That Error 137 is "signal 9 (SIGKILL)" and added 128 for "core dump
requested". Typically an indication of a last-resort cleanup by the
kernel.

Has the machine run out of memory during the compile?

Can you reduce the number of CPU cores used for the compile, in an
attempt to reduce RAM usage?

You were right about the memory usage during the compilation. The
system is
an old one and has only 512 MB RAM and one CPU core. During compilation
of
openjdk8 it run out of memory. The swap file, which is 512 MB as well,
was

completely used. Shortly after this state was reached, the above error
message appeared, but the system __did not__ freeze.

The bad part is that I cannot upgrade the old system totally. The good
part
is that all other programs could be updated without any problem. Many
thnx

to the good work of the FreeBSD community. I really appreciate this.

I like to test some things on this rejuvenated beast and probably I
don't
need openjdk8 for that. So I can live with the situation. I only
announced

it, so that other people do not run into the same situation. But who is
running a FreeBSD system with 512 MB RAM nowadays anyway?

If you really want to try and build it on that system and have some free
disk

space you could always add a file instead of a partition as extra swap.

Or maybe raw sockets, although that's probably less likely.

Enabling each did not change the problem. I still see multiple lines
like this in Mailman's logs:

Apr 21 14:06:45 2016 (70072) Low level smtp error: [Errno 61]

and nothing in /var/log/maillog

A long time ago I setup mailman with postfix but not in a jail, from
my notes here is all I had in

/usr/local/mailman/Mailman/mm_cfg.py

IMAGE_LOGOS = '/icons/'
add_virtualhost('lists.foo.com', 'lists.foo.com')
POSTFIX_STYLE_VIRTUAL_DOMAINS = ['lists.foo.com']
DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST = 'lists.foo.com'
DEFAULT_URL_HOST = 'lists.foo.com'
MTA = 'Postfix'

If you look at /usr/local/etc/mailman/Mailman/Defaults.py and you
haven't changed the directives below in in mm_cfg.py then they are

DELIVERY_MODULE = 'SMTPDirect'
SMTPHOST = 'localhost'

Could it be as simple as postfix is not listening on port 25?

Can you 'telnet localhost 25' and "telnet 25'
sucessfully?

Yet all the CVE's reported by "pkg audit" have been fixed according to

This would seem to me that vuxml is not current as of the current

Meanwhile, I could catch the situation with the failing gengal.bin for

process exit, rval = 1

I have from the situation the following data:

- complete args and environment for gengal.bin
- the above visible XML file services.rdb
- the complete truss file

The failing code in gengal.cxx is this

void GalApp::Init()
{
try {
if( !mbInBuildTree && getenv( "OOO_INSTALL_PREFIX" ) == NULL )
{

OUString fileName = GetAppFileName();
int lastSlash = fileName.lastIndexOf( '/' );
#ifdef WNT
// Don't know which directory separators GetAppFileName()
// returns on Windows.
// Be safe and take into consideration they might be
// backslashes.
if( fileName.lastIndexOf( '\\' ) > lastSlash )
lastSlash = fileName.lastIndexOf( '\\' );
#endif
OUString baseBinDir = fileName.copy( 0, lastSlash );
OUString installPrefix = baseBinDir + "/../..";

OUString envVar( "OOO_INSTALL_PREFIX");
osl_setEnvironment(envVar.pData, installPrefix.pData);
}
OSL_TRACE( "OOO_INSTALL_PREFIX=%s", getenv(
"OOO_INSTALL_PREFIX"

) );

uno::Reference xComponentContext
= ::cppu::defaultBootstrap_InitialComponentContext();
xMSF = uno::Reference
( xComponentContext->getServiceManager(), uno::UNO_QUERY );
if( !xMSF.is() )
{
fprintf( stderr, "Failed to bootstrap\n" );
exit( 1 );
}
::comphelper::setProcessServiceFactory( xMSF );

// For backwards compatibility, in case some code still uses
// plain
// createInstance w/o args directly to obtain an instance:

com::sun::star::ucb::UniversalContentBroker::create(xComponentContext);

} catch (const uno::Exception ) {
fprintf( stderr, "Bootstrap exception '%s'\n",

And I can very easy reproduce the problem by just un-taring a saved
work/ dir into a stopped jail, if someone with more C++ and libreoffice
knowledge is willing to investigate this.

Just drop me a line. Thanks

matthias

I could save the workspace and it shows that the two mentioned files
are

zero sized:

# ls -l libreoffice-5.0.3.2/workdir/Gallery/arrows/arrows.*
-rw-r--r--  1 guru  wheel  0 Dec 13 21:48
libreoffice-5.0.3.2/workdir/Gallery/arrows/arrows.sdv
-rw-r--r--  1 guru  wheel  0 Dec 13 21:48
libreoffice-5.0.3.2/workdir/Gallery/arrows/arrows.thm

the files are generated by some tool 'gengal'

libreoffice-5.0.3.2/svx/source/gengal
libreoffice-5.0.3.2/svx/source/gengal/gengal.sh
libreoffice-5.0.3.2/svx/source/gengal/gengal.cxx

The shell script gengal.sh is not used;

I was unable to use 'poudriere testport ...' with this the make cores
at

some earlier point.

