Email sent from "at" command going to the wrong account
Hi, The "at" command sends an email with the output of the scheduled job. I've experienced inconsistent results when running jobs, receiving emails in accounts not associated with the user currently logged in. To reproduce in FreeBSD 7.2-RELEASE-p2 Case #1 login as user a (new shell through ssh) echo "echo 1" | at now --> user a will receive an email containing "1" - this is as expected Case #2 login as user a (new shell through ssh) login as user b exit echo "echo 1" | at now --> user b will receive an email containing "1" - this is not as expected, since I am user a again A look at the source for "at" reveals that "at" is getting the mailname from getlogin(). Running a small test program that outputs getlogin(), confirms the above behavior: A log-in and out of another account makes getlogin() return that account's name, even though the shell has been closed and we are back to the original shell and the original user a. Re: Email recommendations
Thanks, but it's not over NFS. The problem was occurring on the last server, different hardware and earlier versions of the same software. I was surprised that it showed up again after the upgrade. I've had everything from garbage at the top of mail files, to missing colons in the From lines, to bad temp pop files... I think the dragon may be multi-headed, so I'm looking for products that will be less quick to crash. At 06:02 PM 10/30/2006, Jeff Mohler wrote: Is your spool over NFS? If this is your own server, I'd recommend switching to Postfix and using Maildir for message storage. The problem with mbox format message stores is that only 1 process can be writing to the file, which stores *all* messages for a folder. If you are receiving a new message while deleting an existing one, all kinds of nasty things can happen. If you need POP3 (I'd recommend going with IMAP instead) then look at Courier, Dovecot, or Cyrus. They provide nice, fast, stable, Maildir-support with POP3 and IMAP daemons that access the same folders. Update to [EMAIL PROTECTED] v0.81
I feel so sorry to release two news at one day. The first opened version of [EMAIL PROTECTED](0.80-alpha) was released at 04/29/2005. And we just updated the newer version (v0.81) today. ver. 0.81: 1. Changes all initial & free functions. To avoid the error when free function try to call some uninitialed mutex when initial operations occured error. 2. Changes the init_dc function. Let user can change the setting of total DC size with the help of /etc/keta_conf/keta.conf while do not need to update the macro's definition of DC_SIZE. 3. Add valid checking process of socket list into receive thread. * Moreover I need some help about [EMAIL PROTECTED] v0.81's stability. [EMAIL PROTECTED] will malloc more than 300 MB momory in kmem_map when it starts. When I use BenchMark Factory to test it it has pretty stability and can run more than two days continuously. While if I use SPECWeb99 to test it it just can run 5-7 hours and OS gives following information and panic kmem_malloc(4096): kmem_map too small: 629145600 total allocated I know it is the panic information of kmem_malloc. After I trace the panic context using KDB I got that all panices are results of soaccept or sosend. I cannot get any ideas about the it. When using BF the OS has more 20-30% idle CPU time, while when using SPECweb99 it will be busy 100%. Is the pager daemon can not scheduled to collect something to free memory list? The performances of [EMAIL PROTECTED] v0.8-alpha
We use one server and several PCs to test [EMAIL PROTECTED]'s performances. The server has two Xeon 2.4GHz CPUs (disabled the hyperthread function), 2 GB DDR2 memory, one 37 GB 1 rpm SCSI hard disk and a Gigabit Ethernet network adaptor. Client PCs have a Pentium 4 2.0 GHz CPU, 512 DDR memory, one 40 GB 5400 rpm hard disk and an integrated 100 Mb Ethernet network adaptor. Testing tools are SPECweb99 and Benchmark Factory. We use SPECweb99 to experiment 300, 600 and 1000 simultaneous connections on four testing platforms including the [EMAIL PROTECTED] on FreeBSD v5.3, Apache v1.3.3 on FreeBSD v5.3, Apache v1.3.3 on Redhat Enterprise Linux v3.0, and TUX 3.2.14 on Redhat Enterprise Linux v3.0. All these environments setup and configure by default and without any optimization. [EMAIL PROTECTED] released!
