While not an x app something to look at is cdrdao.  It is a port that allows 
you to create cds and copy them.  You will need scsi cam compiled in if you 
only have ata reader/burner.

If you define 'ripping a data cd' as 'creating an ISO image', you can
use ports/sysutils/xcdroast, which is also a nice X11 frontend to
cdrecord.

Could you please define 'rip a data cd' ?

What exactly from this command:
# dd if=/dev/acd0c of=file.iso bs=2048
doesn't fit your purpose ?

If you need an interface, what about using /usr/ports/devel/kaptain/ for
the above ?
