First, use the ports tree to update your clamav. The packages look to
be out of date.

Sure it does mirrors. See the /usr/local/share/clamav directory...

My only gripe with clamav is that there is a test in it for "iframe
exploits" which I believe is too liberal. it frequently on triggers
my nightly maillog scan summary message which identify messages
already blocked for iframe exploits... so i had to whitelist root@ in
my amavisd config to allow viruses thru.

Anyhow it has been updating for me without fail for quite some time.
Here's the latest entries from the update log.

Thank's for pointing this out! I installed it with sysinstall

It seems that the 'freshclam' util doesn't support mirror sites and the

Ok, thanks.

If you're looking for something licensed under the GPL, you might
consider using Clam Antivirus:

We've been using vexira (server version, not mail scanner version) in
conjunction with amavisd-new to scan incoming email. It will also
scan files on the disk. Not that there are any freebsd viruses, but
our peecee clients do read mail and share the disk drive.

f-prot is very well priced and has a native FreeBSD version actively
maintained. We have 2 server licenses and it works very well for us and
our customers.

Kaspersky has been working excellent for the third year in my boxes, but
it's a bit expensive, anyway if you find a key on astalavista.box.sk then
it'll be free to you ;) You will have to patch sendmail and modify its
sendmail.cnf (which is a nightmare to me), but I'm lucky to have been
working with qmail where one has to rm native qmail-queue to qmail-que and
instead of the native qmail-queue put the qmail-queue from Kavdaemon suite
(there is rich documentation in the package)