I've built it again the port within podriere mit more verbosity; the
failing part is this:

Can you run pkg -o DEBUG_LEVEL=4 upgrade
and send me the output (be careful this will be verbose)

This is probably due to icu update somehow, as libreoffice and chrome
will not

work without being themselves upgraded but you locked them.

Probably the answer of removing them is bad and we should just stop the
processing saying we cannot go further without you unlocking the said
packages.

Best regards,
Bapt

Unfortunately we went ahead with the upgrade. I will send the output if
I can

reproduce it on another machine.

Thank you.

nvida Go 7300 working - WAS: Removal of XAA acceleration in X.org, and older NVIDIA GeForce

Actually it did not turn out well. Although nvidia-driver-304 with
a GeForce 7300 GT does not suffer from slow scrolls and slow rendering
of web pages, it frequently stalls (like every minute) and nothing
happens for a dozen of seconds: mouse cannot move a cursor, a cursor
may even temporarily disappear, typing on an xterm or konsole window
is unresponsive. It appears as if a host is terribly busy, even though
it is not (the yesterday's poudriere build was over, and I even
rebooted the host, with nvidia driver loaded by a boot loader
this time).

After a dozen of seconds or so, things get back at being responsive
again, until the next lockup. Occasionally a window may become
scrambled, but rectifies itself after a while. After trying to
work in this situation for a while, eventually screen turned black,
with a host totally locked up - not even responding to ssh or ping
or ctrl alt F1, or a soft ACPI power off button, so had to be
forcibly rebooted.

So in the end I had to revert back to the NV driver, which is
now slow, but at least is stable and consistent. I guess we need
to start looking for a new graphics board, quite unfortunate.

  Mark

FWIW on i386 current r275874 I do no have these lockup issues
with nvidia GeForce Go 7300

I did find that though loading the nvidia kernel module in

Ok, I built archivers/zoo, pkg update and pkg install. Looks ok know.

I'll let it build my pkg list for head/10/9 with a few new packages and
report back it I see any problems.

RE: Removal of legacy X.Org (aka non-WITH_NEW_XORG)

2014-10-03 Thread Michael Jung
I hope this may be an additional data point.

I also had grave issues with NEW_XORG. When I did experience a problem 99% of
the
time the computer locked up. My uptime was never more than a 24 hour period.
No crash dumps, black screen, no keyboard light activity in toggling caps lock.

However, on occasion Xorg would loop as reported in
http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-current/2014-June/050690.html

I finally noticed that Xorg was complaining about xfdevhw not being
available and so I installed the port. Since then zero lockups. I left
the machine run with no additional update or changes for over one week without
issue, and have since that time been updating Xorg and drivers without issue
short
of having to always re-install xf86-input-keyboard (and in past both
xf86-input-keyboard
and xf86-input-mouse).

My current Xorg.log reports

[ 486.836] (II) Loading sub module fbdevhw
[   486.836] (II) LoadModule: fbdevhw
[   486.836] (II) Loading /usr/local/lib/xorg/modules/libfbdevhw.so
[ 486.836] (EE) LoadModule: Module fbdevhw does not have a fbdevhwModuleData
data object.

[ 486.836] (EE) Failed to load module fbdevhw (invalid module, 0)
[ 486.836] (WW) Falling back to old probe method for fbdev

so why this apparently made a difference I do not understand.

I am by no means an expert and this may not be relevant at all but this seems
to be the right
audience. This was my course of events and X11 still is working great for me.

I can supply any additional information if requested, I am on X.Org X Server
1.12.4 / 10.1-BETA1

 NVIDIA does not exist in your world ?

 Hi!

 You're right, we forgot to mention NVIDIA.

 The NVIDIA port installs its own bits from the kernel module to the
 specific libGL.so. The notion of UMS/KMS doesn't exist and the port is
 made to work with all versions of FreeBSD and X.Org server. Therefore,
 NVIDIA users are not impacted by this change at all.

I think that old X stack should not be dropped until at least, GPU
locking problem is resolved, what we can say about Xorg stability under
FreeBSD if one should reset one's desktop every week or so with lots of
lost files? I cannot really use KMS drivers at all because of this
problem. I've lost enough data while trying to test radeon kms, and I
cannot switch from old xorg to new one. Is it possible to build new xorg
without kms and with old radeon driver?

We have not had any feedback on this yet and want to get it enabled by
default for ports and packages.

