Postfix/receiving mail through router problem
FreeBSD 4.8 Release hijra.homeunix.com Checking all the postfix conf files and everything seems to be in the right place. Thou this is my first time setting up a mail server so it's a learning experience for me. There are no errors in any of the log files anywhere. Telneting to port 143 and 25 everything is working fine. So I figured it must be a problem with my router I think. Checking maillog shows that mail is being queued coming in and I can send with no problem. My router is configure to automactically updated my ip to dyndns.org and it's assigned the same hostname hijra.homeunix.com as my machine. /usr/local/etc/postfix/main.cf myhostname = hijra.homeunix.com mydomain = hijra.homeunix.com mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, hijra.homeunix.com /etc/aliases alias_maps = dbm:/etc/aliases alias_database = dbm:/etc/aliases Hope this is enough information. Gnu assembler + FBSD4.8
Having trouble finding the name of the gnu assembler I thought it was name gas. But trying to use the pkg system it couldn't fetch the pkg. Is it called something else besides the Gnu Assembler. I have used nasm, but was wanting to give the Gnu Assembler a spin. Thanks in advance :D Suppressed minds have no Freedom of Choice - Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! dynamic DNS + mailserver
First I like to know if a mailserver such as postfix can run using dynamic DNS. I using dyndns.org for Dynamic DNS and trying to run postfix with a hostname of hijra.homeunix.com. Sense installing postfix system mail that normally goes to root is now not even generated by system is this a sendmail only thing or does postfix generate system mail to root as well. After fixing alot of the problems that I had still got this one which is driving me insane. Whenever I send a mesg to [EMAIL PROTECTED] maillog shows the mesg as being queue and sent to maildir. #mail 0 messages for tweaxor # pine 0 messages in INBOX Do I have to modify any files that where used by sendmail to get it find the mail. In /usr/local/etc/postfix/main.cf myhostname=hijra.homeunix.com myorgin=$mydomain mydomain=hijra.homeunix.com #postfix check shows nothing Thanks for your time and consideration = Suppressed minds have no Freedom of Choice __ Do you Yahoo!? postfix with dynamic DNS
After installing postfix + courier-imap I can send messages but can't recieve them. Using dyndns.org my the problem I think lies whenever I check root's system. There a fatal warning message to root about tweax-def.net unable to resolve host name error. Which was a hostname I never registered, but use during installation of FBSD 4.6 then cvsp 4.8. I change it to hijra.homeunix.com which is on all out going mail. #hostname shows hijra.homeunix.com but rebooting when the kernel loads I notice it mentions the tweax-def.net as hostname. Checked named.conf, /usr/local/etc/postfix/main.cf, rc.conf. and there is no mention of this anywhere. Is there anywhere else I might have overlooked. OK, let's do some DNS checks: # host hijra.homeunix.com hijra.homeunix.com has address 66.136.178.42 # dig hijra.homeunix.com SOA ; <<>> DiG 8.3 <<>> hijra.homeunix.com SOA ;; res options: init recurs defnam dnsrch ;; got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 2 ;; flags: qr aa rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 1, ADDITIONAL: 0 ;; QUERY SECTION: ;; hijra.homeunix.com, type = SOA, class = IN ;; AUTHORITY SECTION: homeunix.com. 30M IN SOA ns1.dyndns.org. hostmaster.dyndns.org. ( 2002043347 ; serial 3H ; refresh 30M ; retry 1W ; expiry 30M ) ; minimum It looks like homeunix.com is a domain whose DNS server is ns1.dyndns.org, and hijra.homeunix.com is a host in that domain, with address 66.136.178.42. Furthermore, it looks like hijra.homeunix.com is not a subdomain, but just a single host (represented by A record in homeunix.com zone). Hence it makes no sense to try to be authoritative for hijra.homeunix.com domain, because this domain doesn't exist. Anyway, having a domain or even MX record is not required to be able to receive mail. If mail is sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED], then the sender's mail server first tries to look up MX record for hijra.homeunix.com, which fails. Then the sender's mail server tries to look up A record for hijra.homeunix.com, which succeeds. Hence, the mail sent to hijra.homeunix.com should be sent to 66.136.178.42. If that is the address of your server, you should get it. > When I send a mesg to [EMAIL PROTECTED] I > never receive it > postqueue -p shows 0 mesgs. Or at least I think they can't Toomas, phaza7 is not a user on in the smtp but tweaxor is root never recieved any mail. DNS and SMTP problem
I been wroking on this for the better of three weeks on my own with little success. I have a caching name server up and running and was trying to change it into a master name server with a www record and a mx record. I believe this is the problem that I'm having with postfix not be able to recieve mail but can send with no problem. I have studied the handbook and the BIND and DNS book. And coming from a Windows background I really don't understand what it's saying. So would setting up a Authoriative name server have anything to do with postfix acting up. Also have courier-imap installed with no problems wondering would these possibly fixed my problem = Suppressed minds have no Freedom of Choice __ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo!
