Dealing with a port being merged into another
Hi everyone, One of the changes we (kde@) have made in the upcoming Qt 5.3.2 update is merging devel/qt5-qmldevtools into lang/qt5-qml. I'd now like to know what needs to be done to make it easy to everyone to upgrade their ports. By everyone I mean people using pkg as well as people using port{master, upgrade, whatnot}, and by make it easy I mean I don't want to have to write an UPDATING entry (that many people will not read) that tells people they need to manually remove qt5-qmldevtools from their systems before upgrading. Do I need CONFLICTS_INSTALL? Will everything be handled automatically? Is the UPDATING entry inevitable? ___ freebsd-ports@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ports To unsubscribe, send any mail to freebsd-ports-unsubscr...@freebsd.org

I had never before built the eclipse port on a -CURRENT machine, so I set up a -CURRENT i386 VM in VirtualBox with 2Gb RAM, 30 GB disk space, did a pkg install of eclipse 4.3.2_1 that currently is available (to get all the build/run dependencies installed), and then did a make package of the eclipse 4.3.2_2 in the ports tree. One hour later, I had a eclipse package ready to install, no out of memory errors or any other problem. From posts on the Eclipse Wiki's, building Eclipse with only 2Gb of RAM seems to running pretty close to the lower limit needed. I have managed to build with -Xmx1536m, but that's a low as I dare go; suggestions on the Eclipse Wiki for building Eclipse 4.4 recommend setting -Xmx2560m. I don't know anything about poudriere really, having never used it until my attempt last week. Hi! Please try removing firebird25-client before building it. For some reason, it is linking with the old version. Re: www/linux-firefox package doesn't work
I'm going to answer in reverse! Well, you see, at this point in time, I'm in trouble solving mode. Do you have a spare HDD? Even old, out-dated or temporarily borrowed? Just hit that spare HDD with 10.1, linux-c6 and whatever else as trial. Why? Because, * new_xorg is now default in ports (you probably have old xorg) * many previous make.conf settings are now out-dated and you need to review /usr/ports/Mk/*. Sorry, just part of life. * why www/linux-firefox instead of just plain www/firefox? Your question is by default based on the perspective of older ports incompatibility work-arounds. * desktop users must keep their systems much more current than server systems, because the graphics environment improves at a much faster pace than server-side. This sounds (I know that it might not be intended that way) like you saying only poudriere jails are supported; portupgrade and portmaster are not. Your description is mostly true. pkgng is now the norm and portupgrade/portmaster run into problems with higher versions. If you take the leap to 10, make sure you understand pkgng repos or/and poudriere. tingo@kg-core1$ linux-firefox -safe-mode firefox: Fatal IO error 12 (Cannot allocate memory) on X server :0.0. I really don't know why it complains about memory; this machine has 32 GB RAM, and currently only 12.6 GB is used. Had a similar (?) mmeory problem with all mozilla-based ports (but non linux-*): http://freebsd.1045724.n5.nabble.com/shmget-No-space-left-on-device-issue-with-firefox-td5938162.html The problem is cleared now and although not working perfectly, at least I have some measure of sanity. The solution had nothing to do with memory, it was a ports issue. If a certified idiot like me has it working on 11, you can probably feel confident about trying on 10.1 The forums are active again, so I'll see you around... - FreeBSD-11-current_amd64_root-on-zfs_RadeonKMS -- View this message in context: http://freebsd.1045724.n5.nabble.com/www-linux-firefox-package-doesn-t-work-tp5958723p5959040.html Sent from the freebsd-ports mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ freebsd-ports@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ports To unsubscribe, send any mail to freebsd-ports-unsubscr...@freebsd.org
