9.2

2013-09-30 Thread ajtiM
Hi!

I have to used FreeBSD 10.0-ALPHA1 for a while but it was to difficult for me.
I run FreeBSD on iMac 11,1 which has:
Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 4850
  Type: GPU
  Bus: PCIe
  PCIe Lane Width: x16
  VRAM (Total): 512 MB
  Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
  Device ID:0x944a
  Revision ID: 0x
  ROM Revision: 113-B9110C-425
  EFI Driver Version: 01.00.383
  Displays:
iMac:
  Display Type: LCD
  Resolution: 2560 x 1440
  Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB)
  Main Display: Yes
  Mirror: Off
  Online: Yes
  Built-In: Yes
  Connection Type: DisplayPort

On FreeBSD 10.0-ALPHA1 it worked very good but for me 3D is not important. I
installed FreeBSD 9.2 one hour ago without problem and run portsnap fetch
extract and I like to install Xorg and KDE. Do I need to have in make.conf
with_new_xorg=yes, please? Does xorg t need hal?. Does anyone has Radeon
4850 GPU type, please and it works?
I had problems with sound settings on CURRENT and I note that will be better
now.

Thank you very much.

I didn't installed yet Xorg and I don't know how will be with radeon drivers. I

Installation was so smooth. I had rEFIt installed and on the end of FreeBSD

:).

The key word is snapshot for portsnap. If you're updating every
couple hours, you'll want svn instead. A snapshot is just a state in
time, periodic but not continuous. I don't know off hand how often the
 portsnap snapshot is updated.

At least that might be the reason why smartd doesn't

FreeBSD 9.1-RELEASE #0 r243826: Tue Dec 4 06:55:39 UTC 2012
r...@obrian.cse.buffalo.edu:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386

and I use Skype 2.1.0.81 from ports.

When I am using Skype, the conversation often (every 1-5 minutes)
gets disconnected or better I hear but the other side doesn't hear me.
I know that long time ago the line kern.hz=100 in loader.conf help me but it
doesn't work anymore.
I start using my Androind phone and I don't have any problem. The friend also
talking with people from Europe and USA which they have Linux or Windows and
it works.

Thanks in advance...

opera - ghostery

2013-02-12 Thread ajtiM
Hi!

I am an Opera user long time and I use extension Ghostery long time too but
now on Opera 12.14 I had a problem with Ghostery wizard setting each time when
I start Opera. When I exit Opera I use Tool-Delete Private Data where I have
checked everything except Delete settings and data for all extensions.
I uninstalled all other extension but the problem persist.

Thanks in advance.

freebsd-carddeck-kde4

2013-02-05 Thread ajtiM
Now that games/freebsd-carddeck-kde4 is DEPRECATED, would it make sense
to remove the FREEBSD option from games/kdegames4?

I installed KDE 4.9.5 from are51, today I run portmaster -a and it stopped
because games/freebsd-carddeck-kde4 is DEPRECATED.
How could I solved this problem, please? I didn't find any pkg freebsd-

ports, area51

2013-02-03 Thread ajtiM
Hi!

I have installed KDE 4.9.5 and Calligra 2.5.5 from area51.
I am not sure how is working:
I use portsnap which update ports and KDE 4.9.5 ports are merged. Last time I
saw many update for KDE 4.8.4 which update KDE 4.9.5 ports and so on.
Does anyone knows when KDE 4.9.5 will be out in ports? They said after FreeBSD
9.1 but when should be the date for after?

Thank you.

(Go to opera:config by typing in the address bar. Then in the
search field (one with magnifying lend), type toolkit. You will
then see only File Selector: Dialog Toolkit option. When you click
the [?] icon, you will the values (0-4) and short explanation.)

With that out of way, option value 4 tells opera to use X11 for
file selector instead of auto detected one, Qt, GTK, or KDE one.

Seems like any or all of opera, kde, png library need to be rebuilt,
possibly along with other respective dependencies. Sorry, I couldn't
be of much help with this.

Looks like Opera has problem autodetect on KDE but not in Fluxbox.

Thank you very much for explanation.

This is because Fluxbox is neither KDE or Gnome. :-)

But simply coredumping is a bad default value for how to act
when not using KDE or Gnome. I'm using Opera on WindowMaker
here for many years without that specific error (11.50 at the

How can it be possible? 3 years now that I use FreeBSD there was not even a
single day that we didn't have updates in the ports tree. How can it be
possible for two consecutive days to have No updates needed.?

 Something is wrong...

 Regards

We have updates but I red somewhere about problem with server. Should be nice
to the users if someone sent email to mailing list about a problem.

Hi!

Is it something wrong with portsnap server or is something wrong with my
system. When I run portsnap...:
portsnap fetch update
Looking up portsnap.FreeBSD.org mirrors... 6 mirrors found.
Fetching snapshot tag from your-org.portsnap.freebsd.org... done.
Latest snapshot on server matches what we already have.
No updates needed.

but on http://www.freshports.org/ are many new ports (I like update Sage).

Thanks in advance.

before new version

2012-11-03 Thread ajtiM
Hi!

