Can your machine email the PDF? That's how I'd solve it... have it

the attachment and puts it in a directory shared on the network.

That is a novel idea and yes it does have the ability to send a scanned
document via email; however, I think that is way more trouble than it
is worth. I have the problem solved by sharing the directories on the
MS machines. It isn't perfect, but it does work. Porting the Brother
scanner software to FreeBSD would probably be ideal, but I have neither
the time, a spare machine nor probably the skill to do it.

Jerry,
Have you thought about using FTP?
First googled spec on brother-usa.com shows that it supports Scan To:
E-mail, Image, OCR, File, FTP, USB, Network

And in Supported protocols they mention: FTP Client and Server

try loading u3g module first. If that doesn't work then simple ejecting the
cdrom should help:
 cdcontrol -f /dev/cd0 eject
For long term solution there should be a patch for the u3g module. Please look
in u3g.c file for similar solutions, there should be a few of them.

Depends on your needs. For me it was essential to have the same name of the
disk no matter to what server I connect it. Label is working fine for me.

vfs.root.mountfrom=ufs:/dev/label/bigdisk in loader.conf doesn't work?
I think that worked with stock FreeBSD loader.

Probably similar to subversion example:
  # portupgrade -o devel/subversion devel/subversion-freebsd
  # portupgrade -r devel/subversion

portupgrade -o devel/p5-Version-Requirements devel/p5-CPAN-Meta
pkg_delete p5-Version-Requirements-\*

Be aware that as I don't use portupgrade I haven't tested that.

You may try to get ath driver from -HEAD and compile it with your RELENG_8
tree[1]. There are many fixes for this chipset in the -HEAD. The coming 9 will
have it(I don't know the timeframe for the release though)

Case for Alix shouldn't be a problem. Many universal ones may be used
(although they may be larger than your needs f.ex. external ones with
integrated antennas)
I took the PS, aluminium case for home/office use and board from one seller and
it all fits and works fine. You may even make your own case if you want :)
Usually Alix boards have wide range of PS support. F.ex. Alix.2/6 input
voltage is 7 to 20V DC. I tried many Linksys/Netgear 12V/1A PS and they worked
fine. The only thing which may be different is power jack, sometimes they make
different diameters for different routers. AFAIR Alix use 2,5mm. The CF cards
are not a problem on the market. You'll need to select if you want to use
pfsense or normal FreeBSD(NanoBSD builds). In /usr/src/tools/tools/nanobsd you
should find example build for PCEngines board. NanoBSD with Alix is very nice
connection. You may create two root slices/parts, config and data. This eases
upgrade procedure - you'll always have old working system and the new one.
Root is mounted in read-only mode so eventual power loss will not be a
problem.
Taking Alix(or any x86 compatible board) and having i386 buildhost environment
you may install packages from ports to your prepared image.

For router you may use ARM or MIPS boards too but they need to be crossbuilt
and may need more work to setup them and of course their prices may be higher
than Alix. You should find some info about them on the wiki.freebsd.org

Kind regards,
Maciej

You can't create gpt table on top of existing MBR table.
If you want to use gpt you need to have clean hard drive for that(removed all
partitions and destroy current table)
If you just want to add ad0s4 you should do gpart add ...

And this is with tap interfaces - I think it won't work.
Don't use bridge mode if you have two subnets of /24. I saw examples that it
would work only if you make one subnet accessible to both: local network and
vpn network. Change your configuration from bridged to routed or change your
vpn addressing space.
If you'll go the routed way you may try this:

Have you tried adding the route to 192.168.46.0/24 subnet into the vpn client?

You want to ping the host/interface on different subnet. If you don't set the
routing to this subnet how your client should know that he needs to put that
packet through tap interface not defaultroute which I suspect is different?

Can you show the output of netstat -rn of the vpn client?

You may try to look into tcpdump on the vpn router to find what is going with
your packets. And for such scenario like vpnclient->vpnserver->network you may
even not need nat just simple routing will be enough as long as you set it up
on right.

My setup is based on tun interfaces and works like a charm. I don't use nat
and I only added routing info to the specific routers in the internal
networks.

From the man openvpn(8):
Don't use --server if you are ethernet bridging. Use --server-
  bridge instead.
And additionally bridging means that you have to divide your local
subnet(192.168.46.0/24) into two parts. Please have a look for the example at
[1].

You may even not need bridging if you want to use two subnets of /24. Have you
tried with standard setup(server) and configuring your default gateway(I
suspect 192.168.46.1) with the routing information about openvpn subnet
192.168.47.0/24?

In some circumstances it's worth. Not everyone needs anything above stock
firmware but some funcionalities are really useful. Sometime ago it was that
stock firmware has issues with their wireless chipsets and waiting for the
manufacturer update was very long - using alternative firmware helped a lot
that time.

Does stock firmware support openvpn client?
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/VPN_%28the_easy_way%29_v24%2B
What about hotspot functionality? Does stock firmware support it?
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Chillispot
Monthly/daily usage statistics etc. for people who have some limits on the
internet access? I think there could be more things that are useful for some
people.

Have you tried gobi_loader and

As for the subject - my R400 is working fine and I have no problems with it.
Opposite to when I had Lenovo 3000 series(poor performance, hot palm rest

I think this line was transformed into the IdeaPad line
Earlier I had Acer's Travelmate 3012 where it has issues with acpi and overall
performance not to mention surprisingly hot keyboard.

I think the answer for your first question is on
http://www.debian.org/CD/faq/index.en.html#which-cd

And talking about GNU/kFreeBSD:
http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/kfreebsd-amd64/ch04s01.html.en
"Although a full set of binary packages requires several CDs, it is unlikely
you will need packages on the third CD and above. You may also consider using
the DVD version, which saves a lot of space on your shelf and you avoid the CD
shuffling marathon."
They are writing about CD's but I think the same is about DVD's containing the
most wanted packages on the first image(s).

Of course that you don't need full set of DVD's. You can even use a small
netinstall cd to get Debian. AFAIR on the last discs there were sources for
the packages from the first several discs. So the release version of the
Debian contains not only packages but the sources too and it's all included in
these DVD's. It's like release of FreeBSD + all distfiles on the CD/DVD media.

AFAIK this matrix storage is supported by ataraid driver.
I think using gmirror or zfs is better than ataraid.

It looks there is no onboard graphics card. You need to buy it separately.

From kdiff3 homepage looks that from version 0.9.93 kdiff3 works with KDE4.
Earlier version worked with KDE3 only. In ports is version 0.9.95 and in
Makefile it's line USE_KDE4 so it builds with KDE4. You can take earlier port
version 0.9.92 manually from
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/ports/textproc/kdiff3/
or use ports-mgmt/portdowngrade

The migrationtools page[1] says this about
 $DEFAULT_BASE
The naming suffix to use in entries' distinguished names. If undefined, this
will be constructed by mapping the mail domain name into a distinguished name
(eg aceindustry.com becomes dc=aceindustry,dc=com). You may override this with
the LDAP_BASEDN environment variable.
Have you tried that?

If you are not bound to IPSEC I think you could use OpenVPN and some kind of
dyndns service. I haven't set up this between two servers although I'm
successfuly using it in client-server mode and it works fine.

Looking at http://www.freshports.org/net-p2p/mldonkey/ you can have earlier
version than from 21.09 so it's marked as BROKEN, the version after 21.09
should be OK. AFAIK portsnap doesn't give you the latest ports tree just a
(maybe daily) snapshot. So I think it's the problem.

You have three ways:
 a) wait some time (maybe a day) and try again with portsnap
 b) use csup to sync your ports tree
 c) manualy download needed files for port from cvsweb
(http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/ports/net-p2p/mldonkey/)

Asking google shows that there are informations about them on many linux
forums.

