Michael Check out Fujitsu's P-series notebooks. 10.2 screen with a max resolution of 1280x768. I've got a 2040 with 5.2.1 running on it. XFree86 is a no-brainer to setup. I recommend the IBM X-series as they are small and still quite sexy. If cost is more of a concern, however, sam's club here in the states (where I'm kind of assuming you are) often has smallish laptops for ~1000USD new.
