Ports tree is now frozen.

HEADS UP: Ports freeze coming in 15 minutes

2007-05-03 Thread Joe Marcus Clarke
I will be freezing the ports tree in 15 minutes in preparation for the
X.Org 7.2 merge. The merge will not happen right away. Instead, we
will enter a period of testing as per Kris' email. During this freeze
only portmgr, and those working on the X.Org merge will be allowed to
commit.

Ok, so I have reviewed the code and the command line parsing is a bit
odd... It separates options to commands and flags. -ui is a flag,
which is not entirely obvious. Options which seem to be interpreted as
commands are -sl, -slid, -s, -u, -v or category/port. Other options are
treated as flags -l, -ui, --resume, etc...

So, "portmanager -u -ui" seems to do what you want. I might break down
and rework the parsing code eventually, as I have had other complaints
about the way options are handled...

No, I have not made any real changes since I took over the port. Most
all of my efforts have just been to keep it current and address bugs
that show up.

that's randomly right :) mine is the shortcut to Rome and your's the other way
around the globe ...

anyway it shows clearly that no port installs the required files into the
place where dia looks them up

means or gtk-2 installes them into the wrong path or dia looks in the wrong
place

there is nothing wrong with my english, I guess you are just used to handle
slower people :) ... I just spared you and the list from getting hundreds of
lines in there email's, but here the shortform:

pkg_info -L `pkg_info -r dia-\* | awk '{print $2}'` | grep libgdk-x11
/usr/local/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.a
/usr/local/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.la
/usr/local/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so
/usr/local/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0

so there is no reason at all that dia looks and depends
on /usr/X11R6/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.la

or is this still my computer who tweaks it?
ah, almost forgot it, all dependencies were and are rebuild

And it's virtually impossible to make a clean pkg-plist if a port/pkg needs to
put stuff in *both* LOCALBASE and X11BASE. Let alone make it PREFIX safe (you
have to choose either as default and cwd to the other halfway the plist).

/usr/X11R6 was a long standing bug about to be fixed once and for all. IIRC it
originated from fixed paths in the old XFree. It won't be missed or
mourned :)

Probably it is because English is not your first language, but you
really did not follow my instructions.

If you had followed them, your email would contain the results of your
grep -r command. This command would show which ports refer to the
incorrect /usr/X11R6 location, and I would have helped you to figure
out which ports they belong to. Rebuilding those ports is all that is
necessary to fix your problem, but first you have to identify which
ports they are.

By doing the ln -s you worked around the problem but didn't solve it.

well
as you can see gtk2 is installing them into /usr/local/lib

but some ports are looking in /usr/X11R6/lib

that is the reason we I am saying that the is something wrong in some port
configurations

Right, my suggestion quoted at the top of this email was an
instruction for figuring out which these "some ports" are.

A version dependant directory structure hasn't been a good idea in the first
place. No one was really able to tell weather to put a port into /usr/X11R6 or
/usr/local anyway.

It's missing a dependency. Look at the original source's website because

Thanks for the hint, but I couldn't find any information on required
libraries as the vlc-folks havn't updated this list when I took a look...

I did got it to compile though. Apparently it required a newer version
of ffmpeg-devel. I fixed that and now it works :-)

Thanks anyway.

# pkg_info -L gtk-2\* | grep libgdk-x11

/usr/local/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0

this files are not beeing installed in /usr/X11R6/lib

but some ports are looking there and not in /usr/local/lib

multiple versions of docbook et al.

2007-05-03 Thread David J Brooks
While doing some pruning on my ports I noticed these:
docbook-1.3: ok
docbook-241_2: ok
docbook-3.0_2: ok
docbook-3.1_2: ok
docbook-4.0_2: ok
docbook-4.1_2: ok
docbook-4.2: ok
docbook-xml-4.2_1: ok
docbook-xml-4.3: ok
docbook-xml-4.4: ok

Do I _really_ need all those versions of docbook(-xml) ? Is there any
compelling reason not to remove all but the latest versions and use pkgdf -f
to point everything else to those?

Apache 2.2 + mod_auth_pam + PAM

2007-05-03 Thread Jonathan Weiss

Cheers,

I'm struggeling with setting up Apache 2.2 and mod_auth_pam to
authenticate an BasicAuth directory against my local unix users.

Apache is using PAM in so far as when I have his /etc/pam.d/httpd config:

auth required pam_permit.so debug
accountrequired pam_permit.so debug

It works fine, so the user gets an Auth login window and the login works
(because of pam_permit.so).

With the real thing (pam_unix.so instead of pam_permit.so) I get:

PAM: user 'jweiss' - not authenticated: authentication error

The www user has read rights to /etc/master.passwd and /etc/spwd.db

# ll /etc/spwd.db
40 -rw-r- 1 root www40K May 2 20:40 /etc/spwd.db

# ll /etc/master.passwd
4 -rw-r- 1 root www 2.1K May 2 20:40 /etc/master.passwd

Is this not enough for PAM to check a login/password?

Also it seems that the 'debug' statement in /etc/pam.d/httpd is ignored
as I do not get more output in /var/log/messages with it present.

Does anybody have a hint?

Thanks,
Jonathan
