IP bandwidth

2004-07-01 Thread John Lee
dear all,

i'm using a freebsd 4.10-stable server with 50 IP addresses.
Is there any program i can install that will be able to tell me:

- how much bandwidth (ie. kbps) each individual IP is using?

trafcount seems to count total traffic only, any idea?

thanks.

Try using the log functions of the ipfw system

ipfw add log ip from any to

an entry for each address would log all traffic to/from that address

Cheers

I.e.
ipfw + rrdtools or mrtg
from ports (net-mgnt):
netramet, bandwidthd

Any of these make real time statistics like iptraf under linux. I also
need something like this for both general interface (realtime) statistics
and for traffic monitorring (i can use tcpdump for this but it would be
nice to have both caracteristics in one program).

I've used /usr/ports/net-mgmt/darkstat in the past on my home network. Its
pretty simplistic but it might be of use.

Per-IP Bandwidth Monitoring

2013-06-08 Thread Kenta Suzumoto
Hello. I'm running a FreeBSD machine with 5 IP addresses, each of them attached
to a specific jail. I'm wondering if there is an easy way to monitor the
bandwidth usage of each of them individually. Upon googling, I ran into a lot
of suggestions like bandwidthd. I gave it a try and it seemed very broken and
basically didn't work at all. I'm basically looking for a "vnstat that works
per IP instead of per interface" kind of thing. jnettop wasn't what I was
looking for. It doesn't have to make pretty graphs(but that's nice too), just
human-readable text is fine. Anyone have a recommendation?

Some links I came across that were unhelpful:

Try this patch:

https://cgit.delphij.net/freebsd/patch/?id=39c6ec81eb015ed6788c203a1aea6148f813d063

We haven't merged it to -HEAD only because it's not clear how much
overhead this would incur.

IPFW with pipes. No graphs.

man ipfw

TRAFFIC SHAPER CONFIGURATION
The ipfw pipe, queue and sched commands are used to configure the
traffic

shaper and packet scheduler. See the TRAFFIC SHAPER (DUMMYNET)
 CONFIGURATION Section below for details.

If the world and the kernel get out of sync the ipfw ABI may
break, pre-
venting you from being able to add any rules. This can adversely
effect

the booting process. You can use ipfw disable firewall to temporarily
disable the firewall to regain access to the network, allowing you
to fix

 the problem.

I was using sysutils/ipa for this. It works with IPFW and also with PF, I
think, I have just used it with ipfw, worked pretty fine. It also supports all
sorts of reporting.

IP Bandwidth Usage Monitoring Question

2003-10-19 Thread Jason L. Schwab
Heya Folks;

I have a machine with several ip addresses where users run alot of
different services, and I am wondeirng if anyone knows a way or
some recommended software than can monitor the inbound and
outbound bandwidth usage per ip-address.

I have SNMPd and MRTG setup, but that just does the entire machine
as a whole, which is useful also, but I need to know per ip, as
its one ip per customer for the bigger users, and there the ones
I need to know, so I can doing billing, etc, etc.

Let me know you folks thoughts, thanks very much!

I've never done any of this sort of thing, but
wouldn't, e.g., mrtg be able to handle this fine
just by diverting each address of interest over a
separate divert socket? It doesn't scale well,
of course...

Check out ipa in the ports.

/usr/ports/sysutils/ipa

Requires a firewall though.
