changes in the process of that shuffling). -- Garance Alistair Drosehn= [EMAIL PROTECTED] Senior Systems Programmer or [EMAIL PROTECTED] Rensselaer Polytechnic Instituteor [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe freebsd-current" in the body of the message
arla 0.35.11 on FreeBSD 5.0-RC1
Hi, I tried to compile arla 0.35.11 on FreeBSD 5.0-RC1. Fisrt I got following error: checking for udev2dev in kernel... yes checking for snprintf in kernel... yes checking for nosys in kernel... yes checking for sys_nosys in kernel... no checking for sys_lkmnosys in kernel... no checking for cache_purgevfs in kernel... yes checking for vfs_name_hash in kernel... no checking for memcpy in kernel... yes checking if vnode_if.h needs to be built... configure: error: unable to find any vnode_if script So I have linked -su-2.05b# ln -s /sys/i386/compile/EVENSTAR/vnode_if.h /usr/include/vnode_if.h Then configre and make proceeds until it stops on error shown below my siganture. Can anybody help? Thanks very much, Petr PS: I know I'm sendin almost the same mail as last time but it's quite important for me to get it solved. Petr Holub CESNET z.s.p.o.