We have designed and implemented a novel kernel web accelerator, named as [EMAIL PROTECTED], and released v0.8-alpha at openketa.sourceforge.net. It has similar function as TUX at Redhat. [EMAIL PROTECTED] has software pipeline architecture. It devides HTTP request process operation into several pipeline stages and uses defferent thread to do specified operation stage. It adapts to SMP platform. With one SMP server and 5 testing clients [EMAIL PROTECTED] can get better SPECweb99 performance than TUX. Currently [EMAIL PROTECTED] v0.80-alpha just implemented basic HTTP/1.1 protocol. We hope some volunteers can join us and get better OpenKeta. You can begin filling orders the same day you send E-mail. FREE ADVERTISING WORTH MILLIONS: It costs millions of dollars to mail. BULLET PROOF EMAIL ADDRESSES Did you know that if you plan to send out bulk email and you put your email address in the message you send out, your ISP could terminate that address? Even if you use a "disposable" email address like hotmail or yahoo, those addresses usually last 2 or 3 days before being shut down for Spam abuse. This happens even if you're bulking responsibly and not spamming! The end result is that you'll have wasted your time and money sending emails with a contact method that nobody can use anymore so you'll lose all the potential sales that were trying to get a hold of you using your email address that was disconnected for Spam abuse. The solution is easy. We now offer bulk friendly, bulletproof email addresses that CANNOT be terminated for sending out Spam. At only $169 per month this is a tool that no bulk mailer can be without. Order yours today using the form below. BULK EMAIL SENDING SERVICE There are lots of great bulk email programs available on the web today, which allow you to send bulk email with ease, some of them with "stealth" capabilities. But did you know that you're still at the mercy of the speed of proxy/open relay servers and your Internet connection. Sometimes that means that you're lucky to send out 30,000 emails per day! Not a very good number when it takes millions of emails to get a decent result. Remember, you're not the only person on the Internet sending out bulk email. With our bulk email sending service, you can send up to 100 million emails per month at prices as low as $99 per million. changing the way mail spools are permissioned (for using web-based email service)
I'm currently messing around with neomail, and it seems to do everything I need it to, but it doesn't read the mail spools properly. It needs to establish a write lock on /var/mail/. I currently have the script set to run suid/sgid 'mail', but all the spools are set to user:logingroup for ownership. Since some users have different login groups than others; this convention leaves me with two possible options, (as I see it anyhow -suggestions welcomed): 1 - change neomail too be run as suid root, which leaves me sceptical as to it's security; should something screw up I could have a big problem on my hands. 2 - (prefered), change sendmail to have all the mail spools as group writeable for the group 'mail'. This is the way I'd prefer to do things, but I have little to no clue as to exactly how to accomplish this. Seeing as how the machine this is being done on is in production, and under constant use; downtime is also an issue; (If I change it, and something else don't work...I better have it back the way it was, and quickly so). Any comments, suggestions, or otherwise would be greatly appreciated. For the record, my system information is as follows: Running: FreeBSD 4.1-2729-STABLE (no, I don't want to cvsup/update the machine...it works fine now, and that would cause downtime) Sendmail version: ESMTP Sendmail 8.9.3/8.9.3; Wed, 13 Dec 2000 13:38:08 -0500 (EST) -- Nathan Vidican [EMAIL PROTECTED] Windsor Match Plate & Tool Ltd. http://www.wmptl.com/ To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe freebsd-hackers" in the body of the message

In the last couple days, I could not sent nor recieve email from outside server(Internet) but I can recieve email from any other server in the domain(local). Is it possible that the network administrator put firewall so that my server cannot send or recieve email?(external problems) Or Is it somethiing wrong with the configuration?(internal problems) -- I made a special directory that have all the avaiable commands for the user, so the user cannot acces "/bin /sbin /usr/bin /usr/sbin etc..." but I made copy all the necesary files to the directory where users can access it(/home/commands). thank you Kyky_2000 __ Do You Yahoo!?
