Doubled files or directories on samba.
Hello, I have some strange behavior with some files and some directories being doubled on samba. When checking on freebsd file system all is OK. Mounting partitions on windows clients or connecting with smbclient would show some doubled files or directories. I mean the same file appear twice. When deleting one from windows both disappear but copying back the file from backup, again I have 2 files with the same name. smb: \ ls DATA\RON\E* EURO.XG0A 4096 Wed Jan 23 14:58:44 2008 EURO.XG0A 4096 Wed Jan 23 14:58:44 2008 First I've upgraded samba to the latest port version (samba-3.0.28,1) - no joy. I've made a jail (maybe the ports are messed?) only with samba. Same result. I've source upgraded to 6.3-RELEASE. Nice but didn't solve the problem. The system was stable and I cannot relate any software maintenance with the beginning of this behavior. Any pointers would be appreciated. ipsec, pptp or something else.
Hi, The current setup include two locations - main office and a remote location. The main office have the internet connection (optical fibre). The remote location is connected to the main office using a vpn (main office - FreeBSD with IPsec and racoon; remote location Linksys router BEFVP41, connected to a radio modem). So far, so good. The contract is with a small provider, actually just a dealer of a bigger one. Until now the big one has managed the bandwith, but this has to be changed. The dealer is using pptp to manage the clients sitting on the optical fibre of the actual provider, but none of them have the need of vpn to remote locations. Any suggestions? Hello dear list, I have one FreeBSD router in front of the internal network. Now I've installed another FreeBSD box which must be the www sever. I've managed to redirect the port 80 at the router and the web server is visible to the outside world. But the problem is now at the other internal workstations which are unable to browse the web server. Sounds to me you could be having issues with internal/external DNS and ip-addresses. In other words, you are querying your www server from a dns and is getting the Internet ip back instead of the lan ip. Can you connect to your www server with ip? I can only connect using the internal ip address. Otherwise, yes, when querying for the name I get the external IP address. There is no DNS server on this lan. Is this the problem? Or you run an internal DNS with an internal zone for your domain whilst running on the internet the external zone. Regards, Patrick Thank you Patrick, that's what I was afraid of. Re: nwfs problems
Hi guys, Let me reformulate the problem. In order to mount volumes from Novell NetWare 5 using FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE, I've performed these steps: 1. Modified and compiled the kernel adding only this line: options IPX 2. Added the following two lines to /boot/loader.conf: if_ef_load=YES nwfs_load=YES although probably this is similar with compiling them into kernel. 3. Added the following two lines to /etc/rc.conf: ipxrouted_enable=YES ifconfig_rl0f2_ipx=ipx 12345678 Well, it works, but... When the network is loaded and also a lot of activity to and from the novell server, everyhing is ok. When there is no activity netstat -r show only the rl0f2 route and the novell server is inaccesible. Restarting IPXrouted is solving the problem for the moment. I think that some tunnable options should solve the problem. Any ideas? Regards, Cristian Salan --- Xnet scaneaza automat toate mesajele impotriva virusilor folosind RAV AntiVirus. Re: nwfs problems
This is my own solving steps. Hope it will help, because on the net there is some confusing information. On Mon, Sep 08, 2003 at 03:31:23PM +0300, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello, I'm trying to mount some volumes from a Novell NetWare 5 using 4.8-RELEASE FreeBSD. dmesg shows the following error: /kernel: module_register_init: MOD_LOAD (nwfs, c024387c, 0xc0541500) error 17 It seems that I've compiled the nwfs module in kernel and then loaded again via loader.conf. From the original install I've made these modifs: #kernel config file options NWFS options NCP options IPX So I removed it from kernel (NWFS and NCP), recompile it and no more error messages from the kernel. But using ncplist s, after 10-15 seconds it ends with an error message showing the actual name of the Novell server. It only works if I restart manually the IPXrouted daemon. Same problem was on a Linux box, where I put 10 seconds delay between bringing up the network interfaces and the actual mount on the Novell. Does anybody know where could be the problem?