It depends on revision of these cards because f.ex. DWA130 has 5 revisions
from A(no rev number) to E and they're using different chipsets inside.
As an example information from net8192su.inf:
%DWA-130C2.DeviceDesc% = RTL8192su.ndi, USB\VID_07D1&PID_3302
%DWA-130E1.DeviceDesc% = RTL8192su.ndi, USB\VID_07D1&PID_3300
%DWA-131A1.DeviceDesc% = RTL8192su.ndi, USB\VID_07D1&PID_3303
I don't know this chipset and if it's supported by any driver.

Looking for the Netgear it looks that it's Marvell 88W8361 and it's rather not
supported by FreeBSD.
Atleast man(8) mwl says that only 88W8363 is supported.

Try loading if_iwn module. But before loading read man if_iwn there are
information about using this module.

It depends on your needs. How much you need for your nanobsd installation.
Check how big it is now and add some space for future. If you will leave
enough room you won't need to reflash full disk but only image of one
partition/slice.

If I remember correctly DATASIZE is size of additional partition f.ex. for
application data that remains untouched between upgrading of nanobsd.

It is certificate of CA(Certificate Authority). I think it should be different
than your server certificate. If you create self-signed certificate you first
create your own CA and then issue certificate for the server or clients.

From transmission manual:
 -a --allowed x.x.x.x,...
Allow RPC access to a comma-delimited whitelist of IP addresses.
Wildcards can be specified in an address by using '*'. Default:
 "127.0.0.1" Example: "127.0.0.*,192.168.1.*"

So by settings this flag you are allowing only IP 192.168.0.1.

Try this way:

I don't know if any tool will let you get how much power your drives are using
but for monitoring voltage you should find something in ports. It can tell
only if the voltage you get from PSU is rather OK or not.

For measuring exactly you should first see work done by guys from xbitlabs[1]
They are writing how they measure that but not in very simple way ;)

Are you sure that those reboots aren't because of too high temperature on CPU
or MB?

Do not edit /etcpasswd to change shell. Use command:
chpass -s /bin/shell username
Or if you really want to do it manually rebuild it through pwd_mkdb. More info

You can try doing this by software switch:
sysctl -a | grep rfkill
dev.ath.0.rfkill: 0
This switch should disable radio.
I don't know if it is supported by iwi driver but you can try.

From /usr/src/Makefile:
# kernel - buildkernel + installkernel.
This shouldtn't be the main problem.

You should look for full log from kernel building. f.ex. run:
cd /usr/src; make buildkernel | tee kernel_compilation.log
and search in this log for an error in this log.

I don't know how tu use but I see something strange with your setup.
In ssh-pam_pgsql.conf you have pw_type = md5 and in your database you have a
cleartext password. I think it is your problem.
I think that you can add column in your database and convert cleartext
password to md5. Or, if possible, configure pam to use cleartext password. I

Well, in my opinion those things you can achieve using AP connected to
ethernet card of your computer. But there aro other problems in this solution:
- knowing of connected wifi clients
- changing some WiFi settings
- reseting AP
Many AP systems are configurable through web interface so it is additional
problem. If you set it only once and forget about it or you have someone who
can reset this AP then it's possible to do.

For me there is better if it is one device not two - the configuration in this
case could be simpler.

But I second for the advice to use PCI/mPCI cards not USB ones.

Yes, it has changed.

cd /usr/ports/lang/php5 && make config

there is option apache which says it builds apache module.

The reason is explained in ports this way:

If you don't want to let users logon to server through SSH you can use
DenyUsers/AllowUsers directive in sshd_config
As for LDAP and PAM/system there should be some howtos on the net. Shortly:
you will need to install nss_ldap and pam_ldap and setup it correctly to get
users from ldap showing in your system.

I think that it will be quite hard to make it running from floppy. If you don't
want to install it on this HD (f.ex. because of noise) then you can replace
HDD with Disk-On-Module or CF card with CF-IDE adapter.
With booting from usb on such rather old computers I had so many problems that
I went for other options like these mentioned above.
