carefull confirm on using linux_base-fc8

2009-05-05 Thread vuthecuong

Hi all
I just did a clean install of freebsd 7.2 final release (I not enable linux
compatibility during install).
In first boot, I enabled linux compatibilitty with linux_base-fc8 as below:

Add linux_enable=”YES” to /etc/rc.conf.
Add compat.linux.osrelease=2.6.16 to /etc/sysctl.conf.
Add OVERRIDE_LINUX_BASE_PORT=f8 to /etc/make.conf.
Add this line to /etc/fstab:
linproc /usr/compat/linux/proc linprocfs rw 0 0
mkdir -p /usr/compat/linux/proc
mount /usr/compat/linux/proc
/etc/rc.d/abi start
/etc/rc.d/sysctl start
cd /usr/ports/emulators/linux_base-f8 && make install clean

When 'make install clean' in port 'linux_base-f8', I saw that it retrieved
files (rpm etc) from
fc8 directory on the net. However, when I install net/skype, I saw that it
retrieved files (rpm etc)
from fc4 on the net (sorry for my bad English).
(I still not installed X yet so I cannot very fied my skype will run fine or
not).
So my question is: is it normal or abnormal when 'make install ' retrieved
files (rpm etc)
from fc4, not from fc8 althought I already enabled linux_base-f8?

If it is abnormal, how can I solve it?
Thanks and regards

Hi all
Firstly I'm terribly sorry for wrongly posted question not related to
freebsd.
I will pay attention so that this wrong posting will not occurr again.
This is my fault.

But I admit that freebsd-questions mailing list is really really very active
mailing list which is have not only guru in OS itself but many many
professionials of apps/servers running on top of it. (In fact I also posted
this to imagemagick-nabble and imagemagick forum also, the result is I
always get most useful/friendly/step-by-step answers from freebsd-questions
that I can not reveive from the others).
Once again, sorry you.
Best regards,

PS: But one thing I still could not understand is that in the past, the
others and I posted many many questions about Gnome, KDE, xfce, fluxbox,
php, java, squid, clamav, tripwire, anything but no any complaints, right?

Blocking a port with PF is really basic. If you have to ask you would
be better-off reading about PF first, before you do anything.

[2]http://www.openbsd.org/faq/pf/index.html

Well, he could block, but transparently doing it without annoying users is
better(tm).

Vuthecuong, the following line will redirect traffic from the local net to
port 80 on the internet to squid on port 3128:
rdr on $int_if proto tcp from $int_if:network to any port www -> \
   $int_addr port 3128

where $int_if is the internal interface, $int_addr the address on the internal
interface squid listens on and $ext_if the external interface.

There's a full article on how to set this up, here:

Just wanted to add a "me too". Exactly the same problem.
Working - portupgrade /var/db/pkg/phpMyAdmin-xx - not working.

Haven't had time to investigate yet.
6.2, PHP 4.4.7, Apache22, Jailed.

I read somewhere about a problem running PHP with Suhosin-Patch within
a jail (which I am), maybe thats the problem..

Are you accessing using phpMyAdmin over an HTTPS link? The above line
in the log file seems to indicate some problem with the HTTPS
configuration. (Possibly not, I'm just asking to eliminate that).

I would also suggest turning ON some logging in your php.ini file.
That way we could get more info on what's causing the error. (That's
what I'd do if I had an error message like this).

Hope that helps.

Without rather more detail than that, I'm afraid it is impossible to
say exactly what the problem is. We'd need to see what is recorded
in the error log.

Those error messages will be logged to the apache error log --
/var/log/httpd-error.log is the default location.

There's no need to remove KDE just to install/try GNOME (unless you're
short on storage, of course).

Are you *sure* you want to uninstall *all* KDE-related apps?

install activestate komodo in freebsd 6.2

2007-07-19 Thread vuthecuong

I'm very interesting in this article:
http://www.kiffinsblog.com/archives...lling_komo.html
I searched Googled but could not find linux libcpp5 tarball.
Could anyone give me the link of it?
Tnx

The article is as below:
Installing Komodo IDE 4.0 on FreeBSD ~ FreeBSD

After struggling awhile with the installation of Komodo on my FreeBSD
6.2 system, I *finally* was successful in getting it up-and-running.
Therefore I would like to share my experiences in the hopes that in the
future it may be helpful for some other fellow FreeBSD-er.

Installation:

1. Download the linux libcpp5 tarball.
2. Unpack and cd into extracted dirtectory.
3. As root run ./install.sh
4. Choose install directory: /usr/compat/linux/opt/Komodo-IDE-4.0
5. As root cd /usr/compat/linux/opt/Komodo-IDE-4.0
6. For the bin, share and lib directories do the following:
1. chmod -R +x dirname
2. chmod -R -s dirname
3. chmod -R -t dirname
4. chmod -R +r dirname
7. Download the license and install on Windows or Linux (not FreeBSD)
8. Copy ~/.ActiveState/ActiveState.lic and place in ~/.ActiveState directory
9. Komodo can now be started as:
/usr/compat/linux/opt/Komodo-IDE-4.0/bin/komodo

You can now create a quick launcher by using one of the images found in:
/usr/compat/linux/opt/Komodo-IDE-4.0/share/icons/

If I don't buy a domain being 'sold' by a domain reseller, so how can I

You don't want to buy a domain (or at least not in the first place).
The thing you need is a static IP address, first, and that's not being
'sold' by a domain reseller / registrar.

As soon as you've got a static IP address (either provider independent
or not) you may either 1) let a DNS A entry from your domain point to
this IP address or 2) still use dyndns.org (even with static IP
addresses).

There is another thing you have to consider. As it is explained in
http://www.bsdforums.org/forums/showthread.php?p=265093#post265093
your dynamic IP has been black listed (the IP was used before by
someone else who sent SPAM, so now the IP is in a list of bad guys and
many mail server will refuse to receive emails from your IP).

So it is really a better idea that you sent all your email thought FPT
email server.

Best regards,

Olivier

OK I understood, this is one lession I learned today: In order to run
"real" mail server,

fixed IP address for forward and reverse DNS is must-have.
I will choose method of relaying through ISP though I prefer the first one.
Tnx you very much.

I registered a DynamicIP at dyndns.com: www.thecuong.gotdns.com

In Freebsd 6.2, I have also postfix MTA. Currently my clients have mail

[EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]
With this mail addressed, I cand send/receive mail from/to my company,
Yahoo etc.
But my postfix only can receive mails from freebsd-questions mailing
list, it can not send

mail to this.
I recognized that the cause of this problem is that my DNS (on Freebsd
6.2) not

reverse lookup as freebsd-questions requiried in order to prevent spam.
Freebsd-questions is currently treats [EMAIL PROTECTED],
[EMAIL PROTECTED] as spam. When mail fom these addressed come,
it rejected.

I suggest that now I will attached zone file and reverse file,
then could you help me check and let me know what's wrong?
Pls help me, I really need your help.

Who is assigning the dynamic IP ?

Dynamic DNS only works with DHCP: DCHP gives and IP to a machine and
then it informes DNS that it has given that IP and that now the DNS
should update its synamic tables accordingly. You cannot have dynamic
DNS working alone (well I think so).

Plus the DNS server that holds dynamic reccords should be at a fixed
IP address (I never heard of a DNS server on a machine with dynamic
IP, that sounds way to unstable to me).
