Subject: IMAP stealing mails from POP3 server (Squirrelmail)

Hi,
I'm running a FreeBSD 4.7 STABLE server with qpopper 4.0.4, Squirrelmail
1.2.11 and imap-uw-2002_1 together with other things such as Apache and
Proftpd. For outgoing mail I'm using Sendmail and normal FreeBSD mail (not
maildir).

I'm mainly using POP3 for fetching my emails, but when I'm out travelling
I'd like to be using Squirrelmail. Therefore I installed IMAP-UW and
Squirrelmail a while back. Everything works perfect except for one thing:

When I'm logged into Squirrelmail and a new mail arrives. Squirrelmail
shows it and I can do what I want with it. However, when I try to download
it later with my POP3 account it's not there... but it's in Squirrelmail!
My guess is that IMAP steals it from my POP3 server. The first server to
open an email gets it. Is this correct?

How can I use both Squirrelmail with IMAP (which it requires) and a POP3
server together and can this be fixed with my configuration?

Thanks!
Andreas

Re: imap

2003-06-13 Thread Alfonso Romero
Yep, like G D says, you have to deinstall imap-uw and cclient, and then
compile first cclient, then imap-uw with the WITHOUT_SSL=yes option.

It took me a week to find out this was the problem!

Two DNS servers with one IP address

2003-06-17 Thread Alfonso Romero
Is it possible to have two DNS servers with only one public IP address? I have a
FreeBSD gateway connected to the Internet with a DSL modem, using natd to connect the
other PCs on my LAN, and was wondering if I could have two DNS servers to register
domain names.

Creating an additional DNS zone file

2003-06-19 Thread Alfonso Romero
I have a DNS server for my local LAN. I use "ibacsoft.dynu.com" as the primary zone
and all works properly. When I wanted to add an additional zone, "lalis.com", to use
virtual hosts with apache, I created the following zone file, called "lalis.com" on
/etc/namedb:

---
$TTL3600
lalis.com. IN SOA adeline.ibacsoft.dynu.com.
root.adeline.ibacsoft.dynu.com (
6; Serial
3600; Refresh
900 ; Retry
360 ; Expire
3600 ) ; Minimum
   IN NS adeline.ibacsoft.dynu.com.
;
IN A 192.168.0.101

www IN CNAME@
mailIN CNAME@

@ IN MX 10 mail.lalis.com.

I then reload named with "ndc reload", ping www.lalis.com and all looks fine.
I even go to www.lalis.com and the apache home page shows up.

The problem is when I try to use lalis.com, without the "www" part. When I ping
lalis.com, it doesn´t give me the correct internal IP address, like www.lalis.com does.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Alfonso Romero

Re: Creating an additional DNS zone file

2003-06-20 Thread Alfonso Romero
The real lalis.com domain is correct, I´m just using a fake domain
internally on my LAN with the same name.

This morning I pinged lalis.com and www.lalis.com, and they gave up the same
IP address, 192.168.0.101. I don´t know why yesterday they weren´t showing
up the same address, and now they are. I didn´t change anything!! I guess
it must be something related to the refresh rate, or something like that.

swap_pager_getswapspace: failed

2003-06-23 Thread Alfonso Romero
I keep getting the following in /var/log/messages every time I run mysqld:

Jun 23 03:04:14 franky /kernel: swap_pager_getswapspace: failed
Jun 23 03:04:14 franky last message repeated 26 times
Jun 23 03:04:15 franky /kernel: pid 189 (mysqld), uid 88, was killed: out of swap space
Jun 23 11:19:39 franky /kernel: swap_pager_getswapspace: failed
Jun 23 11:19:41 franky last message repeated 48 times

Is this a problem with mysql, or do I need to get more swap space?

The machine has 32MB RAM and a swap space of 128M, I am running apache 1.3.27, mysql
4, postfix and courier-imap. The problem appeared when I began using a mysql database
with postfix for virtual domains. BTW, courier-imap doesn´t work with mysql yet.

Thanks, I ran swapinfo and it showed up the following info:

How can I know what applications are using the swap space?
I guess 32MB RAM is too little for MySQL, Apache and Postfix, huh?

Re: Two DNS servers with one IP address

2003-06-26 Thread Alfonso Romero
Thanks for your reply. The reason I wanted to have two DNS servers is
because I want to register several domains and don´t want to depend on an
external DNS service, but I found out the two DNS servers required by
Internic must be physically separated also, so I´ll have to ask someone else
to host my secondary DNS server, or stick with the available DNS options. I
just wondered if it could be possible to have two DNS servers inside a LAN,
behind a FreeBSD box with NAT.

You can easyly do it yourself. CVSup your ports collection to get the
latest postfix port, then run 'make patch' and select the desired
options (sasl, ...).

Now download the patch to the ports work directory, gunzip and apply it
(patch < patch-file).

All you have to do now, is to resume the build (cd ..; make build).

 Simon

Oddly enough, I recently installed mod_php4 and looking back, the

My /etc/resolv.conf:

# MADE-BY-RP-PPPOE
nameserver 198.235.216.135
nameserver 209.226.175.224

I didn't put these because when we run rp-pppoe it is make automaticaly ;).
ppp is run at startup by the rc.conf I put before.

Re: tab in an input box

2003-05-30 Thread Alfonso Romero
There must be an event associated with pressing the tab key. For example, in
Visual Basic you can use the On_keypress event, or something like that (it´s
been a long time since my last program in VB) to detect if the user has
pressed a special key, like tab or insert, and then use it for what you want
to do.

Or maybe you can use Shift+Tab, like when using Shift+Return?

Re: secure pop server

2003-05-31 Thread Alfonso Romero
You can use imap-uw with SSL only, and if you´re gonna use sendmail as the
MTA, it´s the easiest choice I´ve seen. Just install the cclient port and
the imap-uw port, enable inetd and add the required lines to inetd.conf:

pop3s stream tcp nowait root/usr/local/libexec/ipop3d
ipop3d
imaps stream tcp nowait root/usr/local/libexec/imapd
imapd

you need a certificate to use SSL, so use 'make cert' at the
/usr/ports/mail/imap-uw directory.

I think that´s all.

DNS and natd

2003-06-03 Thread Alfonso Romero
I´m using natd on a FreeBSD 4.8 box as a gateway, so my internal LAN can access
Internet. I´ve configured a web server, but the local LAN machines can´t access the
server by it´s domain name. If I setup my FreeBSD gateway to also act as a DNS server,
are my local LAN machines going to be able to access my web server with
www.ibacsoft.dynu.com, instead of 192.168.0.2?

Thanks in advance

Re: DNS and natd

2003-06-03 Thread Alfonso Romero
This is the result of traceroute:

traceroute to 200.67.41.134 (200.67.41.134), 64 hops max, 44 byte packets
 1 dsl-200-67-41-134.prodigy.net.mx (200.67.41.134) 0.844 ms 0.649 ms
0.570 ms

My web server is on another machine, at 192.168.0.2, and the natd is running
on 192.168.0.1.

Is there any flag on natd that solves this issue?

Re: DNS and natd

2003-06-03 Thread Alfonso Romero
Thanks for your reply. I found the "6.1 Creating a mini-DNS system" document
from the Pedantic PPP Primer
(http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/ppp-primer/c831.html#AEN83
3)

Do you think it fits my needs?

Yes, it is an internal DNS setup and I believe "views" requires BIND9. With
BIND8+, you need two DNS setups: 1 for external and 1 for internal
(LAN).
