Re: Updating perl entries in make.conf (via package)
Quoting Peter Losher [EMAIL PROTECTED] (from Sun, 14 Jan 2007 19:29:25 -0800): Hi, I am updating several 5.x machines, and in the process updating the perl packages from 5.6.x to 5.8.x. What I have noticed is that if you are installing a package on a new system, the package installs the symlinks in /usr/bin and puts the Perl env variables in /etc/make.conf (as expected). However, when updating (via pkg_delete -a, then pkg_add or portupgrade) the symlinks aren't maintained and the perl variables are not modified. And the use.perl script seems to no longer exist (or I'd just have portupgrade run 'use.perl port' after updating the perl package) Is there a new/better way that perl is updated via packages so that the symlinks are maintained and the entries in /etc/make.conf are updated with the new perl version? While we are at it: I want to add that updating stuff in/usr/bin fails with a read-only base system. In my case I have jails where the basesystem is a RO nullfs mount. It is shared between all jails. In case someone wants to reproduce it, you just have to use ezjails (it is in the ports collection) to create jails. You just need to add a path with enough free space to the config, add an additional IP to the machine and then run ezjail-admin create ... (please consult the man page for options to use a prebuild world and how specify the IP to use). Current unassigned ports problem reports
Current FreeBSD problem reports The following is a listing of current problems submitted by FreeBSD users. These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. r - repocopy The resolution of the problem report is dependent on a repocopy operation within the CVS repository which is awaiting completion. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. I've put a knob in the port to disable building and installing MIT's KRB5 documentation. Do people prefer to have the documentation installed by default with MIT KRB5 or would folks rather have the documentation only installed when specified in a make option? Ideally you should provide a separate port krb5-doc, so that people do not need to rebuild krb5 if they want to install the documentation. Moreover, it would allow to install the documentation from a package. -- Jean-Yves Lefort [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lefort.be.eu.org/ pgpo6ZPjJbJcR.pgp Description: PGP signature
Re: rcorder doesn't apply to ports startup scripts in 6.0?

It shouldn't break existing systems, as the scripts are still run in alphabetical order on the 6.0 systems before revision 1.336.2.1 of /etc/rc. Which scripts are breaking? Everything that depends upon mysql or postgres, on all of our 6.0 systems. Any simple way to patch rcorder into 6.0 to avoid this? You could also consider renaming the scripts so they start early enough (i.e. the ugly hack we used to use for this purpose :). Help with porting Flamenco
Hi, I am a library student and FreeBSD newbie trying to install Flamenco http://flamenco.berkeley.edu/index.html, an open source faceted interface developed at Berkeley and currently hosted on Sourceforge. It says in their documentation, Please note that we have only tested the code on the Linux OS (Red Hat 2.4.21), and I've run into a few Linux-specific commands I've had to alter, such as replacing cp -a with cp -pRP. It seems I've been able to get Flamenco most of the way installed. Where I'm running into difficulty is in importing data. The only requirements stated in the documentation are: * Python version 2.3 or higher * A web server such as Apache that runs CGI scripts * Access to an ODBC-compliant DBMS such as MySQL I'd be very grateful for any assistance you can offer in porting this application. Check out the Flamenco demos http://flamenco.berkeley.edu/demos.html -- I think you'll agree that it's worth having this software work on FreeBSD.