We now have a repository that you can use rather than the default to
help test. We need your help to identify any issues before switching
the

default.

This repository is available for:

head

9.1,9.2,9.3

It is not available for 8.4. If someone is willing to test on 8.4 I
will

build a repository for it.

Place this in /usr/local/etc/pkgs/repos/FreeBSD_ssp.conf:

FreeBSD: { enabled: no }
FreeBSD_ssp: {
  url: pkg+http://pkg.FreeBSD.org/${ABI}/ssp;,
  mirror_type: srv,
  signature_type: fingerprints,
  fingerprints: /usr/share/keys/pkg,
  enabled: yes
}

Once that is done you should force reinstall packages from this
repository:

  pkg update
  pkg upgrade -f

On behalf of portmgr.

I have been building (poudriere) and running some 1100+ ports
WITH_SSP_PORT=yes under 10-STABLE and CURRENT without issue. This is
using both our local repository and the ssp repository listed above.

A lot of the reason is just the way poudriere handles looking up
dependencies. I'm willing to explore moving this fatal error such that
the port is just listed as FAILED and anything depending on it is
SKIPPED. There's currently no way to do that without more logic.

This sort of error hits the package build system quite often. When
someone breaks INDEX they also break package building because of this
error. I am more and more convinced that we should not consider these
immediately fatal.

However, we should also consider a threshold feature such that too many
failures for bulk will cause the set to not be published. 3.1 adds a
feature called atomic package repository that builds packages outside
of the normal repository dir. Once the build is done the packages are
synced over. I added a way to prevent publishing the set if ANYTHING
fails, but it's not using a threshold yet. I'll improve that.

This will have to wait until after 3.1 though. It will be releasing
once

I find time to focus on getting it out.

poudriere bulk - why does it fail on single package with missing port origin?

2014-09-11 Thread Michael Jung
Why does poudriere bulk need to bail because a single package has a
missing port origin and not continue to build other packages in the
package list?

If I remove x11/mate from my package list poudriere rocks on building
all my other ports.

The missing origin is a RUN_DEPENDS in the x11/mate Makefile, but that
dependency should only be for x11/mate right?

I can't seem to find a good explanation in the general man pages or
searching the web.

Educate me please ;-)

Subject: Pkg 1.3.7 out. Special handling recommended to avoid reinstalls.

Pkg 1.3.7 is now released. The port is updated. pkg.FreeBSD.org packages
are now published with fixed shared libraries.

It was found that 'pkg update -f' may be required as well.

Here are the updated instructions:

- Binary package users should run 'pkg update -f' and 'pkg check -Ba'
after upgrading to pkg-1.3.7 and before updating any other packages.
This avoids needing to reinstall anything not needed due to changed
shared libraries.
   For binary package users:
# pkg install ports-mgmt/pkg
# pkg update -f
# pkg check -Ba
# pkg upgrade
   For port users:
# portsnap fetch update
# make -C /usr/ports/ports-mgmt/pkg build deinstall install clean
# pkg check -Ba
- People building packages for serving to other systems need to rebuild
  all packages with 1.3.7.

NIX THIS!

Damn, I ran this on a box with the SSP repository configured. Hope no-one
wasted any time on this.

Pkg has updated on numerous other machines without incident.

Support may be added for earlier i386 releases once all ports

To enable, just add WITH_SSP=yes to your make.conf and rebuild all
ports.

The default SSP_CLFAGS is -fstack-protector, but
-fstack-protector-all

may optionally be set instead.

Please help test this on your system. We would like to eventually

this by default, but need to identify any major ports that have
run-time

issues due to it.

We have not had any feedback on this yet and want to get it enabled
by

default for ports and packages.

We now have a repository that you can use rather than the default to
help test. We need your help to identify any issues before switching
the

default.

This repository is available for:

head
10.0
9.1,9.2,9.3

It is not available for 8.4. If someone is willing to test on 8.4 I
will

build a repository for it.

Place this in /usr/local/etc/pkgs/repos/FreeBSD_ssp.conf:

FreeBSD: { enabled: no }
FreeBSD_ssp: {
  url: pkg+http://pkg.FreeBSD.org/${ABI}/ssp;,
  mirror_type: srv,
  signature_type: fingerprints,
  fingerprints: /usr/share/keys/pkg,
  enabled: yes
}

Once that is done you should force reinstall packages from this
repository:

  pkg update
  pkg upgrade -f

It looks like the (SSP) freebsd:10:x86:64 freebsd:11:x86:32
repositories

are stale from a month ago. Looking into why.

Sadly this was not noticed and the instructions effectively will
downgrade packages. These 2 repositories have pkg-1.2 still as well.

Bryan,

Any update? As you probably expect if I build the port locally with
poudriere and install there is no issue. I'm building with

WITH_SSP_PORTS=YES

in /etc/make.conf
