Re: netgear nic
Hi! To clarify up a bit: Netgear manufactured the FA310, which had 4 revisions. the first two, IIRC, hat genuine digital chips on it, the last two revisions hat digital-clones on it, therefore the handling by the dc(4) driver. the Netgear Fa311 has a different chipset on it, that is driven by the sis(4) driver. BTW: the sis ist supported since 4.1.1-R HTH Olaf -- Olaf Hoyer[EMAIL PROTECTED] Fuerchterliche Erlebniss geben zu raten, ob der, welcher sie erlebt, nicht etwas Fuerchterliches ist. But the single card has worked fine. They use the sis(4) driver, but you should see this when you boot from the install CD. ___ [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

Works great. dmesg: ed1 at port 0x300-0x31f irq 11 flags 0x3 slot 1 on pccard1 ed1: address xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx, type NE2000 (16 bit) HTH, /Dorin. __ Do you Yahoo!? I think I am using two of them but I can't remember for sure and am unwilling to open my box just to find out. :) It's a standard PCI 10/100 card and they show up in my dmesg.boot file as this: dc0: <82c169 PNIC 10/100BaseTX> port 0x6100-0x61ff mem 0xf400-0xf4ff irq 10 at device 18.0 on pci0 dc1: <82c169 PNIC 10/100BaseTX> port 0x6200-0x62ff mem 0xf4001000-0xf40010ff irq 11 at device 19.0 on pci0 So they use the 'dc' driver. David Bear wrote: the NIC selection at the local store was terrible. I ended up buying a netgear FA311. I cannot tell what chipset this has.. It is the numbers VS318AG in it.. anyone used a netgear nic with fbsd 4.9? No, but I believe it should be supported by the sis(4) driver. See http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=sis&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+4.9-RELEASE&format=html for more information. To use the sis(4) driver you also need to have the miibus(4) in your kernel. It's also worth noticing, for future reference, that you could have answered this question for yourself by a simple google search. Hope that helps and good luck!
