HEADSUP: Call for FreeBSD Status Reports - 2Q/2012

2012-07-07 Thread Daniel Gerzo

Dear all,

I would like to remind you that the next round of status reports
covering the second quarter of 2012 are due on July 15th, 2012. As this
initiative is very popular among our users, I would like to
ask you to submit your entry as soon as possible, so that we can compile
the report in a timely fashion.

Do not hesitate and write us a few lines; a short description about
what you are working on, what your plans and goals are, or any other
information that you may consider interesting is always welcome. This
way we can inform our community about your great work!

Check out the reports from the past to get some inspiration of how
your submission might look like.

If you know about a project that should be included in the status
report, please let us know as well, so we can poke the responsible
people to provide us with something useful. Updates to submissions from
the previous reports are welcome too.

Note that the submissions are accepted from anyone involved within the
FreeBSD community, you do not have to be a FreeBSD committer. Anything
related to FreeBSD can be covered.

Please email us the filled-in XML template which can be found at
http://www.freebsd.org/news/status/report-sample.xml to
mont...@freebsd.org, or alternatively use our web based form located at
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/monthly.cgi.

For more information, please visit http://www.freebsd.org/news/status/.

We are looking forward to see your submissions!
Thanks.

REMAINDER: Call for FreeBSD Status Reports - 4Q/2011

2012-01-04 Thread Daniel Gerzo

Hello everybody,

I'd like to remind you that only ca. 10 days have left to the status
report submission deadline. Note that we have only received 4 entries so
far. I guess most of the people's holidays have finished by now so I
hope we will receive much more than that by January 15, 2012.

Thanks in advance!

PS: Happy New Year 2012!

I had a few requests to extend the deadline. If you have anything to
submit for the upcoming status report (which would be very welcome!),
please do so until Oct. 30th.

A note for the future: you will tend to receive more submissions if you
will make life a lot easier for submitter. The most natural way of using
the aforementioned Web form - as, surprise, a Web form (BTW, the field to
type in is too small and thus uncomfortable). That is, result of clicking
Submit button must be immediately sending info to central base, requiring
no further work from submitter to cut-n-paste the thing to e-mail. This
is just frightening to everyone who is not a FreeBSD committer, with regard
to needing to send this info to another e-mail which it suggests! (I was
told that in IRC, and fro where has the Joe Random Contributor to know this?)

We will have more docs when a contributor is not forced to efforts which are
unneeded. Having to do such things which could be easily done on server-side
looks just too unpolite for those who came in - and some of them will turn
away from sending.

P.S. This is general principle, not only for docs - forcing user to do
something which could be already done by maintainer turns away from the
system many of them.

Hello,

this is a reminder to anyone who's planning on sending a status report
to us. The submission deadline is 15th Sept 2010.

I know that many of you guys have spent last few days in Karlsruhe (and
I hope to receive some additional reports covering the
EuroBSDCon/DevSummit events), so that I understand that the reports
might still be on their way. I just wanted to note, that to this date we
have received only 5 entries.

Please, if you are planning to send your entry, let us know so we can at
least count with you and poke you if we don't receive it soon :)

[Fwd: HEADSUP: Call for FreeBSD Status Reports]

2009-10-04 Thread Daniel Gerzo

Hello guys,

I would like to remind you about the FreeBSD Status Reports. The
deadline is set to October 7th, and to date I have received only 5
reports, which is very little (considering the fact we are now covering
almost 6 months).

If you think you have anything to share with the community through the
status report entry, please email us at mont...@freebsd.org as soon as
possible. It really doesn't have to be a whole article, just a few lines
about what you are working on.

Thank you!

Dear all,

I would like to remind you to submit your status reports as soon as
possible. Long time has passed since the last status reports were
released; and surely a lot has had happened since then.

Our developers are relaxed after DevSummit and EuroBSDCon in Cambridge,
which both were great! I believe a lot of stuff has been discussed
during these events (I hope we will have reports covering this too) and
since the last report a lot of things have happened. During that time,
two other conferences have been held (BSDCan and AsiaBSDCon), we have
released 7.2, not to mention that 8.0 is behind the door. Google Summer
of Code should be finished by now too, and we would like to hear about
its results.
Surely there are a lot more projects which are currently being worked
on, so please do not hesitate and write us a few lines - a short
description about what you are working on, what are the plans and goals,
so we can inform our community about your great work! It's useful for
you as well as our users!

Please note, the submissions for this quarter (well...rather halfyear,
because we should now cover 4-9/2009) are due by October 7th, 2009.

Please post the filled-in XML template to be found at

Call for FreeBSD Status Reports

2007-01-07 Thread Max Laier
Hi,

and a good 2007 to everyone! It's time to reminisce about last year, in
particular about the last three month aka. forth quarter. This is the
call for Status Reports covering this timeframe! Submission due has just
been moved to January 14th.

Submissions must be in the report xml format. You can either use the
template[1] or the generator cgi[2]. Please mail the result of either to
monthly@ by January 14th. Every project related to FreeBSD should submit
a report. Past reports can be browsered from the Status Report
homepage[3]. Looking forward to your submissions!

I'd also like to remind you that the BSDCan Call for Papers ends at
January 19th. While you are writting a Status Report - consider
submitting a talk about your work, too!

Unfortunately we have a not too convincing turnout so far. There are - as

extending the deadline to Wednesday, April 12th.

Please remember that even small progress to you might be worth reporting.
Even if you didn't make progress at all it might help to expose your project

that.

Looking forward to your submissions. Thanks a lot.

This is a reminder that status reports are due. We are going to extend
the deadline until the 20th to encourage people to submit a few more
reports. If you have any projects that you've been working on in the
past 3 months that are interesting and you would like to share, please
submit a report as soon as possible. The new web form from Julian makes
it incredibly easy to generate a submission without having to know a
thing about XML. The link for this is at:

So, please submit your reports to [EMAIL PROTECTED] by the 20th.

Yes, I will add that. Send your reports! ;)

 www - FreeBSD web site

In my opinion, status reports about changes there fit the docs category.
Too fine-grained classification does not make too much sense here nor do I
except more than one or two reports in this category. This is why I think
it's justified to keep it merged with docs.

 advocacy- Spreading out the word

This one is a common dominator and idea behind the status reports. Special
advocacy events - such as conference announcement - should probably go to
misc where everybody will see them. I am not convinced that we need this
separately.

However, nothing is finally here, if people submit a lot foobar reports, we
will create a category for them.
