RealTek 8139 config problems

2004-08-21 Thread Chris Staskewicz
I've searched the mailing archives for this problem (yeah, yeah, I know
these cards stink, but I'm going for gold anyway). I have 2 of these at
rl0 and rl1. The rl0 correctly auto dectects to "100baseTX full-duplex",
however, the one at rl1 dectects to "10baseT/UPT".

Thus, I use "ifconfig" to set rl1 to "100baseTX full-duplex" and all is
well. However!!! if I then set the inet address to say 192.168.1.1 (or
whatever), the card no longer transmits data (the LED light on the back of
the card even goes out). Also, the LED light on the HUB corresponding to
this card starts blinking rapidly.

Any help?

Thank you very much,

Chris.

PCI modem configuration

2003-06-09 Thread Chris Staskewicz
I have a PnP PCI modem that I think the kernel recognizes (I added "device
puc" to a new kernel build). "dmesg" added a new line (new in the sense
that the older dmesg on the older kernel didn't have it) with something
like,

pci0 irq=9 ...

I would email the exact text, however, I can't dial-up from home just yet!
My question is, that if this is the correct configuration, how do I know
or make the correct device nodes in /dev, so that I can use PPP or some
other program to dial-up to the ISP? "sh MAKEDEV pci0" doesn't work, and
browsing what's available in /etc/MAKEDEV doesn't really give me any
clues.

Thanks so much,

Chris.
