I had the same problem, and fixed it by setting up the right pair
IP/hostname in /etc/hosts. So, as Dimitry said it's most of a resolver
issue.

Maybe you can try ktrace(1) on the program, to see what it is doing
during its long startup. Usually, with things like this, it's some
sort of network problem, mostly DNS.

Weird problem with midnight commander (Freebsd 5.3)

2005-02-02 Thread Aleksander Rozman - Andy
Hi !
I am having weird problem. I have installed FreeBSD 5.3 on several
machines, and on two of those machines midnight commander has serious
problems. When I run it, it needs a long time to start, and I mean long,
about 5 minutes or so. Did anybody have a same problem? How did you fix it.
Oh one of those machines was fresh install, and other was update...

Midnight Commander

2004-09-28 Thread Igor Serikov
  Hello, World!
Can somebody explain me why Midnight Commander always says
"cannot chdir to ..." whenever I do something on his right panel? When I
switch pannels using Crtl+U command, the left panel gets into the same
trouble.

 Igor.

Re: Midnight Commander and FreeBDS

2000-03-11 Thread Victor Ivanov

FreeBDS? Is that some Bulgarian Standart or what ;^)

I think your question is not for this list.. But I want to say something
for the keyboard which involves midc.

I posted before a message with the same content.. but no response..
It is about two keyboard patches (kernel). The first sets the ALT key to
be META on AT keyboards (turns on the METAS1 flag). The seconds adds new
ioctl similar to KDGKBDSTATE, allowing users to get the shift keys state
(with a little patch for the mcedit shift+arrows work fine). I prefer vim
for editing but lots of people use mcedit (including my local users).

So.. what is the problem adding these to the config file or something?

It's a port. As root do the following ...

cd /usr/ports/x11-fm/gnomemc
make install

This is better asked on -questions ...
