One senseful action would be, copy /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc
into your home directory as .xinitrc and change the
line 'twm' into your favourite window manager.

You did neither read the documentation carefully enough
nor ask a good question.

pkg_delete -rx XFree

Try man pkg_delete first :-)

No thanks. Therefore we're here :-)

A more direct subject line would help.

Why not try startx at your command prompt?
If .xinitrc is not there, why not make it?

I run blackbox, and I have the following in the file ~/.xsession :

  rxvt -sl 3000 -fn 8x16 &
  exec blackbox

PLS answer my question!

2003-11-06 Thread Valerian Galeru
I installed x windows with sysinstall, then i installed blackbox (a window manager).
Then if x server is not started and i execute blackbox command i get a error like
this: x server not started something like this. If i start xserver and then run the
blackbox command, i get another error (something like this one: another windows
manager started, but i didnt install any window manager). And then, i can configure
~/.xinitrc but i cant find it in my home directory (in /home/val (val is my username)
and in root the same). Ok. In man xstart it is said that this file can miss, and then
i must go to /usr/.. after i configure that file and run startx nothing happens.
What is the problem? How can i deinstall x windows and start it again? Or what can i
DO??? 10x for help

I personally would wait a few days till 4.9-release comes out and go with that.

basically any is fine, the main desicion that you have to make is if you
want to install new software from source, or use the binary updates from
the ports system...

Re: Pls answer my question.

2003-10-26 Thread Brian Reichholf
to me there is no such thing as `the best version'

imho any version will do fine, you can select what you want to install
and what you don't want.
i don't know any exact numbers, but i guess you could easily achieve a
100-300 MB installation if you just installed the essential stuff (just
select the Minimal installation in sysinstall - that includes `base' and
`crypto')

And pls tell me, i am a begginer in FreeBSD and I want to study
FreeBSD, what is the best version for me? And how much HDD space do I
need for FreeBSD (4.8 release for example) (Only install, and then
with programs)?
