Hi! I have to used FreeBSD 10.0-ALPHA1 for a while but it was to difficult for me. I run FreeBSD on iMac 11,1 which has: Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 4850 Type: GPU Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 512 MB Vendor: ATI (0x1002) Device ID:0x944a Revision ID: 0x ROM Revision: 113-B9110C-425 EFI Driver Version: 01.00.383 Displays: iMac: Display Type: LCD Resolution: 2560 x 1440 Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB) Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Built-In: Yes Connection Type: DisplayPort On FreeBSD 10.0-ALPHA1 it worked very good but for me 3D is not important. I installed FreeBSD 9.2 one hour ago without problem and run portsnap fetch extract and I like to install Xorg and KDE. Do I need to have in make.conf with_new_xorg=yes, please? Does xorg t need hal?. Does anyone has Radeon 4850 GPU type, please and it works? I had problems with sound settings on CURRENT and I note that will be better now. Thank you very much. The idea is to make sure that RELEASE can be shipped with installation media (CD, DVD) for offline use which requires ports mostly to be tested and working in some specific state, and then the packages (those you can access on the installation media) are generated from them. It's handy for systems that do not have Internet access to install software off-line. It happened all the time and after update (if you update or not) there are so many ports for updating. In case for very long waiting for version 9.1 will be thousands of them. That could probably be. Most users who have Internet access and run servers (and also home systems) will tend to update the OS beyond RELEASE and also do so with the ports collection, or alternatively also use pkg_add -r from the Latest/ directory instead of RELEASE (which _always_ contains the ports generated from the frozen ports tree). Thank you very much. BTW: packages are almost all the time outdated. On Saturday 03 November 2012 14:11:22 you wrote: BTW: packages are almost all the time outdated. The packages in the RELEASE directory and on the installation media meet the frozen ports tree (frozen _prior_ to the release date), so yes, they are a bit outdated, but they are considered mostly stable and usable when in use with what is distributed. On the server, both _those_ packages _and_ those in Latest/ (which are periodically built from the advancing ports tree after the release date) are often considered not _that_ current as if you would use CVS or SVN to obtain the bleeding edge latest ports tree and build from source. I didn't complain about bleeding edge sofware which we anywhere don't have (Gimp, Xorg, LibreOffice and all dependencies for those applications and more and more which I don't use and I don't need) but I complain about freezing ports too early before new release came out and after that rebuilt 5000 ports for example just because png new version is coming out. graphics card
Hi! I have an old computer but it works good still :). I use KDE and GIMP and I like to use Krita more but a problem is graphics card and it is slow (Gimp is okay). I have ASUS P4P800 mother board and ATI Radeon 9000 AGP graphics card. I look for some Nvidia AGP cards (opengl 2.0) but the problem is because my motherboard AGP supports +1.5V only. I'm assuming authors have bumped their ports' revision numbers to force a rebuild, using the patched openssl lib. There might be a little of that, but most of the recent activity is accounted for by * Numerous ports moving to the new OPTIONSng framework * Hundreds of PORTREVISION bumps after an update to graphics/png * Removal of old koffice ports and the import of the Calligra office suite to replace it. Maybe you have left out an important step when upgrading from v8 to v9. See /usr/src/Makefile's comment header: [...] 7. `make installworld' 8. `make delete-old' 9. `mergemaster'(you may wish to use -i, along with -U or -F). 10. `reboot' 11. `make delete-old-libs' (in case no 3rd party program uses them anymore) Steps 8 and 11 are important here. In case you've not removed the libs from v8, Opera still seems to link against them even though the version does not match anymore. Make sure you have performed the upgrading steps properly before rebuilding Opera. This is important when rebuilding installed applications after system upgrade (unless you have installed the compat8x-i386-x.y.* port and _not_ installed any further applications). Running memtest is a great diagnostic for bad memory. It's good that it passed; so this suggests thermal problems, or less likely, a marginal power supply unit which can't handle full load. prime95 / mprime has a diagnostic mode which lets you fully load up both CPU and memory resources, and might be better suited to identifying a problem if memtest didn't find anything Regards, Thank you very much. printer - broadband router
Hi! My system: FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE-p1 #0m I use KDE 4.6.5 CUPS and HPLIP are installed. I have an old broadband router D-604 (dlink), cable Internet and my computer with FreeBSD and the other one with Windows are connected to the router.