Could someone explain, please why ports should be frozen before a new version
of FreeBSD came out?
It happened all the time and after update (if you update or not) there are so
many ports for updating. In case for very long waiting for version 9.1 will be
thousands of them.

Thank you very much.

The idea is to make sure that RELEASE can be shipped with
installation media (CD, DVD) for offline use which requires
ports mostly to be tested and working in some specific state,
and then the packages (those you can access on the installation
media) are generated from them. It's handy for systems that
do not have Internet access to install software off-line.

That could probably be. Most users who have Internet access
and run servers (and also home systems) will tend to update
the OS beyond RELEASE and also do so with the ports collection,
or alternatively also use pkg_add -r from the Latest/ directory
instead of RELEASE (which _always_ contains the ports generated
 from the frozen ports tree).

Thank you very much.

BTW: packages are almost all the time outdated.

On Saturday 03 November 2012 14:11:22 you wrote:

BTW: packages are almost all the time outdated.

The packages in the RELEASE directory and on the installation
media meet the frozen ports tree (frozen _prior_ to the release
date), so yes, they are a bit outdated, but they are considered
mostly stable and usable when in use with what is distributed.
On the server, both _those_ packages _and_ those in Latest/ (which
are periodically built from the advancing ports tree after the
release date) are often considered not _that_ current as if you
would use CVS or SVN to obtain the bleeding edge latest ports
 tree and build from source.

I didn't complain about bleeding edge sofware which we anywhere don't have
(Gimp, Xorg, LibreOffice and all dependencies for those applications and more
and more which I don't use and I don't need) but I complain about freezing
ports too early before new release came out and after that rebuilt 5000 ports
for example just because png new version is coming out. Or am I wrong?

So yes, you could say what you said. :-)

And the other problem is that I have in the router logs IP 184.58.138.79.

clang version 3.0 (branches/release_30 142614) 20111021
I installed lang/clang which is 3.1 and I have it in /usr/local/bin:
clang version 3.1 (branches/release_31)
Target: i386-portbld-freebsd9.0

In /etc/make.conf I have:
CC=clang
CXX=clang++
CPP=clang-cpp

Today I try to build with /usr/local/bin/clang which is 3.1 and it works for
graphics/opengtl but it didn't work for multimedia/cuse4bsd-kmod 0.1.24 and
than I change back as I wrote above in make.conf and everythink works and I
rebuilt opengtl whith clang 3.0 and it works.

Is it important just update llvm to 3.1 on FreeBSD 9.0 Rel;ease, please? Do I
need to pkg_delete lang/clang?

Thank in advance.

I'm assuming authors have bumped their ports' revision numbers to force
a rebuild, using the patched openssl lib.

There might be a little of that, but most of the recent activity is
 accounted for by

* Numerous ports moving to the new OPTIONSng framework

* Hundreds of PORTREVISION bumps after an update to graphics/png

* Removal of old koffice ports and the import of the Calligra office
  suite to replace it.

   Cheers,

My system is FreeBSD 9.0 Release and the lst time I use Clang. It works very
good but the lst problem was with Calligra which didn't built.

As I red in /usr/ports/UPDATING I ran portmaster -r png- and there are so many
ports which should be rebuild.
My question is: Is it better (safer) to use gcc or try clang? Or is it better
to not update png?

I think you need to reinstall Opera so it will be linked
against the current version libz.so.6. Maybe you have
left out an important step when upgrading from v8 to v9.
 See /usr/src/Makefile's comment header:

 [...]
  7. `make installworld'
  8. `make delete-old'
  9. `mergemaster'(you may wish to use -i, along with -U or
 -F). 10. `reboot'
 11. `make delete-old-libs' (in case no 3rd party program uses them
 anymore)

Steps 8 and 11 are important here.

In case you've not removed the libs from v8, Opera still
seems to link against them even though the version does
 not match anymore.

Make sure you have performed the upgrading steps properly
before rebuilding Opera. This is important when rebuilding
installed applications after system upgrade (unless you
have installed the compat8x-i386-x.y.* port and _not_
 installed any further applications).

I didn't update version 8 to 9. I mage new install of FreeBSD 9.0-RC3 and than
I use freebsd-update upgrade to FreeBSD-RELEASE.
I did reinstall Opera two times and it is the same.

I don't know whey LibreeOffice didn't saw that I have libjawt.so?

The cleanest solution is to forgo qt/kde, but
then you're slightly more limited in what you
   can use for office-type stuff.

   The question remains:

How is a user-started process (e. g. when you run
the startx command) supposed to create directory
entries and files on root level /, a thing that
only root and root-like users (and programs!)
   should be allowed to?

  % mkdir /.config
  mkdir: /.config: Permission denied

As a normal user, you _intendedly_ can't do this.
Why would you assume that a program you start
   can do it?

I don't have any QT/KDE stuff but isn't kdm suid
  ( owned by root)?

That could be the reason: kdm, belonging to the
KDE world and quite probably using Qt, running
with the permissions to access /.

