Unix-Syslog Duplicate origin?

2006-10-09 Thread Yousef Raffah
Hello,

I just portsnap fetched my box and when I did a pkgdb -F it said I have
a duplicate origin of sysutils/p5-Unix-Syslog - bsdpan-Unix-Syslog
p5-Unix-Syslog-0.100

My question is, is it safe to unregister any of them? If yes, which one?

Depends on what you really mean by support for right to left, in all
GTK2+ and QT3+ applications you have proper support. This means if you
are running recent versions of GNOME or KDE then you have no issues.
On the other hand, you can write in these languages as well.

Library problems

2006-08-23 Thread Yousef Raffah
I'm running on -CURRENT and facing some library problems I guess. I have
GNOME, KDE and Enlightenment DR17 installed on the same box. If I run
gnome and start evolution for example or epiphany, it runs smoothly with
no issues what so ever. However, if I'm logged in into KDE or
Enlightenment and try to start Evolution, it starts but with no icons[1]
and if I try to run epiphany it says:
Could not start GNOME Web Browser
Startup failed because of the following error:
Unable to determine the address of the message bus (try 'man
dbus-launch' and 'man dbus-daemon' for help)

Even though I have it running:
messagebus 715 0.0 0.3 6452 1320 ?? Is 10:14AM
0:00.00 /usr/local/bin/dbus-daemon --system

Xorg freeze when loading dri module and xorg.conf dissapears or get borked!

2006-08-21 Thread Yousef Raffah
Ever since I tried using google earth on my FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT #5: Sat
Aug 19 14:54:28 AST 2006 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/LAPTOP
with direct rendering I started to see these problems coming.

First problem comes when trying to load the dri module in xorg.conf, my
system freeze and I can't even ssh into it neither can I ping it. I have
to hard boot it. When I do that, sometimes my /etc/X11/xorg.conf
dissapears! Yes, it dissapears! or gets corrupted! I lost my previous
xorg.conf with TV output because of that issue :(

I tried this with the ati driver as well as the radeon driver with no
difference what so ever. I even loaded the radeon module using kldload
radeon, which loaded the drm module and the same problem was still
there.

This is my ati card's part from pciconf -lv:

attached is my existing xorg.conf and believe it or not,

Anyone here had the same issue with loading dri in their xorg.conf? What
do you people suggest?

Building an OpenOffice Package Problem

2006-08-14 Thread Yousef Raffah
Hi,

I'm trying to build a OpenOffice.org package for -CURRENT but it is
failing saying:

configure: error: JDK is too old, you need at least 1.3

This is a bit strange to me as I assure you I have
diablo-jdk-1.5.0.07.00 Java Development Kit 1.5.0_07.00 installed on
that machine.

Should I remove this diablo-jdk and install SUN's JDK? Is this how it
should be?

I have tried to completely delete it and reinstall it from ports but
that never fixed it!

Any recommendations?

Downgrading a package?

2006-08-08 Thread Yousef Raffah
How can I downgrade a package in freebsd? I'm having a server (luckily
not a production one) running postfix+amavisd-new+clamav and after the
portupgrade -a amavis is failing saying:

run_command: child process [4331]: Error closing main::stdin: Bad file
descriptor at /usr/local/sbin/amavisd line 1872.\n
TROUBLE in check_mail: parts_decode_ext FAILED: parsing file(1) results
- missing last 1 results at (eval 62) line 154.

googling for the error, it seems like it is an issue with Net::Server
http://www.freespamfilter.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=236

What is the normal way of downgrading packages in FreeBSD?

How can I have dual displays (Laptop screen and TV)?

2006-08-03 Thread Yousef Raffah
I like to watch movies and clips alot, so a 15.4 is not really and
impressive or a great option, therefore, I wanted to be able to plug my
laptop to the Samsung TV at home through an S-Video cable in order to
watch the movies.

However, I was not able to properly configure xorg.conf and I googled
for S-Video and xorg but most of the results I found were Linux related
(although I doubt it would make a big difference) but none worked with
me. My xorg.conf is appended.

If I connect my laptop to the TV while my X is running and fn+F5 my TV
screen tries to display X but the screen keeps on flickering. I tried
shutting down X, connecting and fn+F5 it works fine but after I start X
again, it keeps on flickering :(

Any help would be really appreciated :)

iwi cannot allocate firmware DMA memory

2006-07-24 Thread Yousef Raffah
Hi,

I'm a happy FreeBSD user and I have it installed on my laptop (Toshiba
Tecra A4). However, I noticed recently that my iwi driver goes up and
down frequently then suddenly it stops working. When I check dmesg it says:
iwi0: could not allocate firmware DMA memory

Earlier on 6.1-RELEASE, I was able to overcome this problem by unloading
the if_iwi driver, switch of the iwi button, turn it back on and load
the driver. However, this is not possible on -CURRENT (Mon Jul 17
20:06:47 AST 2006) as the moment I unload the driver, it gets
automagically loaded!

Any ideas to overcome this?

First, make sure your ports system is up to date. Then install
'portmanager' if it is not already installed.

Now, run this command, as root obviously:

  portmanager deskutils/taskjuggler -l -f

This will build the port, and force building of all of its dependencies.
A log file will be created: /var/log/portmanager.log that you can
inspect after the build is finished.

[...]

  Good luck!

This problem has been solved by installing deskutils/kde3pim first then
installing taskjuggler will go through, at least it solved it for me :)

Thanks a lot for all those who tried to help and especially Christopher
Chin :)

TaskJugglerUI starts fine now and I can see the interface :D,
however, whenever I try to type in the name of a new created project it
fails saying:
/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: /usr/X11R6/lib/libqt-mt.so.3: Undefined symbol
pthread_attr_init

I think it is a simple thing related to libraries, so I'm trying to
pkgdb -F now and let's see what happens after that

I am not sure, but here is where yo could start.

Clear out your /tmp and /var/tmp directory. Next, remove all of the
special flags in the /etc/make.conf file. Actually, I am not sure if
that will make a difference, but you have nothing in there that are
really required. You can leave the cputype flag though as well as the
ones set by the system, i.e.; perl.

Done but without changing my /etc/make.conf

Now I would recommend rebooting. Again, maybe not really necessary, but
I have seen where this has made a difference.

Upon reboot, update your ports system completely. I would also suggest
that you navigate to /usr/ports/distfiles and delete everything there.

Done

I noticed this entry in the 'portmanager' log file:

 Sat Jun 3 20:54:33 2006
  options changed so returninglibusb-0.1.12
 /devel/libusbto out of date pool

I am not sure exactly what it refers to though. After updating the ports
tree, navigate to that directory and run as root:

 make config

After updating to 6.1-RELEASE, this directory /devel is not there!

Try running portsclean -C again to make sure your ports tree is clean
and then try building just this one port:

 make install make clean.

I did portsclean -C then cd /usr/ports/deskutils/taskjuggler make
install and this is what I got:

portmanager keeps on reinstalling the same port

2006-06-03 Thread Yousef Raffah
excuse the n00b in me but I'm trying to install a port using portmanager
as installing it the traditional (make install clean) way failed and the
one of the cool guys on the list here suggested to use portmanager to
resolve the problem.

I have synced my ports as of today morning and tried to launch:
# portmanager deskutils/taskjuggler -l -f

the thing is, portmanager kicks out and tries to reinstall lang/perl5.8,

You are telling 'portmanager' to rebuild your entire system when you use
 the '-f' switch.

To install just this one port, run the program like this:

 portmanager deskutils/taskjuggler -l -y
I did that and here is the latest output I got from portmanager:

Should I update the dependencies manually? Isn't portmanager supposed to
update those dependencies?

If you have 'portupgrade' installed, you might want to run 'portsclean':

 portsclean -C -L

first to make sure that you have cleaned out any old work before
 starting a new installation.

I did that and it cleaned some stuff :) Thanks for sharing the
information.

I have tried to use portmanager deskutils/taskjuggler -l -f and it did
update many ports for me, however it is saying that it skipped a couple
of packages as per the below log. On the other hand, I wanted to make
sure my packages are all updated so I also ran portupgrade -a and it
seems that all my ports are updated now. However, portmanager still
shows some packages need to be update while I'm sure they already are,
perl-5.8.8 for example.

No Buffer Space Available

2006-04-24 Thread Yousef Raffah
Hello..

Please forgive me for being quite new to FreeBSD...

I noticed while I'm trying to monitor my network from my laptop while
running fragrouter -B1 and trying to monitor the connections coming to
and going from another machine on the same network through ettercap or
ethereal that I get a lot of No buffer space available messages as
following:

SEND L3 ERROR: 1500 byte packet (0800:06) destined to 192.168.1.4 was
not forwarded (libnet_write_raw_ipv4(): -1 bytes written (No buffer
space available)
)

I even was not able to nmap the other machine.

I was trying to run these test over my iwi0 card and I'm on FreeBSD
6.1-RC

While googling I found several posts about setting certain kernel
parameters with sysctl and stuff can help but I didn't really get the
clear picture of the problem and how it can be resolved, if it is
considered a problem. Or is it the iwi0 doesn't handle much load?

Thanks in advance for any input
