Stepping down from my ports

2010-08-06 Thread Frank Steinborn
Dear porters,

unfortunately I need to step down from all the FreeBSD
ports that I currently maintain, namely:

audio/ices0
audio/linux-shoutcast
audio/shoutcast
benchmarks/nbench
devel/libgee
games/avanor
games/crimson
games/wrogue
irc/minbif
misc/apparix
multimedia/gpodder
net-im/pino
net-mgmt/nagios-check_ice
net-mgmt/nagios-check_nick
net-mgmt/nipper
net/p5-Event-tcp
security/py-otr

Sorry - I don't take this easily. I really enjoyed working with the
community but due to a new employment and many other changes in my
life I'm currenty too much under water to find the time to maintain
these.

I don't like stupidly approving patches from people that would be
better maintainers than me anyway...

I will keep maintaining comms/p5-SMS-SMS77 because upstream stopped
development and I heavily depend on this port.

I surely will be back some day picking up a port here and there, but
for now: pleae pick up these small, poor ports and treat them with
love :)

Thanks,
Frank

Re: [Call For Testing] New version - aMSN-0.98.1

 Hi folks,

I would like to invite everyone to test the newest version of aMSN.
This version has support for video conferencing and audio conferencing, is
using tk and tcl 8.6 with support for threads.

Running fine here for the last 24 hours and I'm forced to be a heavy
msn-user. Everything is functional, video-call is fine too (but only
incoming, don't have a cam myself).

Thanks for it, I might even switch from emesene.

net-mgmt/nrpe(2)

2009-04-10 Thread Frank Steinborn
Hi,

I want to propose that net-mgmt/nrpe2 gets net-mgmt/nrpe, and that the
actual net-mgmt/nrpe port gets removed. I strongly doubt that there
are still users of nrpe 1.

In the current situation, there are a lot of confusions: If you get
nrpe from source, (version 2.12), it'll install check_nrpe and the
nrpe deamon. If you use the one provided from ports, they are called
check_nrpe2 and the daemon is called nrpe2.

I got into this trap - I was running the wrong (old) nrpe for weeks,
and when it came to failover monitoring I just realized that my nrpe
version is just, well, outdated.

What do you think?

Cheers,
Frank

anacron: suggest adding an entry in /etc/crontab in pkg-message.in

2007-06-17 Thread Frank Steinborn
Hi,

the pkg-message.in from the anacron-port is incomplete, IMO. It shows
this:

- Edit %%PREFIX%%/etc/anacrontab
- Deactivate the 'periodic' commands in /etc/crontab
- Add anacron_enable=YES to /etc/rc.conf
- Read anacron(8) and anacrontab(5)

The problem is that anacron will just execute one time, namely when
the machine is booted. The maintainance-scripts would never run again,
then.

I suggest adding the following line to pkg-message.in before Add
anacron_enable=YES to /etc/rc.conf:

- Add an entry for anacron in /etc/crontab for the early morning hours

What do you think?

mysql41-server's rc.d script broken?

2006-12-19 Thread Frank Steinborn
Hello,

just upgraded from mysql-server-4.1.20 to 4.1.22 and noticed that the
rc.d script isn't working anymore. Doh.

# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/mysql-server start
Starting mysql.

# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/mysql-server status
mysql is not running.

If I run mysqld_safe directly mysqld starts as expected. I had a look
into the script but could not find the source of the problem. I'm not
sure if that's a misconfiguration just on my site - anyone else seeing
this?

OK - I just edited the script so that it won't send mysqld_safe's
output to /dev/null and got the following:

Starting mysql.
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/db/mysql
STOPPING server from pid file /var/db/mysql/shodan.nognu.de.pid
061220 04:05:50 mysqld ended

/var/db/mysql/shodan.nognu.de.err says this:

061220 04:04:03 mysqld started
061220 4:04:03 [ERROR] Can't find messagefile
'/usr/local/share/mysql/english/errmsg.sys'
061220 4:04:03 [ERROR] Aborting

Strange. /usr/local/share/mysql/english/errmsg.sys is there and mysqld
just starts fine if I start it manually. Any clues are welcome.

When you run the script, mysqld_safe is run as the mysql user.

What happens when you run mysqld_safe as the mysql user?

Does the mysql user have read access to this file (including sub
 directories leading to the file)?

 Scot

Scot,

it was a permission issue indeed. I had a too strong umask when
portupgrading mysql-server. Sorry for the wind.

Thanks,
Frank

Please report the problem to [EMAIL PROTECTED] [maintainer] and attach the
/usr/ports/textproc/wv/work/wv-1.2.1/config.log including the output of the
failure of your make command. Also, it might be a good idea to provide an
overview of all packages installed on your system (e.g. an `ls /var/db/pkg`).

There is more info needed. Please post the last lines (15 should be fine) from

Thats the problem, a newer version of libgsf it needed. Please upgrade
it first, libgsf-1.14.1 is in ports.
