HEADS UP: doc/ slush for 8.4R begins on 17 March, 2013

Hi all,

The doc slush will begin on 17 March, 2013.
 
The purpose of the doc slush is to slow down the rate of change in that
tree in order to allow the translation teams time to finalize their work
and to avoid last-minute breakage for the 8.4-RELEASE.

As usual, this is not a real freeze and requires no formal commit
approval procedure for your commit, but you are kindly requested not to
commit large, structural changes during that period.

Tagging of the doc tree is scheduled to take place on 31 March, 2012.

release, please let me know.

It was supposed working in the same way as the trademarks, i.e., the 1st
occurence is expanded/rendered.

Hello,

You sent your mail on July, 30 so you should let people the time to
answer to you :)

I encourage you to continue your translations and, if possible, find
some korean speaking people to review them.  You can understand, that it
is difficult to add a new translation without knowing if it's correct
or not :)
I'm very busy for about 2 weeks, after I could commit your translations
and create the misc/freebsd-doc-kr port.

large change to fix or improve our documentation for 12.2-RELEASE,

One sentence per line makes the read of diff/commit logs really
difficult.  I gave up reading the commit logs because of that.
It's really a pain to find what changed without even talking about the
edition of a long non-wrapped line in an editor.
Some languages are very verbose, so we would end with very long lines.
For a such change seems so backward.

Why it would be a problem?
With the current setup, we can't really use the diff and the commit
logs.  Paragraphs are now single long lines.  For a single character
change, we now commit hundreds of characters instead of 72 in the worst
case in past.  Just from a sustainability point of view, I'm concerned
about that situation.

The doc slush will begin on 15 October, 2021

The purpose of the doc slush is to slow down the rate of changes in that
tree in order to allow the translation teams time to finalize their work
and to avoid last-minute breakage for the 12.3-RELEASE.

Please note that the slush will not apply to website/ documents.

As usual, this is not a real freeze and requires no formal commit
approval procedure for your commit, but you are kindly requested not to
commit large, structural changes during that period.

Tagging of the doc tree is scheduled to take place on 29 October, 2021.

Hi,

This is what happens with translations: they are outdated most of time.
We are trying to find a simple way to mention it (everywhere, i.e., on
all translations).

Placeholders can be added for missing sections, but changing text is not
a good thing.
