Am not positive, why don't you test it and see? Was there a change that had
been proposed to fix this?

Thanks,

Dear Jack

Is the problem related to link loss fixed in this version?
The problem was that if if_snd fills up during a "link_active == 0"
period, stack never calls em_start again, because em does not
kick off tx when link becomes active again.

I suspect different SCMs here is causing terminology confusion. RELENG_8
is the CVS version of the stable/8 branch in SVN.

Normally, except I have real world customers that have explicitly told me
they
needed something in 8.3 whereas no one has said they cared about stable/9,
that's why I did it first, I've never been aware that there was some
'trickle-down'
hierarchy, have always assumed its head or its stable :)

Err, normally things are merged to newer branches first (e.g. 9 before 8,
HEAD before stable, etc.).

Can you grab two snapshots after sending some traffic to it? You have several
non-zero error counters, but it would be good to see which ones are changing
while you are in this state.

em0 hangs on 8-STABLE again

2012-01-29 Thread Lev Serebryakov
Hello, Freebsd-net.

My home server lost connection on em0 this night again. It was
persistent problem some times ago, but with version 7.2.3 it is first
time, but with worse symptoms.

It looks like undetected hardware hang-up: no packets could be sent
or received, and no any output in dmesg or log files. Interface
up/down with ifconfig and cable unplugging doesn't help: ifaces sees
all these changes, but no packets could be sent/received anyway. I
was forced to reboot server to make it work again.

IT is rather old 8-STABLE (Oct 2011), but it sems, that last change
in e1000 for 8-STABLE was r223675, in Jun 2011, so it is "fresh"
sources (I don't believe, that r229147 is related).

Output of `sysctl dev.em' when card is not working (but after some up/down
events) is attached.

 NIC is:
