How can I get rid of this message, making the system ignore it? Is
not causing any apparent problem apart of the funny flooding...

Well, there is not drive itself, so seems to be related to the
controller... I have deleted as well the old /dev/* which was assigned
previously to the old drive... without any luck...

It is basically flooding the terminal at the logon prompt... I was
able to connect trough ssh (to avoid the flooding) and remove the cd0
entry from fstab... but error still coming up (I removed it as I dont
need a cdrom drive on it now)

when decompile the atapi module from kernel now the error is a bit different:

Physic to KVM VPS server FREEBSD 8.0 STABLE

2010-02-22 Thread Jeronimo Calvo
Hi All,

I have managed to migrate a physic old server to a vps, using KVM.
Dumping the HD with dd to a .img file and assigning the hd under KVM.
Everything looks alright except for a cdrom driver error (as the original
server use to have 2 of them...)
I have recompile the kernel without atapi modules on it. but problem still
persist.

There is any option to reconfigure all the hardware without re-installing,
(something like the Repair option for NT systems)?

Thanks!

tailing the /var/log/cron I can see that is being executed every

Geom not found, disaster recovery plan on FREEBSD 7.2 STABLE

2009-12-18 Thread Jeronimo Calvo
Ho folks,

As a plan for a recovery planing due to a crash on a kernel Update,
when restarted I used to have F1 Freebsd and F2 Other, I choosed F2
wich seems to belong to an old linux installation and a Grub-error pop
up, after restarting again, Freebsd completly dissapear booting just
that Old-Crashed GRUB plan...

On an attempt to recover the normal behaviour I tried booting from a
Livecd and restore the freebsd boot loader MBR on my first disk doing:

Fixit# fdisk -B -b /boot/boot0 ad8

seems to write the MBR but when is asking to overwrite the partition
table it is giving me an error:

Geom not found...

I tried several times, as well as using "fdisk -BI ad8" wich gives me
the same error...

Any ideas?

2009-11-08 Thread Jeronimo Calvo
Hi Folks,

Running pkgdb -F Im getting the following error:
I tried reinstalling devel/py-gobject, but did not help.
All dependencies are linked to py25-gobject-2.16.1, so I can not
remove that package as well.
Can somebody give me a workaround??

(py25-gobject-2.16.1)
You may wish to ``make deinstall'' and install this port again
by ``make reinstall'' to upgrade it properly.

Error when changin from -ro to rw on /etc/exports, FREEBSD STABLE 7.2

2009-10-19 Thread Jeronimo Calvo
Hi folks,

Today I decide to change the settings from my server, allowing RW
access to 2 currently mapped NFS partions on my Freebsd box.
The used to be RO only.

What i notice is when I change it as follows:

[root@ /DATA1]# cat /etc/exports
/DATA1 -rw 192.168.11.6
/DATA2 -rw 192.168.11.6

I am not able to map them anymore from my opensolaris client.
When changing back to RO, it maps correctly.

All permissions are set un as 755 -R on /DATA1 and /DATA2

When on RO, it maps when requested via AutoFS perfectly:

/net/192.168.11.5/DATA1 on 192.168.11.5:/DATA1
remote/read/write/nosetuid/nodevices/xattr/dev=4ec0007 on Mon Oct 19
23:09:45 2009
/net/192.168.11.5/DATA2 on 192.168.11.5:/DATA2
remote/read/write/nosetuid/nodevices/xattr/dev=4ec0008 on Mon Oct 19
23:09:46 2009

Any ideas? im sure im mistaking somewhere... :S

Data Redundancy RAID 0+1 Vs 1+0 FREEBSD 7.4 STABLE

2009-10-17 Thread Jeronimo Calvo
Hi folks,

I'm thinking to build a Raid on my system and I'm getting documented
abut 0+1 and 1+0 RAID systems.
As far as I can see the best option is a 1+0 is the best option as if
one of the from mirrors fails, the RAID still be redundant and in the
case of a 0+1 RAID, If one of them fails, the RAID will be down until
u replace the HD in question...

So my question is, if I am right above, what are de benefits of
mounting a RAID 0+1 ??

Cheers!

Well the HD7200... is a PCI-E card... (not sure if is 7200 but is from

should you suggest guy to do a normal

#cp /media/DATAWIN /media/UFShd

as there is no any soft and hard links on this partition... will be fine?

Re: Virtualbox does not lunch (FREEBSD 7.2 STABLE)

2009-09-17 Thread Jeronimo Calvo
for some reason, it gives me the same error... the funny thing is
pkgdb gives me a nice colection of errors as well :D

# pkg_info | grep virtualbox
virtualbox-3.0.51.r6 A general-purpose full virtualizer for x86 hardware

# pkg_delete -f virtualbox-3.0.51.r6

pkg_delete: unable to completely remove directory '/usr/local/lib/virtualbox'
pkg_delete: couldn't entirely delete package (perhaps the packing list is
incorrectly specified?)

pkg_delete: unable to completely remove directory (pkgdb -F)

2009-09-17 Thread Jeronimo Calvo
Hi folks,

dealing with broken package (virtualbox which is driving me crazy)
I am getting the following error everytime i try to deinstall it, to
make a clean installation from source:

pkg_delete: unable to completely remove directory

any idea on how to manage to get rid of this error?

Cheers!

2009-09-17 Thread Jeronimo Calvo
I am getting the following error on #make deinstall

# make deinstall
===>  Deinstalling for emulators/virtualbox
===>   Deinstalling virtualbox-3.0.51.r6
pkg_delete: file '/usr/local/lib/virtualbox/nls' doesn't exist
pkg_delete: unable to completely remove directory
'/usr/local/lib/virtualbox/nls'
pkg_delete: unable to completely remove directory '/usr/local/lib/virtualbox'
pkg_delete: couldn't entirely delete package (perhaps the packing list is
incorrectly specified?)

Btw, skipping that step and doing a #make reinstall

it only takes few secs... and gives

VirtualBox was installed.

but when i run it as a normal user i get:

$ VirtualBox
bash: /usr/local/bin/VirtualBox: No such file or directory

Driver
"radeonhd"<http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/ports/x11-drivers/xf86-video-radeonhd/>

after, i did install glxgears ant runned:

Re: SUID permission on Bash script

2009-08-28 Thread Jeronimo Calvo
Aham!

so SUID can be applied to sh but it doesn't work!, there is not anyway to
apply it? apart from installing sudo?, The thing is that installing sudo and
adding that user into sudoers, that user will be capable to do any other SU
tasks, apart of shutting down... wich i dont like :D (I know that SUID could
be even worst if they edit the .sh file... but lets believe they dont even
know that XD)

Cheers!

SUID permission on Bash script

2009-08-28 Thread Jeronimo Calvo
Hi folks!

Im trying to set up a reaaallly basic scrip to allow one user to shutdown my
machine without root permisions, seting up SUID as follows:

-rwsrwxr-- 1 root wheel 38 Aug 27 23:12 apagar.sh

$ ./apagar.sh

Permission denied

content of script:

cat apagar.sh

]#!/usr/local/bin/bash
shutdown -p now

As far as i know, using SUID, script must runs with root permissions... so i
shoudnt get "Permission denied", what im doing wrong??

ATI HD 4550 xorg.conf "radeon" driver

2009-08-27 Thread Jeronimo Calvo
Hi folks,

I am setting up a fresh installation of Freebsd on a EMT64 machine...
everything is working smooth so far, but im wondering some things about the
3D support from my graphic card, i bought that card few weeks ago (stupid me
i didnt read about ATU support under FreeBSD before...) but btw i can not
step back... Im trying to get 3D aceleration for that card... noticed that
after setting up X11 xorg.conf... Driver used is "radeon", I'd been reading
about the possibility of using others... what is the best option? I noticed
that im unable to set activate the desktop affects, that makes me wonder...
that 3d is not working properly innit??

Can somebody help me with this??

Re: Problem mounting EXT2FS

2009-08-24 Thread Jeronimo Calvo
True you are right... I was using the incorrect syntax and the incorrect
word hehehhe

well I did try as well using the correct procedure:

Thats the result (mounted but not accesible)

[root@ /media/DATOSWIN]# mount
/dev/ad8s1a on / (ufs, local)
devfs on /dev (devfs, local)
/dev/ad8s1e on /tmp (ufs, local, soft-updates)
/dev/ad8s1f on /usr (ufs, local, soft-updates)
/dev/ad8s1d on /var (ufs, local, soft-updates)
/dev/ntfs/DATOSWIN on /media/DATOSWIN (ntfs, local, nosuid)
[root@ /media/DATOSWIN]# *mount -t ext2fs /dev/ad6s1 /ext2*
[root@ /media/DATOSWIN]# cd /ext2
*bash: cd: /ext2: Not a directory*
[root@ /media/DATOSWIN]# ls -la /ext2
*ls: /ext2: Bad file descriptor*
[root@ /media/DATOSWIN]#

Problem mounting EXT2FS

2009-08-24 Thread Jeronimo Calvo
Hi folks, im migrating from Linux to BSD, and i found my first problem...
First of all, i did save my /home from my old Linux distribution on another
HD, ext2fs partition /dev/ad6s1... I can correctly see the drive from
sysinstall.

I read about compiling the KERNEL in order to add Ext2fs support under
Freebsd, wich I did... Adding the line:

 Quote:
  options EXT2FS
looking like this:

 Quote:
  options KBD_INSTALL_CDEV # install a CDEV entry in /dev
options ADAPTIVE_GIANT # Giant mutex is adaptive.
options STOP_NMI # Stop CPUS using NMI instead of IPI
options AUDIT # Security event auditing
#options KDTRACE_FRAME # Ensure frames are compiled in
*options EXT2FS*
#options KDTRACE_HOOKS # Kernel DTrace hooks
After this i recompiled the kernel and installed...

 Quote:
  # uname -a
FreeBSD 7.2-RELEASE FreeBSD 7.2-RELEASE #0: Mon Aug 24 18:59:43 UTC 2009
iscariote@:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/MYKERNEL amd64
Well... everything should be ready now to mount my ext2fs partition... Using
the following command...

 Quote:
  # mount
/dev/ad8s1a on / (ufs, local)
devfs on /dev (devfs, local)
/dev/ad8s1e on /tmp (ufs, local, soft-updates)
/dev/ad8s1f on /usr (ufs, local, soft-updates)
/dev/ad8s1d on /var (ufs, local, soft-updates)
/dev/ntfs/DATOSWIN on /media/DATOSWIN (ntfs, local, nosuid)
# mount -t extfs2 /dev/ad6s1 /ext2
mount: /dev/ad6s1 : Operation not supported by device

I tried several times, with not luck, one of those times i was able to mount
it, but not to access it, when i tried to cd /ext2 (folder when is mounted)
system tells me that ext2 is not a folder...

any ideas???

Thanks in advance!!
