Is BIND9 not stable since BIND8 is the default?

Removing default installed BIND

2003-08-18 Thread Jacob Vennervald Madsen
Hi

I have a FreeBSD 4.8 box which I want to setup as a DNS server.
By default BIND8 is installed but I want to use BIND9. How do I remove
the old BIND version?
It doesn't seem to be a package.

Yes I have one and it's very well supported.
You don't have to load extra modules like on Linux.

Re: NATD and PPP problem

Hi

Thanks a lot!
The natd_flag="-dynamic" worked. Aparently the pppoe interface tun0
wasn't active yet when natd was started so it couldn't find the
interface.

Re: XP to FreeBSD LAN connection

2003-07-28 Thread Jacob Vennervald Madsen
Hi

If you just want to be able to connect to services on the FreeBSD box
from your XP box, then you should just give your XP box's internal
network adapter and the FreeBSD box's network adapter an IP address
withing the same internal subnet.
For example give you XP box the address 10.0.0.1 and your FreeBSD box
the address 10.0.0.2. The subnet mask on both should be 255.0.0.0 and
that's it.

Wouldn't it be nicer to have your FreeBSD box function as a NAT router
and firewall?
A FreeBSD machine without internet connection is in my opinion no fun
=o)

Best regards,
Jacob

RAID with atacontrol

2003-07-22 Thread Jacob Vennervald Madsen
Hi

Does anybody know if it's possible to create a RAID1 array on disks with
data on them without destroying the data on them?
My reason for doing this is that I have to disks that I run in an
existing Promise Fasttrack100 RAID1 array, but I want to use the RAID
controller in another machine. Then I heard that FreeBSD supports
Promise RAID1 arrays in the kernel meaning that I can make RAID1 arrays
without using a Promise RAID controller.

Any help appriciated.

Through this SMS gateway you can send SMS'es via a Nokia premicell

PCI bus problem

2003-07-10 Thread Jacob Vennervald Madsen
Hi BSD people

I've just installed a FreeBSD 4.8 on an HP Netserver E50 machine with a
PCI Promise Fasttrack 100 IDE RAID controller in it.
My problem is that when I issue the reboot command the machine reboots
but for some reason the the RAID conroller doesn't find any disks.
Only if I shutdown comletely and then restart the machine manually can I
make it work. It seems that the PCI bus is not rescanned on reboot.
One of my friends told me that it could be a Plug&Play setting in the
BIOS that should be changed, but I don't see any settings relating to
this.
Is it possible to force a PCI rescan or something just before rebooting
the machine?
Does anybody have any ideas?