You could temporarily try to disable kdm and
replace it by xdm, or no display login manager
at all. In that case, /.config shouldn't appear
 anymore.

I don't know because I don't use kdm and I don't see that kdm running. I have
ksplah but not kdm and I have or re-create directory if I deleted in:
/
/root
and in the user directory which should be. And it is happened when I start kde
with 'startx as user and .config isd recreated evrywhere..
In .xinitrc I have just:
PATH=/usr/local/kde4/bin:$PATH

export PATH

startkde

2011-11-26 Thread ajtiM
Hi!

On my new installed 9.0-RC2 FreeBSD 9.0-RC2 #0: Sat Nov 12 18:09:11 UTC 2011

r...@obrian.cse.buffalo.edu:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386 and KDE 4.7.3 I
installed with make install krecipes-kde4 and because I didn't like it I
deinstall with make deinstall which I did many times before on FreeBSD 8.2
with KDE 4.7.2.
Deinstallation looks like works but I got also:
/usr/local/kde4/share is not in the search path of XDG_DATA_STORAGE and
XDG_DATA_DIRS.

I never had this before.

Thanks in advance...

9.0-RC2 is (probably) going to be very similar indeed to the eventual
9.0-RELEASE. There will be some bug fixes yet to go in, but it is
unlikely these will be show-stoppers. RC2 is not unsafe and there's
no reason not to install it for learning or evaluation or development
purposes. I wouldn't advise using it for anything your livelihood
depends on though. Plan on upgrading to -RELEASE as soon as possible if
 you do play with -RC2.

However, you're unlikely to have a pleasant experience if you've got
dodgy RAM in your machine. All bets are off if the computer cannot rely
on getting the correct data back from RAM. I wouldn't even try booting
up a live CD unless the memory problems have been fixed.

   Cheers,

Hi!

One more question before I start installing FreeBSD 9.0 RC-2.
Now we have a new bsdinstall and as I red and if I understood correct there is
also SU journaling file sistem. I will switch to the GPT partion. If I want to
have SU-j file system is it enough that I just choose this option and voila?
And another question is about ports. There is an option ports tree which is

Yes. I think so. 'options UFS_GJOURNAL' is present in GENERIC kernel
config. If you use GENERIC kernel, it is there.

Sure. portsnap is designed to work with the ports tree.
Thank you and one more, please...

Partitioning: if I choose guided than I got:
freebsd-boot
freebsd-ufs /
freebsd-swap

If I press enter on freebsd-ufs / than I got options to make moe partitions.
Is it okay that I make /, /var, /tmp and /usr as I have now.

You'll need it in case you're using Linux ABI stuff, and
if I remember correctly, this is required for the Opera
 Flash plugin.

I'm using such a combination here. That's why I have

 # Device Mountpoint FStype Options Dump Pass

 linproc /compat/linux/proc linprocfsrw 00

 in /etc/fstab. This requires

   options LINSYSFS

in your kernel config, or load the corresponding kernel
 modules. The line

Thank you.
But as I nderstand the Opera should be FreeBSD native. I didn't installed

It's good that it passed; so this suggests thermal problems, or less

smartmontools

2011-11-03 Thread ajtiM
Hi!

Today I installed smartmontools on FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE-p3. In the
smartd.conf I changed just DEVICESCAN -a and I have in /var/log/messages:

acd0: FAILURE - ATA_IDENTIFY status=51READY,DSC,ERROR error=4ABORTED

Do I need to setup something else in the smartd.conf or is something wrong
with my HD, please?

Thanks in advance.

First thank you for the Libreoffice 3.4.3_1.

I built it with systray support, enable in the options and it doesn't work on
my FreeBSD 8.2, KDE 4.6.5.

Thanks.

printer - broadband router

2011-07-19 Thread ajtiM
Hi!

My system: FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE-p1 #0m I use KDE 4.6.5
CUPS and HPLIP are installed.
I have an old broadband router D-604 (dlink), cable Internet and my computer
with FreeBSD and the other one with Windows are connected to the router.
I got HP bussiness inkjet 5000 which was connected to the network (my work).
And the last one: I never had printer on my computer with FreeBSD and looks
like is not so easy to setup.

I just run HP Device Manager and it didn't find anything but light where is
printer connected blink.

How can I start, please.

gcc 4.4.7

2011-07-16 Thread ajtiM
Hi!

I decided to switch from portmaster to portupgrade and pkddb -F show many
stale dependencies on gcc-4.4.5.20110503 (lang/gcc44).

Do I need to put new dependencies to gcc-4.5.4.20110630 or something else,
please?
For portmaster I put IGNOREMI+ line and it works but I don't know how to do
with portupgrade.

Thanks in advance.

IMO Ekiga is not good replacemnet for Skype. I comunicate with many Windows

To do so you'd have to have a rooted Android system to change the
routing. They're not designed to operate like that.

As for the driver- I posted before that its a project to do...

BTW can anyone confirm 8.3 release date and driver support for iPhone
and/or Android? Although I'm reasonably sure iPhone uses a very
different method than Android from my research.
